How many instruments do they play?!

Featured Replies

They as in Coldplay, I was lucky enough to go to the concert this tour, because I could go any others. But including the recording studio, how may instruments do they play! I can count guitar, piano, bass, drums, violin, mandolin, harmonica, hammered dulcimer, viola, tamborine any others please add!:D

guy sometimes plays maracas.. (is it the right way to write?)

Yes, it is the raight way!

Add keyboard to the list!

Will Champion is referred to often as a multi-instrumentalist. Before Coldplay he had experience playing Guitar, Bass, Piano, Tin Whistle, Violin and probably several more. He only started playing drums when he joined the band.

As for Chris. Along with piano and guitar, he also played clarinet growing up.

Along with Bass, Guy played the harmonica a few times, the piano during cemeteries of london, a korg keyboard during X&Y, a tom drum during Lost!, and a mandolin during the acoustic session in the balconies.

Jonny's only changes from guitar include the harmonica during don't panic, piano during sparks back in the day, and keyboard during Viva la Vida.

waow.there was this interview where some guy said Will could play the violin. He can just play anything

That's an impressive list. They are incredibly talented!

Yea thats right maracas, Guy is the one who plays the dulcimer by the way(which is featured in Life in technicolor). There all multi-talented, but guy and will seem to expand a lot during this tour!

This is pretty common in music actually. Very rarely does someone play just one instrument, however where you do see it is mainstream music, thats why people think this is the case most of the time. We only are used to seeing/hearing mainstream pop/rock music and these musicians generally only play one instrument or a lot of times can't actually play ANY instruments.

This is why I love Coldplay, there is a genuine musical talent that is hard to find anymore. In my band, our drummer can also play guitar and bass, our bass player can play guitar and keyboard, and I play Guitar, bass, keyboard and saxophone....soon to learn the violin.
