  1. i think it's also important to note how quickly the beatles achieved so much... (aside from their solo efforts) if i'm not mistaken, they were only a band for 10 years max... so even if it were possible for there to be a beatles of our generation (and i'm not so sure that it is), coldplay have already reached the 10-year mark... but i agree with many of the above comments... coldplay are operating in a completely different world to the 1960s... as interesting as any comparison might be, now or 10 years from now, it's certainly never going to be an 'all else equal' comparison...
  2. Thanks for that. Made my day...
  3. yup.. encore for sure. also cemetaries of london better be on the sydney setlist!
  4. chinese sleep chant today (but SS is my favourite from the album)
  5. I hope DAAHF is only missing from these setlists because they are saving it for the proper tour...
  6. in case it hasn't already been said, i personally think most, if not all, of coldplay's songs are underrated. maybe not on this forum, but just generally. before VLV was released, the vast majority of people would never have heard of a coldplay song other than fix you or yelow (though even those two are imo too brilliant to ever be called overrated). not that it bothers me since i tend to like things less when everyone else starts to like them... hope that nnnever happens to coldplay
  7. Glad to know my second favourite band in the world is a fan of my favourite band in the world... can't wait to see the kooks in august!!
  8. from memory, i think they said that the Dragon Ash cover is a parody of Delacroix's painting, hence the similarity in the pictures. I can't remember what they said about the titles though
  9. Chris said in an interview recently that if you listen carefully you can hear eno complaining about the tempo... i'm surprised they didn't edit that out.. makes me wonder if it's deliberate attempt to make it sound informal and personal with all the counting in songs and eno's commentary.. almost as if to further depart from the whole X&Y "big band" and "overproduced" (or so they say) image which may have distanced them from fans (not that i necessarily agree with that view.. i love X&Y). I love this song too.. just heard it today for the first time when i bought the album (i waited..) and it's easily one of my favourites, not only because it's a fantastic song, but also because it's one of the very few songs on the album that retains the romantic quality of old coldplay. not that it sounds anything like it, but it reminds me of SITS.. same kind of feeling i get when i listen to it.
  10. ok i let myself listen to lost! because between the acoustic version and that interview, i pretty much knew the song back to front anyway... upon first listen i didn't think it had anything on the acoustic... the vocals didn't sound as passionate at times (almost slightly rushed), very little piano - mainly organ, it sounds very different to old coldplay, and the beat iskinda rnb-ish. but after listening a couple more times, i've decided to put aside any preconceptions of what new coldplay should sound like, and the more i listen to the album version, the more its growing on me. i love the backing vocals at the end.. wish they continued over the organ as it fades out... i can just imagine it live.. that organ conclusion was almost made for the crowd to cheer over after the final beat drops... in fact it would've been awsome if the chorus was repeated over the organ at the end so that we could sing it at concerts, much like the end of Fix You... having said all that, i think it was wise to introduce the song to us via the acoustic so that we could find some familiar territory in it, rather than instantly dislike it for not being 'coldplay' enough - whatever that even means in this period of experimentation! i'm really glad to read that the album has surpassed most of your expectations.. can't wait to feel the same joy in just over a week. until then i'll just flog lost! for all it's got...
  11. I'm with you! I want the excitement of listening to the actual cd... But i'm gonna have it on my hard drive just incase i change my mind...
  12. you guys think you're being optimistic... i've got my fingers crossed that the 'huge global reach' announcement is gonna be that they are gonna fly us all overseas for the concert... btw did I miss that announcement or was it just never made?
  13. this song is a breath of fresh air. i agree it's very parachutes, but taken to new level of incredibleness
  14. poor attempt at humour. at least the last mock review was funny at some points...
  15. the poor guy is nervous as hell. but you can tell in his face that he's glad to be back on the road, especially after he asks his standard question "everybody okay?" and the crowd reacts. i can't wait to see them live
  16. thanks Coldplay92.. i don't think we get NME in Australia so it's unfamiliar territory for me...
  17. Thanks for that! Though i think i've read enough ridiculous Coldplay/U2 comparisons this week to last me a lifetime... Am i reading it correctly? Does it say download 'Death and all his friends' at the end of the article? Meant to say VLV, right?
  18. it's just a writer desperate for attention, and who better to start a debate with than Coldplay fans 2 weeks before a new album release? i wouldn't bother giving them the satisfaction of a response guys... they probably don't even believe half the crap in that article.. they just want to piss us off so we visit their website
  19. i hate to point it out semy but that's preeety much all they've done on the album cover too.:P i do think it was painted on nicely though...
  20. bresc replied to Knotty's topic in Coldplay
Hey Malcolm (or anyone else who might know).. I'm not overly familiar with U2's catalogue apart from their big singles so excuse my ignorance but is the song that starts @ 5:17 on this video from the upcoming U2 album?
  21. thanks andrew. the loose comparison doesn't surprise since they call violet hill a lennon song aswell. and for the record, a message is the biggest song off X&Y for some fans ;)
  22. Incase you were wondering, Chris said (at a gig at Abbey Road) that SITS is Coldplay's best ballod apart from the Scientist. I happen to agree, although i'd probably put it first.
  23. very lucky man... though i'm sorry to hear from a number of sources now that 42 is overrated. andrew, do you know what they mean by 42 nods at Lennon's 'imagine'? does the piano riff resemble that of imagine at all? also, does the clip of LIJ from grey's give an accurate impression of what the song is actually like, by which i mean (i) are there any major parts missing from it (e.g. whole verses) and (ii) it seems to cut to different parts very abruptly - is that how the song is or is that just amateurish editing?
  24. i was thinking exactly the same thing. but locust said so, and he's never let us down before, so i'm reluctant to question it i think what's throwing me off about this song, apart from the poor quality (through no fault of those who recorded it, to whom i'm grateful for their ingenious effort of removing most traces of grey's from it), is the way it has been choped and changed to suit the scene in the show. i'm sure it will sound 1000000x better on the album.
