Could this be the best year for British music ever?

Featured Replies

IMO yes and heres why...

Prospekt - Coldplay

Unintitled followups by Franz Ferdinand, Travis, Snow Patrol, Oasis, Keane, Feeder, Gorrilaz, Arctic Monkeys and The Verve

and maybe something by U2 or Muse.

Over seas theres some stuff too such as Weezer and Greenday.

Should be a great year for music, maybe the best.

^another arctic monkeys!? really?

U2 are not British, they are Irish

But yeah it could be a very very good year for music if the albums are any good.

I don't think there will be another Gorillaz album.

I thought Damon said Demon Days was to be their final one (compilations not included)...?

Besides, Blur seem to be in talks again.

Would be awesome if they were to release an album end-2008 as well.

The 3rd album was going to be a soundtrack to a movie and I dunno about Blur, Damon and Coxon are bored of each other now.

Not to mention new albums from Doves, Blackbud, Elbow... yeah, I reckon this year could be great for music.

Here`s some facts for Keanes new album:

Title: TBC

Recorded: It`s currently being written in a barn in Sussex

Key tracks: Perfekt symmetry, Black burning heart

Released: September 2008

And a hard year on the wallet.

The best year ever, and probably for all-time happened somewhere around the mid to late 60s.

But yes, British music has been going from strength to strength for 3 or 4 years now, and finally even the mainstream in the US is taking notice now that there's some pop in the mix. So I think it will just keep getting bigger this year, and hopefully better too.

it needs to be more mainstream in the us. I'm still looking for a good radiostation that plays good music, but there is absolute shit

DOVES???? REALLY????? YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

IT's going to be a great year, but not the best...unless the Smiths record an album, which we all know isn't going to happen this side of Hell freezing over, lol.

It's also the year of the new X-Files movie!! as well as new narnia movie. So it's going to be one of the best years for music and movies of the decade for sure!

you say its not the best, but since i don't no tell me what was the better than this should be?

^ The year the "British Invasion" reached it's zenith. Changed music itself forever, and was massive worldwide. Nothing since would be the same without it. And it's classic- still sounds amazing 40 years later. edit: case and point: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42752

So I don't think anything short of a brand new and massive genre could live up to that. But this is definitely going to be a peak year. And I'm excited.

What part of NJ do you live in? Maybe you can hear WXPN/yockonxpn from Philly.

I agree with Mo. That and the early years of Brit-pop when almost everything out of Manchester was brilliant. But, like I said, this is surely the best year so far in the new Millenium. Don't forget the new REM album too.:)

no.

you wouldn't want every student in your country to listen to it.

Really I've found an awesome station, I don't know if you get it where you live, 107.1 The Peak. They play awesome stuff...today their lineup was like .. Nirvana, U2, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Radiohead, KT Tunstall, Arcade Fire (well it's not usually that good but they must have had a good DJ today).

i'm sure there is an indie channel. no idea if you can get it in the us though.

someone who's got sky will probably know what it's called.

when I had XM Radio I could listen to Radio 1...but that subscription expired. grr.

i'll se if i get it... i usually listen to 104.3 which is classic rock on fm, but i have sirius and i listen to alt nation, which plays good stuff (coldplay, muse, arctic monkeys, foo fighters etc...) and occasionaly 90's alt, which is also really good

northern new jersey, i get all of the nyc stations...

^Oh yeah you'd get The Peak then. They're more adultish though so not a lot of Arctic monkeys etc. :(

Oh Justin, I went to the store today and they didn't have the Blackbud album but I got another Travis album and the new Rolling stone (with the radiohead interview) :nice:
