I am so happy tonight. Congrats to the Bruins for putting up a good fight. Definitely gave us all a scare here.

I was really glad that Price got the shutout. As soon as Montreal lost Game 6 (well even game 5) all these Oilers, Sens, and Leafs fans started talking shit to me saying that Price had lost his confidence and just making fun of me and stuff. So its glad to have the last laugh now. They can all just shut up and continue to be jealous that Montreal is still in the playoffs while their teams are golfing.

And huge game tomorrow! It would be so awesome if the Flames won.

tooooo bad! im just proud they forced a game 7 and turned everyones heads in boston. i was a little upset about that montreal goal with like 7 seconds left though i thought that was really unnecesarry.

^ I liked that goal :P Since I took Sergei in my hockey pool and after last night I'm out of last place for the first time all playoffs. :P

I was so impressed with Boston! They really put up a great fight, and their fans should be proud!!

As for the riot, yeah, I was disgusted by that. And it's only round 1. What are they going to do if they win the Cup? Burn down Montreal...again??

  • Author

Well probably all of Canada.

I love how so many people are now just assuming that Montreal fans are classless. This was garbage started by a few people who had too much to drink and have no respect for other's property.

As a whole I don't think you can get a building of 21 000 people and have it sound like it did their in the Bell Centre last night.

I know many Habs fans who are ashamed of the behaviour of a few idiots, and it would be very unfair to classify them all, I agree.

I remember a few years ago seeing Ottawa lose to Jersey in the conference final, and the Sens fans carried a couple of Devils fans out of the Corel Centre on their shoulders...and not to beat them up in some alley, lol. That was pure class!

If anyone had a reason to riot, it's us leafers, and you'd never see that kind of crap in Toronto, win or lose.:)

1-1 after 1.......Go Flames!

And what was up with the saxophone for the anthem? That was the most pathetic rendition I have ever seen, it sounded horrible, and the fans sounded like a couple 16 year old boys who are afraid to sing in church.

2-1!!!!!!

Agreed about the anthem. I could have done better,lol...MUCH better!

Hold in there boys.

That goal made me squee!:D:D:D:D:D

EDIT: Fuck! What's the opposite of 'squee'?

peeeeee.....

Man this is turning into a blow out.....CuJo over Kipper? Give me a break Keanen.

I.don't.want.to.talk.about.it. *cringes*

Sadly, Kipper was letting in the goals. He's the better goalie by far, but he just had a rotten period.

I've seen the leafs come back from this kind of deficit, but it'll be tough.

Tracie, you gotta let go of those Leafs :P

Obviously I'm sad to see Calgary go BUT I am so excited Montreal is still in it! Which makes the Flames loss much more manageable.

If the Flames were the only Canadian team in, I'd be really unhappy right now, but all my hopes are on Montreal. Philly's going to be really tough to beat though.

  • Author

They did beat hem 4 times this year. Briere worries me though. 100% he will be getting alot of boos. The asshole signed with Philly instead of Montreal in the off-season. We haven't let go of that one yet, but stopping him would feel nice.

I would much rather play the Flyers than the Rangers.

Boston couldn't buy a win against Montreal during the regular season IIRC, and they gave them one hell of a playoff run, so you can't always tell by regular season stats. But yeah, the odds agains Philly are better than against NY.

A NY/Montreal round 3 makes me VERY nervous!

  • Author

The problem with Montreal against Boston was they got off their game. They play an up tempo game while Boston plays a super boring suffocating defensive game that would put insomniacs to sleep.

Once Montreal was able to get Boston to play the Habs run and gun game, thats when the Habs really excelled.

So I imagine that Philly will look at Boston's tapes, especially their PK when they face the Habs. But I think Philly is too inconsistent, and will play the run and gun game as well which will favour the Habs.

THey'll try to beat them at their own game instead of trying a different style against them. Makes sense to me. I would jump for joy to see Philly gone! Love the city...hate the team!

Yeah, I mean I totally think its great that they went from being last (or near last) last season but made the playoffs this year. Their GM made some really great moves, especially getting Marty Biron for only a second rounder, that helped turn the team around.

But yet how can we forget Steve Downie's antics in the pre-season, or Randy Jones hit from behind on Patrice Bergeron that ended his season, or the Jessie Boulrece hit on Kesler that resulted in a 25 game suspension?

I don't think they are purposely head hunting, but still it is strange to see so many violent incidents from one team in one season.

Anywho it is 3 am, and i should go to bed. I'm only up because i got to talk to my best friend who is in Ecaudor until June.

Have a good sleep...dream of having the Cup in Montreal!!!

Philly had way too many violent incidents this year...it was quite the ongoing news story. Here's hoping they don't injure any Habs in this round!

13th place in The Hockey News pool (out of alot of people). Not bad. :glasses2:

Playoff Journal Part II

The results of round one were very close to what I predicted for round 1. The only series being off was the Anaheim vs Dallas series where the defending Cup champs bowed out early. The Bruins put up more of a bunch then I expected, and predicting Ottawa would even win a game against Pittsburgh was generous.

1. Montreal vs. 8. Boston

Prediction: Montreal in 5

Actual: Montreal in 7

2. Pittsburgh vs. 7. Ottawa

Prediction: Pittsburgh in 6

Actual: Pittsburgh in 4

3. Washington vs. 6. Philadelphia

Prediction:Philadelphia in 7

Actual: Philadelphia in 7

4. New Jersey vs. 5. New York

Prediction: New York in 5

Actual: New York in 5

1. Detroit vs. Nashville

Prediction: Detroit in 5

Actual: Detroit in 6

2. San Jose vs. 7. Calgary

Prediction: San Jose in 7

Actual: San Jose in 7

3. Minnesota vs. 6. Colorado

Prediction: Colorado in 7

Actual: Colorado in 6

4. Anaheim vs. 5. Dallas

Prediction: Anaheim in 7

Actual: Dallas in 6

Round 2 Predictions:

East

1. Montreal vs. 6. Philadelphia

Montreal certainly had a scare when the team they dominated all season ended up making it a series and forcing a game 7. Price let in 4 goals in the 3rd periods of game 5 and 6 and many questioned his confidence. But a stellar shutout performance in game 7 put those questions to rest. Philadelphia on the other hand were in the middle of a wild back and forth series that they ultimately won in overtime in game 7. Both teams rely on exciting players like Kovalev and Briere to score big goals, and this should be a back and forth series. Briere will most definitely get the Chara treatment (booed every time he touches the puck) after choosing to sign in Philly instead of Montreal. Being the biased Habs fan I am my prediction...

Prediction: Montreal in six

2. Pittsburgh vs. 5. New York

Sean Avery, meet George Laraque. Unlike the Devils, Avery will not be able to knock the Penguins off their game. However the dominating Rangers will make this series a close one. Gomez came up huge haunting his former team. And just when everyone thought Jagr had lost interest in the NHL, here he is leading the team in points. Pittsburgh will be well rested which is good news for Crosby who was banged up coming into the series, but often times along layoff means a rough game one. This will be a close series, but once again Hossa, Malkin, and Crosby just to name a few will be too much to handle.

Prediction: Pittsburgh in seven

West

1. Detroit vs. 6. Colorado

Sakic, Forsberg, Foote, Osgood, Lidstrom, Draper, McCarthy, sorry I'm getting a little nostalgic here. One of the greatest playoff rivalries of the past decade enters another chapter featuring some of the old warriors from past Cup winners. It should be a good series, but once again I think the Wings will come out on top. Osgood stepped it up big time replacing Hasek for the final few games. Detroit's defense is superior to Colorado's, and up front Detroit has more depth and experience. Colorado may have an edge in goal with Theodore returning to his MVP form, but it won't be enough.

Prediction: Detroit in seven

2. San Jose vs. 5 . Dallas

Calgary certainly gave the Sharks a scare in the first round, but period 2 of game 7 is when San Jose showed why they finished second in the league. Dallas handled the Ducks with ease much to my surprise, but I don't think San Jose will be such an easy foe. Both teams feature great goaltenders who have a lot to prove in the playoffs. Joe Thornton also has critics to prove wrong, and a few huge goals in Calgary are starting to show he can be a dominating player in the playoffs. Another close series but in the end San Jose just has too much to handle.

Prediction: San Jose in six

I'm rooting for a Montreal/Colorado final.

Probably won't happen, but that's what I want.
