Rock band Feeder have escaped from an explosive motorway crash without any injuries.

 

The group were on the M62 heading to Lincoln after a gig at Glasgow Barrowlands on Friday night when their tour bus crashed and then exploded.

 

Officials closed the motorway but there were no serious injuries, a statement from the group confirmed.

 

"Everybody is safe, but all the merchandising and catering is destroyed. All the crew were left in their pants - JD Sports kindly dressed them all today."

 

The statement added that the remainder of the band's UK tour will go ahead unaffected.

Feeder tour bus destroyed by fire

 

 

The tour crew of rock band Feeder had a lucky escape when the bus they were travelling in exploded minutes after they had evacuated it.

 

The 13 men were being driven from a gig in Glasgow to the next venue in Lincoln early on Saturday morning when their driver noticed a problem with the bus.

 

Manager Matt Page said that, shortly after the men were evacuated, there was "a fireball" which destroyed the bus.

 

Band members were safely sleeping at a hotel in Lincoln, he added.

 

The incident happened at about 0400 BST on the M62 motorway, near Saddleworth Moor, in Lancashire.

 

'Miles away'

 

"The driver of the crew bus saw something untoward coming out of the rear of his vehicle, pulled over to check and there was smoke and flames all over the place," said Mr Page.

 

"There were 13 men on board asleep in their bunks - he dug them all out and a few minutes later there was a fireball.

 

"Obviously, all possessions and laptops and all sorts of things all burnt to a cinder."

 

He said the blaze, which led to the temporary closure of a stretch of the motorway, was put out by a fire crew but that the bus was destroyed.

 

"They were very fortunate indeed," he added.

 

Because all their personal possessions were destroyed in the fire, sports shop JD Sports, in Lincoln, had "kitted them all out" with clothes on Saturday.

 

The band were "many miles away" from the incident because they had travelled on a separate bus, Mr Page added.

 

Feeder, formed in 1992 and fronted by lead singer Grant Nicholas, have released six studio albums with five making the UK top 10.

 

Their latest album, Silent Cry, released in June this year, went to number eight in the UK.
