Endings of newly released songs

Featured Replies

IMO, viva la vida is a fantastic song, violet hill is ok, and ASARY is just bad... but anyways, anyone miss the big endings that parachutes, AROBTTH, and X&Y had? i mean, the ending of songs like fix you, politik, everythings not lost straight up gave me goosebumps, anyone think there will be some like that on VLV?

There may not be for the simple reason that Coldplay use a certain type of ending on a lot of songs, and Eno tried to get them to break their mold. Hare to say. But I hope there are a couple. (I lvoe the way VH ends.)

Viva La Vida builds to a satisfying ending I think. But I remember reading somewhere that the band would often be avoiding typical song structures (something about conventional song structures "breaking down"), which probably means their won't be many "typical" Coldplay songs on the album.

that hurts.... i love me a good coldplay finale

Dunno. But the songs from Viva La Vida have given me a new respect for this band. Best shit I've heard from them so far.

i think its just that i miss the instrumentals from their earlier songs from the first 2 albums. X&Y went down the "synthetic" music path, and it seems VLV is doing the same... though i should have expected that with Eno on board. Damn it Eno.....

Life in Technicolor has a very climactic, satisfying ending, I think.

Ah yes, definitely. I can't wait to hear what the album version sounds like.

Either way, this album is shaping up to be a contender for my favourite Coldplay album (the current one being AROBTTH). All the songs I've heard so far are very promising in my opinion.

AROBTTH is my favorite too, and I didn't think they could top it this soon...maybe later in their career as they continue to grow musically. But I may have been wrong. This album is in high contention already.

^Definitely, I mean the fact that they managed to pull off an instrumental so beautifully, the fact that the lyrics in Viva La Viva is arguably better than any heard on X&Y, and the grittiness of Violet Hill, is all proof that they are really growing musically RIGHT NOW. And they're finally picking up where they left off with AROBTTH, which I'm delighted with. I just hope the rest of the tracks (and especially 42) meet my high expectations.

PS: LET IT LEAK! :P

I pretty much agree with everyone here (hey, I'm Canadian. What did you expect?!)

The big endings are VERY Coldplay, and they seemed to be something that Coldplay would do for all their songs, because, well, the truth is that they existed on all their albums.

Fix You has, in my opinions, one of the greatest endings to any song. Ever. And no. That's not up for debate.

Viva La Vida, at first glance, seems to have moved away from that. AT FIRST GLANCE.

The truth is, for me anyways, that those Coldplay endings gave you a certain feeling. They elicited certain emotions and a...I don't know...reaction.

Though, none of the songs RELEASED (cuz we have to remember that we dont have all the songs yet. not even nearly all of them, considering all the extras we are going to get with the non-Viva La Vida CD), have them, I still feel get a similar FEELING.

The ending of Viva is pretty huge. Violet Hill has one that reminds me a LOT of A Rush of Blood to the Head songs. Like Warning Sign.

And Life in Technicolor is just one of the greatest things I have heard from Coldplay, hands down. Again, with a special ending.

So maybe the endings might, SO FAR, not be has audibly huge, they do still pack an emotional punch, which was the point.

viva coldplay.

you hit it right on the head. the songs from the first two albums with the amazing endings left you feeling in a way youd never felt before. undescribable. none of these songs released have come close to it yet, but im keeping my fingers crossed for the rest.

Not ignoring you, Hyphin. (I'm Canadian too, so I have to appologize for everything, lol.)

I honestly didn't expect to see this type of growth from them till later on...LP 6 or 7. And as much as I still like X&Y, I think being 'big' went to their heads when they ere working on it. I'm glad they kicked out the record company suits and went back to the start.

even though their experimentation with song structure is already evident, particularly on VH, i think the ending of VH is reminiscent of endings like that of square one (more so the live version, which i usually hear with a piano rather than guitar).. so "coldplay endings" havent been abandoned entirely. hopefully we'll get some "home, home, where i wanted to go"-type climaxes...

I think the big, punch-it-up endings are typical of the "anthemic" songs that the band claimed they were trying to get away from. I've only listened to Violet Hill, and the ending is my favorite part of the song. I don't believe an anthemic ending would have made it better.

It gave me chills when I realized that they changed the lyrics of the last chorus to "Why'd you let me go?" The subtle time signature twists in the piano-only section also do a lot for me. As I see it, they've handled at least one ending very well.

Well, after all, they are under the direction of Brian Eno, and you don't have to be a huge fan of his like I am to know that he has never really had an orthodox way of doing things musically.

The ending of Clocks is absolutely amazing... I love it when Jonny uses his guitar to create a sort of 'dialogue" with Chris's voice. It's almost like Chris is talking to the guitar and the guitar responds. He should do this type of thing more often.

i think 42 has a chance for a huge ending, they put so much emphasis on how its 3 different parts, maybe the 3rd part will be INCREDIBLE.

Ending of Cemeteries of London might be cool Im guessing:confused:

Coldplay have always done their part in making incredible endings to songs. Fix You, Clocks, Politik, GPASUYF etc which just makes you wish the song never ends. I hope the continue with that rhythm

politik has the best ending of any song ever made....just wanted to lay that out there

I couldn't agree more with that. I feel also the same way with Violet Hill. It definitely reminds me of something a Rush of Blood to the Head would have. Life in Techni is AWESOME. Not the GREATEST GREATEST but it's definitely on my top favorites.

I like first of all ending of Fix you...when they're singing " tears stream down your face"

and then ending of " evertyhing's not lost""politiks""green eyes""rush of blood to the head""amsterdam""square one(very good)""white shadows""low"....

wholeheartedly agree. have you seen the toronto dvd version of clocks where they do the buildup/countdown at the end? I know they do this alot when they play it live, but in that particular version johnny does this incredible thing on the guiter, particularly in the last 2 seconds of the buildup, that sounds increadible. i love they way their songs sound so much more explosive live, which is why i got excited when that guy who claimed to have heard VH first (and turns out he did!) said that johnny will be going harder on the guitar than he ever has before in the studio...
