:S 2 what?

It strikes me as amusing (if not a bit disconcerting) that one can take a semester of Calculus II, learn how to solve equations relating volumes of objects described by complex 3-dimensional formula - or you could just have a computer do it! (someone has to program it, but not all that many mathematicians would be needed..)

Or, you could make a model of the object, and fill it with water from a glass of water - then measure the volume of water.

But using mathematics to create works of art - mow that's useful!!

Maybe what's missing is more practical applications.. and more imagination into the truth behind what mathematics really means - a symbolic representation of relationships within the known universe.

I like your thought. It's true that now computers do the hardest part (see how we use coldplay name songs haha you said glass of water) but those computer programs were made by people who know how to do it without them so to go even further in this stuff you need to know all you can. And it is indeed amazing that math is used to create works of art.

I find it cool and satisfiting when I can solve something that's not homework or a class excersice with my math ability on my own,

Yeah congrats, good for you!

PD: THIS IS MY 1000 POST!!!!!!!!!! AND I'M PROUD IT'S IN A THREAD I STARTED HAHA

Did the solution to that problem have to be so complicated? You could just have said:

y = x*x^(1/2) = x^(3/2)

y' = (3/2)*x^(1/2)

Don't even need to use chain rule

Edit:NVM just looked at the previous page with the correct problem statement
