:)Useless facts: the first Flash-light actually burned kerosene, had a "smokeless" flame, and was designed to be hung from the front of a bicycle. A new bicycle in 1895 cost between 40 and 85 dollars (US), and the first real production automobiles used bicycle tires and wheels. (1890's-1902).

The 1961 Tokens cover song called "The Wimoweh Song" or "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is based on an old Zulu legend. The legend says that when the Europeans came to Africa and took over, their last king, Chaka the Lion, did not die. He merely went to sleep and will reawaken some day. The "Wimoweh" sound repeated in the song is a misinterpretation of the Zulu phrase "uyim Bube" which means "You are a Lion".

daddy longleggs are the most poisonous beings alive....but have no way of distributing the poison

Actually that myth's been busted, if you know what I mean. ;) Their bites are no worse than those of mosquitoes, and can't give you malaria.

:dozey:

Ok, a few of my own:

You probably know a "byte" is 8 bits, that is, 8 ones and zeros. But for some reason, 4 bits also has a name that no one ever uses: "nibble."

The word "Bookkeeper" is kind of weird because it has 3 double letters in a row.

Adult mayflies and fireflies have no mouths, so if something doesn't eat them, they will die of starvation within a few days of becoming adults. :(

Left-handed people live significantly shorter lives on average than right-handed people, but apparently no one knows why. :\

Graphite (pencil lead) and diamonds have the same chemical composition, but different structures. :stunned:

There's an ancient light bulb in some random fire station that's been running almost continuously for well over a century and still hasn't burned out, possibly because the bulb contains a near-perfect vacuum, making the filament take forever to degrade. They really don't make 'em like they used to. :P

Only 2.9% of Americans will never swear in their life.

AND

Chuck Norris lost his virginity before his father.

I believe the color-blindness part, how would they know they were colorblind?:dozey:

Er...actually there's one other thing. "The Wimoweh Song" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" are actually two completely different songs often played at the same time as if they were one song. No, I'm not making that up. I've heard "The Wimoweh Song" by itself, with no mention made of the other one, which came later. This might be why they got combined, though.
