So I have this weird bite on my arm....

Featured Replies

I was out last night, and within about half an hour I had gotten bitten about 4 times by mosquitos, or so I thought. I realized this, so after I started noticing each bite I put spit on them to neutralize it. I came home and took a claritin (anti-histamine), and went to bed. This morning 3 of my 4 bites had gone down and don't bug me at all. My last one swelled up considerably, at least more then twice the size of a normal mosquito bite. It is kind of itchy, not as much as a normal bite, and it's a little tender to touch. I'm pretty sure it's not a bee sting, because those HURT and there's usually a spot from a stinger. There's no spot. And the way it started to develop looked like a mosquito bite...

Not sure how much you guys know, but if anyone knows what this could be, give me a clue! And I don't really have any allergies either.

are you sure you didn't maybe irritate it or infect it if you were scratching?

p.s.. I remember the 1560 competition.. congrats! isn't your name melanie? for some reason I remember the winner having the name "melanie"

Nah, I don't think so. I didn't scratch it much. Not anymore then I would've scratched the other ones...

hahah Amanda actually :) That picture I have attached is ridiculously old, I should probably take a new one. Wow. I can't believe it was 5 years ago...

oh sorry I can't be of much help :embarassed:

I remember going nuts all over the house trying to figure out what "1560" was... I believe the answer was.. the number of days Coldplay had been signed to their record label... and you said the number of days Coldplay had been together as a band ...I think that's how it went..but my memory's never worked very well

It could be a blackfly bite. I'm somewhat allergic to both mosquito and blackfly bites. The mosquito ones I can take an antihistamine for, but blackfly bites get all big and itchy and sore even with an antihistamine. Reactine seems to be the only thing that works on them.

Maybe that mosquito was able to bite you for longer and give you a bigger bump. Unless it starts oozing stuff or gets weird rings in or around it I wouldn't worry.

^ ahhhhh *tries to erase that image in my mind*

East Nile.:laugh3: I wouldn't worry too much - it's the saliva from the mosquito that gets injected as an anti-coagulant for the mosquito's purposes of taking a drink, and our bodies respond by swelling the surrounding tissue, and itching (response to foreign substances). So, Ms. Mykitten has it right, but if it persists, check further. As long as you know it was mosquitos, and you're not living in malaria or yellow fever areas (which Canada is well north of), you should be OK. Although, I really don't know what the symptoms of West Nile Virus are initially - probably that would be hard to tell, as viruses usually don't elicit much initial response (Malaria's caused by a spirochete; Yellow Fever I think is from a bacterium of sorts..)

Just Google it! But, I'd bet 99.9999% odds that it's just extra itchy mosquito saliva.;)

Best to visit the doc.

Nope your memory seems pretty fine. I did say that, but the key point was I said that it's been how long they've been together until the end of the AROBTTH tour. I just needed an ending because otherwise it would change everyday, so I tried to think of a logical time. I was doing all these crazy calculations. Then after I sent it in I wanted to change my answer:laugh3: Debs said mine was the closest, and 2 or 3 were pretty close.

Yeah well the bite looks about the same today:\ Maybe a little smaller? I dunno. Yeah if it doesn't change in the next few days I'll get it properly checked out. I don't think it's anything serious. At least, I hope not. It's probably just an extra big bite then. Someone said it could be a spider bite, but I strongly doubt it.

And no, no weird rings or oozing. Eugh. That's gross.
