There are ticketmaster presales!!

Featured Replies

I'm confused. Why is there a pre-sale on Ticketmaster but not Livenation? Livenation still has 3/16 as ticket sale date. What a shame best buy shoppers get first dibs over us. I just signed on to the rewards thing but apparently you had to have been a member prior to 5/1.

Of course Coldplay has a say! They might not know about the Best Buy thing but the management do and they take orders from the band. The BestBuy promotion won't appeal to a younger demographic-you have to be over 18 to have a account! And BestBuy is not a store with a young demographic-their demographic is middle class, suburban males who buy big screen TVs, bib ticket items. Just go in your local Best Buy and you see who they cater for. As for CDs, well they stock a very mainstream selection that is typically $15-you get a better, cheaper selection at Wall-Mart and Target. If this is the fan base who coldplay values more then I am not sure I want to see them anymore.

I think you make a good point. It could also appeal to people 18 and over. Coldplay does appeal to an older demographic.

To put this in perspective...radiohead US Tour tickets started at $39 to $75. Tickets went on sale to WASTE/Radiohead fans first, then commercial pre-sale then general sale. I got four best price tixs($75) for Hollywood Bowl for $315 from WASTE. The same top price tix will cost over $500 for coldplay with ticketmaster.

There is an addage that if you look after your fans they will always stay your fans through thick and thin. I think coldplay have made some odd decisions lately over ticket prices etc...i remember the complaints when they played South America and ticket prices were what the average person earned in a month. Some of the things coldplay do suggest they care more about the corporate/sponsors than the fans.

I don't know if we are getting a bit off topic, but the mention of ticket prices in the pre-sale turned into discussion about promotions and ticket prices.

However, a quote here from an article suggests prices aren't going to be too bad.

Ticket prices are still being determined, but a three-tiered pricing strategy is likely, with prices roughly in the $50, $65 and $85 range. "You're not going to see us coming out with $125-$150 tickets," Holmes says.

That seems about right. I think there should be plenty of tickets available unless I missed something.

Well, several of the shows on Ticketmaster have a top price of $95 and $97, and that's for just the base ticket price.

Once you add in all the extra convenience, facility, and handling fees, etc associated with it, they truly ARE approaching the $125 range.

Holmes makes it sound like seeing Coldplay is a bargain. It isn't.

I don't mind paying big money to see a well established artist, like Paul McCartney, who's been playing for 40 years.

But Coldplay, as much as I like them, are too "new" to be pushing the $100 price barrier.

Here's what it says in my reward zone email-

Coldplay Live in Concert

Coldplay is one of the world's most popular rock bands, renowned for their unforgettable live performances.

As a special perk to Reward Zone® program members, you have a chance to get a Presale Ticket Code for a Coldplay show of your choice. We've secured a limited number of tickets - all great seats - just for members! Act now to take advantage of this great opportunity

Here's how this two-step process works:

Get a Presale Code. Your Presale Code lets you try for two tickets (available while supplies last) on the ticket company website during the presale period. Get your Code by clicking the Continue button below.

Please note:

To be eligible, you must be 18 or older and a Reward Zone program member as of May 1, 2008.

A limited number of Codes will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each member can get only one Code for the 2008 Coldplay tour.

This Code can be used to try to purchase a maximum of two tickets for the concert date that you specify. If tickets are not available for the date you specified, you may use your Code to try for tickets for another date.

Receipt of a Code does not guarantee that you will be able to buy tickets during the presale period. It simply gives you the opportunity to attempt to purchase two presale tickets.

Check back often - the concert calendar will be updated with new concerts as they become available.

If your Code request is successful, a confirmation page will appear that shows your Code. Be sure to print this confirmation page.

Use your Presale Code to attempt to purchase up to two tickets. During the presale period, visit the ticket company website and try for your presale tickets. You'll need to set up an account with the ticket company, if you do not have one already.

Just to clarify, these presale seats are good seats? Like floor, first few row seats?

Also, does this Bestbuy thing apply to Canada as well? I guess it would be too late to sign up for a membership now, but I checked bestbuy.ca and didn't see the same offer listed with the album.

Does that mean that this only applies to American rewards members? This just keeps getting worse.

I think someone in another thread said they got floor tix. I checked out the section and it was like probly in row 10-15 where he got his seats. So...not too bad. He didnt say what time he got the tix, but if it was right at 10am, maybe they're not THAT great of seats. He possibly got tickets later today, but he didn't say. The last time I did a presale for the Talk Tour with coldplay's website i got 3rd row so.....maybe the first couple rows will still be up for grabs on saturday.

i am a huge coldplay fan (duh haha) and i happen to be a best buy reward zone member and i have been for years. so for me this is working out perfectly. but i understand where everyone is coming from. i am actually going into work late tomorrow so i can stay home to get presale tickets when they go on sale. im sure any other coldplay fan as nuts as me would do the same. and even though the presale is not through coldplay.com i would rather is so i KNOW im up against true coldplay fans.

and on another note- i went to stubhub.com and would also like to know where they get off charging 400+ for tickets? they can go screw!

Well isn't that great?! Best Buy Reward Zone members?! Coldplay should just go independent like Radiohead. So the site, coldplay.com will not be giving out pre-sale passwords to the fans at all?!

Like someone else asked, does this apply to Canada as well? Also if anyone is planning on going to the Toronto's show...there's no info about it on ticketmaster...is it because that it's too early (which doesn't make sense since most are going on sale on the 14th) or is it that Ticketmaster is not selling tickets to Toronto's show? Can anyone clarify this for me, please?

Thanks!

I see. Thanks for clarifying. I'm not quite as crazy about Coldplay as I was a few years ago and it also doesn't help that I'm not working right now as far as expenses are concerned. However, regardless of my circumstances, that is a bit much for tickets I think. I know they are popular, but X&Y wasn't THAT great of an album and Violet Hill does not impress me a great deal, either. I'll see though. I really don't know if I could see myself paying that much unless they were great seats.

I just emailed bestbuy.ca and asked if they were also offering the exclusive Coldplay tickets offer. They replied back saying that was only in the states.

I'm emailing again to ask if this offer in Canada may come up in the near future, since Canadian tour dates start a little later...but this is just really unfair.

Apparently even Linkin Park was around $120 here at Rod Laver.

I don't really like buying tickets for Rod Laver, as they are the most expensive. But I hope to God they aren't THAT expensive.

So BestBuy is US only? Thank gawwwd... I was gonna sign up but wasn't sure... still a bit unfair for you guys.

Well you would have had to sign up by may 1st anyway.

Im Guessing

I'm gonna say these presale tickets are not going to be the best tickets available. I'm gonna hold out till Saturday and get my tickets when they go on sale. I'm guessing that best buy bought a certain section of tickets but i would be surprised if they ended up being the best tickets available.

the trouble with holding out is that they are expecting a fast sell-out for general sale....this is why the scalped tickets are so high in price! my advice would be take what you can get now and try to get better on sat. if you do get better you can always sell them on here at face value-that is what i am going to do anyway...at least this way you guarantee yourself a ticket

I was on right at 10 am yesterday, and managed to only get tickets in row 35 for the Cleveland show. Looks like the tickets aren't that great, but you can get floor seats.
