mc_squared
Shop worker trampled to death as Thanksgiving bargains prompt stampede By David Gardner Last updated at 4:42 PM on 28th November 2008 Comments (0) Add to My Stories A shop worker was trampled to death when hundreds of American bargain hunters stampeded through the doors at the opening of a superstore sale this morning. The stock clerk was bowled over as he tried to hold back the unruly crowds. As he gasped for air, witnesses said shoppers swarmed over him, stepping on him and pushing him back down as he tried to get out of the way. The Wal- Mart worker was killed as shoppers stampeded a store in New York. Bargain hunters queued across America to make the most of Thanksgiving discounts, including in Los Angeles (pictured here) A pregnant woman also reportedly miscarried after being knocked to the ground in the melee. Before police shut down the Wal-Mart store in Valley Stream in Long Island, New York, shoppers continued to stream past emergency crews as they fought desperately to save the fallen worker’s life. ‘They’re savages,’ said shopper Kimberley Cribbs, 27. ‘It’s said. It’s terrible.’ ‘He was bum-rushed by 200 people,’ said another shop worker Jimmy Overby, 43. ‘They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down, too. I literally had to fight people off my back.’ ‘They were working on him, but you could see he was dead,’ added Halcyon Alexander, 29. ‘But people were still coming through.’ Witness Jessica Keyes told the New York Daily News that she saw the pregnant woman barged down a few feet from the dying worker. ‘When the paramedics came, she said, ‘I’m pregnant.’ But then the medics told her, There’s nothing we can do – the baby’s gone,'' she said. The tragedies happened during America’s traditional ‘Black Friday’ shopping spree when shops around the country boast big discounts and open as early as 4am for shoppers eager to take advantages of prices slashed by as much as 80% for televisions, furniture and designer clothes. With the US economy in dire straits and consumer spending plummeting, retailers desperate for business slashed their prices even lower than usual. The death at the Valley Stream Wal-Mart happened moments after the doors were opened at 5am. Last year, the store was the second-biggest grossing Wal-Mart in the country. But it was closed for hours as police investigated the incident. The Nassau County Medical Examiner had not confirmed the cause of death last night. In many other parts of the country, shoppers queued up all night to be first in line for bargains. Last year, Americans spent more than £5billion on ‘Black Friday’, but that total is expected to be significantly down this year because of the financial crisis. butterfliesinjapan
did they also say kill an innocent worker because they can save a few dollars on an item? What did those people do after? Kept on shopping even though they just trampled the guy flat? Cheap products > Human Being, is how I see it.

Matter-Eater Lad
I hope they get security camera video's of all the people who came in while he was being trampled and charge all of them with manslaughter. I don't care if its 200 people, they deserve prison time for this stupidity.

Especially if you see it in his familes' perpective, if he has children that's even worse (Children Lost Father in a Walmart Store).:stunned: Walmart isn't even that great to kill someone over it. His family will prob never like thanksgiving again nor go shopping there again.
