today show??

Featured Replies

ok, sorry for the double post, but i think this merits it.

i just got off the phone with my mom, where i mentioned that coldplay was playing the today show on june 27. that night we're both going to another concert, so i said it would be kind of insane for me to think of going to NYC (i live pretty close) that morning to see coldplay in the same day. and she was like "why would that be crazy? we can both go if you want." and i looked like this: :freak:. she said she'd LOVE to go, even though we'd have to go at like 3 in the morning, and because i'm going to see her favorite band with her that night, it's only fair that she'd come to see my favorite band with me that morning. besides, she really likes coldplay as well, so it's not like she'd be bored or anything.

*explodes*

i think i'm really really going to try and go to this now! just for the hell of it. i think it's somewhat lame that they're doing the today show as well, but if they're in my neck of the woods and i've got someone to go with, why wouldn't i want to go?

^ I agree, do it. Even if it means getting there at 3am for only like 3 songs, I still think you should go just for the hell of it. Life is short, you might as well enjoy it while you can. And it's awesome that your mum might be going with you as well! Do we know when the tickets go on sale?

i'm almost 100% positive that going to the today show is free and a first come first serve thing. so as long as you get there way early and get a good spot, you're good to go. i plan to go early enough to get in the absolute front!

i'll research the finer points later, though, when i don't have a paper to write.

When I was in NYC last summer, the Today show was indeed free as well as "first come first served"

However, be aware that the single song you see acts play on TV is usually the entire performance. Due to other Television segments going on with the show after the band performs. the show does not allow bands to play additional songs after their one song segment is over. (There are of course ocasional exceptions, usually when the music segment is the outro to the show itself)

Just wanted to let you guys know as there's been talk on here of 3-4 songs etc. It will most likely be a perormance of only one song (my guess would be whatever ends up as the first single from VLVOD)

PS. You do indeed have to get there really early as in 3 or 4 a.m. to get a decent spot especially during peak tourist seasons like summer.

that's dumb that they don't let them do more than one song! i can understand that they don't have time for more than like 2 or 3, but that's kind of lame, just one song.

whatever. i still think i'm going to try to go because besides getting up early, i might as well! two concerts in one day (even though one is a mini concert) is pretty cool.

I think it;s mostly due to ambient sound (usually quite loud) from the concert area disrupting other segments of the show that air in the courtyard.

Also, they want people to be visible in the other segments (even if just seen screaming outside the studio windows), so the last thing they want os for people to be paying attention to something else!:laugh3:

It's (kind of) fun to go though, often, the bands will work the crowd a bit after their set (not sure if that word applies to a single song performance...), and the today show people give away free stuff to get the crowd worked up for the cameras.

EDIT: I had a new thought, I've heard from others that when they're using the other stage further away from the actual today show studios the bands play longer, but both times I went to the Today show, they didn't use this, so I don't know anything for sure. (I'm not even sure if the alternate staging is a regular thing or if it was a one off used for a special reason.)

EDIT of the EDIT: Infinite, I see on your blog that you intend to study film. Super cool! I am also a film major at at Uni here in Illinois. (though a bit ahead of you as this is my 5th year ending this may-Finally done YEA!) Now I just have to find something to do with the next 50 odd years of my life...

Fakfak? So you don't like speculation? :shocked2:

I agree about bands playing the Today show, I've never been impressed with any performance on there. Angie and Mary are right, we might as well expect a lone performance with Chris. I bet Guy is loathing the booking of this gig.

Speculation I don't mind at all.

What I don't like are when people Insist their speculation is fact, and then proceed to act pissy when whatever they thought turns out to not be true, even though in most cases they pulled that "truth" out of their ass and repeated it until they (and others) believed it to be fact.

In short, I just want speculation to be labeled (and treated) as speculation, as opposed to fact.

As for appearing on Today, I do feel it's kind of lame, but it is considered a prestegious thing to be booked on the show. Though, it kind of defeats the whole point of being a multi-millionaire rockstar if you have to be awake before noon...

'Hype', ain't it the darnest thing?

As long as we fans are talking about it, then the record label and promoter's jobs are easier. So in short, it's just the way things go. You should be like me and avoid reading the response to these leaking 'facts'.

And back to the Today show.... even the interviews are pointless. I hate all live television interviews, it puts stress on both parties! The interviewer has to keep the flow and the interview-ee has to seem enthralled to answer the questions. All while keeping to a commercial break time limit and letting down the viewers tuning in.

Fair enough.

As I said in an earlier post though, my rant was provoked by the comments of a few specific people (None of whom actually post on this thread), who took things to far and elevated speculation to include attacks on anyone who suggested their view were, in fact, mere speculation. I merely ended up posting it here due to lack of a better place to post it, even though noone here deserved to be on the recieving end of my harsh words.

I would take issue though with your claim that such hype "makes the record company's job easier". In fact it is often the exact opposite. If a large number of people are overly wedded to false information, it makes it much harder for them to get the correct information out there

Also, IMHO as this site is now quite well known as a source of Coldplay information (linking to other sites etc.) it is visited by a large number of people who, while not being members or regular visitors, have come to the site to find out about the forthcoming LP. If they see rumors presented as fact, they may well spread elsewhere. This, again IMHO, is not a good thing...

if this show is going to be really great then even i'll try to get tickets or whatever to go as well!

because i really want to see Chris like anything!

You don't need a ticket to go, you just have to show up early enough to get a spot.

getting there at 2/3 am is WORTH it just to see coldplay front row, at least once in my life... even if it is just for one song. im seriously thinking about just having a late dinner in the city the night before and staying there all night.

how early is everyone planning on getting there? we should all meet up!

I want to go, but have no one to go with. :(

Are people meeting up? That would be great, as I don't really want to hang around the city for several hours in the middle of the night by myself.

lol yeah thats probably not the best idea

Haha, I live in NY actually, Long Island to be specific. It's only about an hour's train ride into the city from my town. You can PM if you want with the details when you figure them out. :)

Oh and that probably is the best idea... having a late dinner and then waiting overnight. We might get a little creeped out hanging out on the street overnight, but we would probably be pretty close to the front and also not have to take a train in at a weirdly early hour in the morning.

idk WHY i thought you lived in jersey lol

i'll def let you know what im doing when i figure it out

YES!

I'm staying in Times Square with all my friends the night before after prom.

I don't plan on sleeping that night so I'll definitely go straight to the show - probably cranky and tired - but I'll be there!

Second time seeing coldplay that week mwahahahahaha
