51st Grammy Awards

Featured Replies

earlier on the nominations for the 51st annual grammy awards were announced. personally im not a big fan of award nights but being the music nerd i am i cant help but pay a bit of attention to the grammys. the most successful artist was Lil Wayne who picked up 8 followed by coldplay with 7 then three rap artist kanye west, jay-z and ne-yo. Radiohead deservedly picked up 5 noms alongside former led zep frontman robert plant in his interesting yet brilliant duet with country star Alison krauss. on the other hand metallica got three nominations.

here are some of the categories i feel deserve some attention

i wonder if radiohead will perform or not. they were invited to do so back in 1998 when OK computer was nominated for best album. they said they would like to do Exit Music which ends with the lines "we hope you choke" this didnt go down well with the band so they opted out and rejected an offer to present an award. will be very interesting to see what goes down this time.

coldplay will perform no doubt.

^^ hm. waht would coldplay perform hope it would be fantastic like politik!.nad radiohead.their not that famous in here .never really were commercial their more of the artsy band not so commercial at all... but i like them.,

Afraid Coldplay already played politik in 2003

Since they played lovers in Japan at the AMA's (which didn't go so well) I have a sneaking suspicion they aren't going to any of the four singles. My best guess is Glass of Water, or maybe a non single off of VLV.

On another note, don't know about you, but radiohead are huge pretty much everywhere. They don't hit pop radio often, but they're essentially a household name like u2, especially after the success of in rainbows.

hey just wanna ask you guys, did coldplay win any awards this year other than BT? I dont enjoy award shows so much

jonas brothers will win new artist of the year

 are you happy with that, justin? :wink3:

^^ um i know they played politik athas why i said i hop[e they have the same awesome performnce as politik has..... and .........radiohead yes their not famous and literally unknwn here i didnt even know them until i came here in this forum.

they might be very well known. but not many non-alternative music fans could name more than 3 or 4 songs. u could never compare the popularity of radiohead with U2. U2 do massive stadium tours around the world on every continent and have sold over 150 million records. radiohead have barely hit 30 million despite their massive critical acclaim. they maybe household names in england and parts of europe but i dont see how a band thats only played on 3 of America's top 1000 radio stations can be considered to be household names.

the album in rainbows single handedly changed my taste in music so i have an obvious liking for it. but the only category in which i said radiohead should clearly win is alternative album because its the only album thats been nominated in best album of the year.

I loved the list of nominations, aside from kind of messed up choices for "Rock Album"... On the alternative list of nominations - Is it just me or has ELBOW's The Seldom Seen Kid been snubbed here???? Evil Urges was just OK for me... Its no Z thats for sure. The Seldom Seen Kid has been overlooked or missed by the voters. It will remain my 2nd favorite album of the year handsdown.

Oh and one last thing.

VLVODAAHF Album Of The Year!!!!!!!!

surprised nobody picked this up. but how about the english domination. 3 of the 5 albums nominated for best album are by english bands. you have leona lewis and MIA and Adele in the best song/record categories.

funnily enough i thought 2008 was a poor year for the English music scene. both oasis and kaiser chiefs didnt quite live up to expectations and personally vlv didnt quite do it for me.

how come MGMT were not nominated? their album i know has been huge in the states and no one can say it hasnt received great critical acclaim. and it dosnt surprise me that Elbow werent nominated. past winners of the Mercury prize (klaxons and arctic monkeys and dizee rascal) were all snubbed by the grammys.

would anyone else agree with me in saying that they need to cut down on the number of Rock categories and add some to the Alternative section?
