Channel 4 and Bauer Media, which are behind the venture, said 4Music signified the rebirth of music TV.

4Music will be launched over the V Festival weekend and be available on Sky 360, Virgin 330 and Freeview 18.

Alexa Chung, Nick Grimshaw, Miquita Oliver, Lauren Laverne and Steve Jones among others will be hosting shows across the channel.

4Music will kick off with exclusive live coverage of the V Festival on August 16 and 17, with headline sets from The Verve and Muse.

It will be followed by coverage of Bestival, featuring headline act Amy Winehouse.

Orange RockCorps will also make its debut on 4Music, a music-led volunteering programme that climaxes with a concert of diverse acts, including Busta Rhymes at the Royal Albert Hall.

In September, 4Music will team up with the Vodafone Live Music Awards. Series to appear on the 4Music channel will include Live from Abbey Road.

4Music Presents is lined up to host Coldplay, The Verve, James Morrison and Sugababes and many more.
