fakfak
I'm trying to work out a tuning for The Scientist (electric part.) Is it the same as the tuning for GPASUYF (dropped A I think, it seems different at different gigs)?
PianoRocker
You don't need to tune the Guitar for The Scientist.. Jonny does it I think.. but I play the electric part in standard tuning..
Tnspieler1012
I'd give you the tuning from the book if I knew where it was, it's not the same as chris's tuning in GPASUYF. I know it's capo 1, I've tried it out myself and it sounds exactly like the album version.
fakfak
If you happen to find it, please do post it (or PM me):D Also if you (or anyone happens to have any of the following, I would be thankful to have them: Jon's GPASUYF tuning Jon's Warning Sign tuning All the tabs I can find for these give the tunings for acoustic parts, and those are really of no use to me:dozey:
Tnspieler1012
I don't know about warning sign, but I know that jonny's tuning is standard in GPASUYF (but Chris's tuning is so funky I've lost two guitar strings getting there). As for the scientist, give EADEAe a try (capo 1st)
fakfak
Thanks, I just tried that one and it sounds correct...:D
PianoRocker
I don't have a capo so can't try that.. :( well can try to tune it to the notes as with capo...
fakfak
You should be fine without a capo.
xsarehardcorex
I'm fairly certain that Warning Sign is tuned about 1/4 step up from standard.
fakfak
I've been playing it tuned to E Flat and it sounds fairly close (though not exactly right), though I'm sure part of that is that the effects are also off.
Tnspieler1012
In this video jonny's guitar is capo 2 like Chris, so I would guess he has standard tuning also.
Bonus_mosher
Okay, so I have the official tab book for all three albums, and though I don't have a scanner, I'll write out the tuning and the tabs for jonny's part at the end. :) feel free to leave me thanks. Sorry about the amount of dashes, apparently the board doesn't recognise a space followed by another space. it's still very readable though :D The acoustic guitar in the second verse and chorus is tuned like so. c B G D A E and plays the chords: * T = Use your thumb for the note on the Low E. fakfak
:DThat helps a great deal!:D I thought is was the same as Warning sign, but everybody told me no... I guess I should learn to trust my own judgement in the future!
Bonus_mosher
:) it is the same tuning as warning sign though when chris plays warning sign live, he plays it differently in standard tuning - just because it saves on using an extra guitar. on the album it's played in that tuning though :)
Tnspieler1012
that scientist tab is just about perfect. right out of the book. If anyone asks for the tab in the future, just redirect them to this thread.
fakfak
Chris does use a capo when played live. (at least he did on Twisted Logic shows, though I don't think they played warning sign much on the AROBTTH tour.) 2nd fret as near as I can tell from the video clips I've seen. Bonus_mosher
If you guys want me to tab out anything from AROBTTH or X&Y let me know, I have hours of spare time in the middle of the night when I never sleep haha. and to be honest, I enjoy doing it to help other coldplayers :] I've left my parachutes book somewhere at home (I'm at uni atm) but I'm happy to do any other songs with all guitar parts if you want? Let me know :) if lots of people want them I'll make my own thread, but lets not get ahead of ourselves :laugh3: Also FAKFAK - you're totally right, it's best to watch on the glastonbury performance, or the japanese acoustic session for how he plays Warning Sign live, capo 2. :)
fakfak
Can you Clarify one thing for me? The Warning Sign tuning you gave was for Jon's part, right? the way you phrased it, you could be talking about Chris' part, which I have no interest in thanks again...:D EDIT: can you tab out Trouble (that is, if it's not too much trouble...Sorry had to go there!) Bonus_mosher
I just double checked. I was talking about Chris' part. Jon's guitar parts are all in standard tuning on this one. granted he only really plays the hammer on and pull off's on the intro the second verse. he doesn't really do alot on this one. Sorry about the confusion lol.
fakfak
He does use a capo though, correct? (hard to tell as most of the available clips focus on Chris.)
Bonus_mosher
No capo on either parts on the record. Chris plays his rhythm part differently live, hence the capo on live performances but the lead section plays the same. it's: h = Hammer on / p = Pull off. I believe he uses some sort of delay effect on it :) e- B--7h-9p-7h-9p-7h-9- G------------------------8h-9p-8h-9p-8h-9p-8h-9p-8h-9 D- A- E-
fakfak
I just looked at the Glastonbury 2005 video again. Jon IS using a capo on what looks to be the 2nd fret. (that part is a little unclear) As I said before, E flat tuning seems to be the closest I can get to his sound on this song, but is still off in some way. I'm sure there's something abnormal about the tuning Jon uses for this song live.
Tnspieler1012
I've been waiting a long time for somebody above me to take a crack at jonny's part during the chorus. You can just barely hear it in the album version, but it makes the song live.
fakfak
Agreed. The song is almost completely different sounding (better IMHO) Live, and it's because of that part...
PianoRocker
For Warning Sign: If you see the acoustic sessions, both (chris and jonny) are using Capo 2th. Then play the chords that are the same as C with the E string played: This way of chords: e ---|---|---|---|---| B ---|-x-|---|---|---| G ---|---|---|---|---| D ---|---|-x-|---|---| A ---|---|---|-x-|---| E ---|---|---|-x-|---| You can play 2 ways: Without capo: frets: 5(intro) - (verse)10 - 5 - 12 -7 With capo: frets: 3(intro) - (verse)8 - 3 - 10 - 5 Jonnys part: Without capo: e --------------------------------| B --------------------------------| G 9h119h119h116h7h6h7h6h7h6h7h6h7-| h = hammer-on D --------------------------------| A --------------------------------| E --------------------------------| With Capo: e --------------------------------| B --------------------------------| G 7h9h7h9h7h9h4h5h4h5h4h5h4h5h4h5-| h = hammer-on D --------------------------------| A --------------------------------| E --------------------------------|
