Great Coldplay Performance

Featured Replies

what do you all think is his best vocal song?

SHIVER. no contest.

but i'm hoping that the songs on VLVOD blow it out of the water. i'm still hanging on the promise of chris singing low.

but i think amsterdam, GPASUYF, swallowed in the sea, and the scientist are also pretty damn good. nothing beats shiver, though.

Not just Chris(His vocals in that song are amazing) But the whole band is great,Wills drumming Guys bass and jonnys wicked riff. My fav Coldplay song at the mo.

^yes, i just think "shiver" is kick-ass in every last respect. i love all of their songs to death, and i count "see you soon" as my ultimate #1, but i think "shiver" might just be their ultimate musical work in my opinion.

still hoping we get something comparable and even better on VLVOD though. then i'll never doubt that they're going to be around for a long long time again, i think.

I think See You Soon on the live 2003 might just be the best thing ever. That part where he sings with Jonny's slide guitar solo is amazing. Not to mention the song itself & the lyrics, of course.

Shiver is way up there of course, I think its the only song where chris is basically shouting into the mic, and it sounds great. And somehow I really like his voice on Ode to Deodorant, the way he drags out his voice on parts like "Here's and Oooooode" I think are really impressive. The tone of his voice sounds different on that one too.

ooh yeah, you're right about ode! it's a similar tone to shiver, i think. it's just kind of a crappy recording so maybe it's harder to tell. even the lyrics are kind of throwaway in that song, i think it's pretty decent musically. a great "first" recording, anyway. GOD, i how i wish we could hear some more of their really early stuff! that clip of "so sad" in one of the videos got me DROOLING for more.

i particularly love the end part of ode, though, with the "would i ever let you down? no way" part, and the tinkly bit at the end that sounds like a xylophone.

but see you soon is my ultimate fave, though i alternate between liking the studio version and the live 2003 version better. the lyrics in that song...oh my god, perhaps my favorite ever. i feel like i know exactly what he's talking about even though it's not blatantly obvious. gah, it makes me want to cry every single time.

then would come "careful where you stand," but i need to stop ranting about my faves.

I think I prefer the spies from chicago 2002 to the glastonbury one. They'll virtually the EXACT same but I think jonny guitar has a better, longer lasting tone in the chicago video, whereas in the glastonbury version the notes are cut off more quickly.

This is just great. Unbelievable. Great stuff. I really hope they play Spies more often now. It just sounds so flippin amazing.

i agree with most of the songs you mentioned. Except GPASUYF. But shiver, amsterdam, swallowed... are his best in my opinion

Or worse. "Proof".

Its so bad it should really be called "POOF"

I always feel like Chris' voice was so much better then - and up until AROBTTH I guess.

I know people will go on about how much more vocal training he's had since then and all that stuff - yes, I can tell the difference I'm a musican.....- but the amount of 'sqealing' falsetto (as opposed to 'non-sqealiing' haha) and generally higher pitched vocals in the more recent stuff is sickening as times. The B-side - "The World Turned Upside Down" has some horrid moments for example....yikes.

I guess he's older now and his voice will have changed a little bit but the overall tone has seriously changed and I think it's for the worse - personally.

Thom yorke is probably my favorite male singer (for many great reasons that I wont go into now) and he never seems to grate on me - whereas chris' voice has more recently. It could be down to the songs too - as I think some of their last offerings were drivel - unfortunately..

I agree to an extent, I hate his vocals on that Kanye West song, they're really nasally. And I agree with his music teacher when she says he sounds better lower.

The only thing I'd say in his defense is that he completely wrecked his voice after Parachutes, has never really been the same.

best performance i've seen of this song, wonderful find...thanks for posting
