LIBERTY

Featured Replies

We Are Experiencing the Loss of What Our Enlightened World was Founded Upon. Liberty, the precious gift of successful revolutions, is slipping away here and elsewhere; if we fail to notice and act on this, we will be loosing that which most modern states are founded upon; individual liberties, which are protections against the abuses and intrusions of powerful and manipulative individuals and institutions and the rights of our own free will, have been eroded, and if we fail to act to stem these attacks, we face the consequences of a poorer world, one deprived of basic freedoms.

"Those who would trade Essential Liberty for Temporary Safety deserve neither". -Benjamin Franklin.

not to start up a debate, but would you rather get bombed by terrorists, or sacrifice some small freedoms?

The way I see it, you gotta find the good in any situation. Like with the government possibly listening in on our phone calls: I say funny and disgusting stuff on the phone, just hoping some government official is listening in.:P

I think this sums it up quite well...

Were more likely to die by 1000000 other things then terrorism. Hell if we keep giving up liberty, we'll be more likely to be killed by the government then terrorist.

This is EXACTLY the truth.

Do you know how many people die each year on average in car accidents? Over 40,000.

Not to make light of 9/11, but really... that's child's play compared to heart disease or any other causes of premature death. We elected a bunch of jackasses who ignore the 4th Amendment when writing new law.

I guess we really shouldn't be surprised. They've been ignoring the 5th Amendment ever since the income tax was passed. Being forced to fill out and sign a 1040 gives the government a view of all your sources of income, and it can be used as incriminating evidence against you in a court of law. The 5th Amendment says you can't be made to testify against yourself.

Then there are all the attacks on internet "freedoms" currently taking place.

Well this is another good point, and as I see it there's a huge conflict of interest between governments (in general) and the internet. That's why I don't believe in things like "Net Neutrality". The second you let government have ANY legislative authority over ISPs, you've opened a whole can of worms that they'll use in the distant future to censor the internet.

Let the ISPs censor the internet themselves. If they do, people will get mad and demand they stop. If they don't stop, another ISP will pop up that allows full access to the internet, uncensored. It might be more expensive initially but I'd much rather pay for this than give the current batch of ISPs a government protected monopoly.

If our founding fathers were alive today, they'd be angered by our leaders. Hell, they'd probably resign the declaration of independence.
