busybeeburns
Coldplay cancels Edmonton date? Bad news, Coldplay fans. The British rockers have revised their upcoming North American tour — and their Tuesday, July 29 stop at Rexall is no longer on the list. Neither is their Calgary stop. Instead, Coldplay will be performing at Montreal's Bell Centre on July 29. Hmm. Weird. Perhaps Edmonton is over-saturated with concerts and promoters (Live Nation) were worried about local ticket sales? Or it could be due to production delays which have forced Coldplay to start their tour later than planned. “We’re very sorry, but we promise you a show worthy of your patience and understanding when we start in mid-July,” reads a band statement. Sources say Coldplay's Alberta shows might be rescheduled for later this year. http://communities.canada.com/edmontonjournal/blogs/pluggedin/archive/2008/06/10/coldplay-cancels-edmonton-date.aspx
Kaycee
The concert market here is DEFINITELY not oversaturated - a band like Coldplay would sell out in a couple of hours, no question!! AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! We always get screwed in favor of Toronto and Montreal
intelpentium4
I live in Edmonton. The simple reason the concert was moved to Toronto or Montreal on that day is because it is obvious that Coldplay would sell out in any city. Rexall place in Edmonton only holds just over 17,000 people where as the stadiums in Toronto and Montreal easily hold over 20,000 people. It's obvious that they will profit more from doing a show in one of those cities rather than Edmonton. It's sad that they had to follow the bigger money, hopefully that wasn't the band's decision.
