Are You Bored With Life?

Featured Replies

I don't know about you, but my life has become extremely boring. Its the same thing every day; my friends and nights are all the same. I need something exciting to happen to get me out of this hole. Does anyone else feel like they need to get out, explore, and just let loose? I know I do!

I was thinking this same thing, but I just graduated so my life is about to change once I get a job and move out.

One of my old friends from middle school won the lottery a few weeks ago ($17 million). He's 19. I bet he's not thinking about how boring his life is!

word. Ive been trying to find a job for the past month. Cept I live in michigan, which sucks for any kind of job.. But everything is always the same. I wish I had money so I could travel or do something. I want something different. I love life, and usually Im not too bored. But man, being home for the summer with no job/money really blows!

ask him if you can borrow a few million.. maybs just 1million.. and tell him you will pay him back someday..... somehow.:P

I think you've got to find something you love, or something you've always dreamt about doing, and just go for it. Screw it if it's impossible, do whatever it takes. My dream is to make films, and I'm damn well going to do it, too. It takes a lot of work, so you can't be lazy(which I am :S), but it's so worth it, and when you look back on this part of you're life, you're not going to say that you wasted it, you're going to be like, yeah, I followed my dreams. Even if you fail, at least you won't have any regrets....

Mmmm.....I just thought I'd pop in to say follow your dreams, and then I got all passionate, sooo.....feel free to just ignore anything that doesn't make sense or whatever.

A very serious reccomendation:

Read On the Road by Jack Kerouac. It will inspire you to get up and do something and maybe give you some ideas of ways to enrich your life. It's a very good read and can change your life.

I don't want to be a jerk or anything, so let me know if this is out of my bounds, buttt....

Money is way less important than doing what you love. If you want to enjoy life, then just keep it simple: Do what you enjoy. People will tell you that you need money and stuff, but you know what? You'll get by. You'll be ok. Doors will open for you that you had no idea were even possible if you just....stop being someone who's just the average 9-5 office job type, and start being someone who is living out the life that they have the potential for. Don't be afraid of getting hurt, or knocked down, as long as you're reaching for that ultimate goal, you'll get there in the end. Anyways. Don't sue me if you end up a hobo, which I probably will, but, that's my view on life :P. I really hope I don't sound like I've got it all figured out or whatever, but I just....believe this so strongly, you know? Like, so many people don't do what they love because they're afraid they won't have money, or nobody will like them or whatever, and that's such BS. Just do it. Ahh, ok, I'll stop now.

I like your attitude, Icewolf. You will be a well-liked member here no doubt.;)

Probably because this one girl in my life is becoming more and more special to me, and yeah, it's really making me think about life and what I'm doing, and I'm getting really inspired. Thanks for the compliment :).

man you know i agree with you 100% but let me ask you this: do you yourself live by this virtue? I mean, it sounds lovely and all but is it really possible?

Aww, I like you guys! Hahaha. I'm bored at the moment too. I am home from college for the summer, and have nothing to do until my full-time job starts up in the end of June. I really love my job, though it doesn't pay very well. But I'd rather have a job that I love and be kind of poor than get paid more money for a job that sucks my soul away, know what I mean?

The key is to realize that as a young person, you're the envy of the world. You've got time on your side, and relatively few responsibilities.

So I'm seriously considering starting a business with my friends - we have zero net worth, so we have nothing to lose. We don't have families or kids we have to support. We're enthusiastic, smart, etc. so we can do it. I also intend to start writing a book soon (I've got the basic plot built up in my head.

Do you think Coldplay stressed about wasting their time starting a band back when they were at school? Probably did. But look where it landed them - they're each worth something like $50 million.

JK Rowling was a single mother on welfare when she constructed the Harry Potter universe in a pub. Now she's richer than the Queen.

It certainly can be done. Whenever you start to doubt yourself, crush the thoughts before they flare up. People are followers, by nature. That's why they recommend we go get jobs when we graduate - it's the easy thing to do, we WANT to have a boss and a steady paycheck. My thinking is, I'd rather be my own boss. I'd rather employ people who are smarter than I am and tell them what to work toward. It might sound crass, but that's one of many ways to get rich!

I know how you feel, and like, I don't know 100% yet, I'm only 18. All I can tell you is that I'm going to do my very best to live by that, I have been trying now for a while, and so far, it's been awesome. I might not have lots of money in the bank, but I'm starting to go somewhere. Like, just a couple weeks ago, I made a music video for a girl, and she liked my work, so she recommended me to another musician, so who knows where that will go? And I lost money making the video for the girl, I only got paid $100, and that barely covers gas and equipment rental, let alone the hours of work I put into it. But it got me somewhere, so that's what counts! And I enjoyed every step of the way, you know.

So yeah, I can't promise you that things are going to work out, but....just have a little faith, I guess.

EDIT: Check this out, I just got this email as I was writing this:

"I was thinking of getting you to shoot all of the artists in this outdoor festival in Paris. It's on June 6 and 7. I'm going to talk to the guy who's putting it on and maybe, we all can pitch in to pay you."

:).

Very cool, Icewolf! Best of luck to you.

yeah you're right, faith is all we got sometimes isn't it? i guess i just need that lucky break you know, like what u got with the music video and the outdoor festival and such. that's a great opportunity, u should really take advantage of that.

The problem with the Internet is you can never help anyone out really. If you lived around me, I'd totally hook you up with some talented people who I know want to be in a band. Well, I guess all I can do is wish you the best of luck, and I hope you get to start a band. You can get what you want, all you have to do is try.

P.S. That's a brilliant quote: "faith is all we got sometimes". So true...

Hey, I just had an idea....this might seem a little odd, but check out a youth group at a local church or community center or something. I don't know why, but musicians seem to populate places like that. I'm part of a couple different youth groups, and there's a ton of musicians. Also, it's something to do if you're bored ;).

Yeah, true, but maybe something along those lines? Like, this music academy down the street from me has this guitar jam for adult musicians, 18 and older. Maybe there's something similar where you live, I don't know...

that would be fantastic actually

All of words in this thread are quite inspirational..

I can say that in past six months my life has taken a great turn. I’ve started doing things I would have never done before. I’m experiencing the unfamiliar and trying new things, and only now do I feel life has really begun. That's what defines life for me; it’s about experiencing. And as a result I'm more euphoric than ever, I feel I'm growing as a person. Heck. I'm only 15, but I feel my personal perspective will drive me to do great things.

I just finished uni for the summer. I was looking forward to exams being over for so long and now that they are over, I am so bored and have nothing to do. Arghhh. Frustrating.
