Fearne Cotton to unveil Brit Award nominees

DJ Fearne Cotton has been chosen to announce the nominations for this year's Brit awards, organisers said today.

Nominees will be unveiled at an event hosted by the Radio 1 Chart Show DJ on January 20 at the Roundhouse in Camden, north London.

It is the first big music industry party of the year ahead of the Brit awards next month, the most important event in the British music calendar.

Coldplay are expected to be up for awards this year after success with their fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death And All His Friends.

Music at the nominations will be provided by this year's Brit critics' choice award winner, Florence And The Machine.

It was announced last month that she had scooped the award, which focuses on new British acts tipped to break through next year, and is open to artists signed to a label with debut albums in 2009.

Last year's winner, Adele, went on to sell 1.2 million copies of her first album, 19.

Florence And The Machine is the recording name of south London's Florence Welch.

Australian singer-songwriter Gabriella Cilmi and London-based indie band Scouting For Girls will also be performing on the night.

Last year's big winners at the Brits were Take That, who scooped best live act and best British single.

Arctic Monkeys also enjoyed success in 2008 with best British group and best British album in an evening that saw Sir Paul McCartney honoured for his outstanding contribution to music.

Ged Doherty, chairman of The Brits Committee, said: "The nominations launch party has firmly established itself as a major night for music in its own right.

"It's a great platform for Florence And The Machine to show why she has won the critics' choice award this year, while the presence of Gabriella Cilmi and Scouting For Girls will ensure a vibrant and exciting night for all."

Once the nominations for the 11 awards have been announced pop fans can then vote for their favourite British single, live act and breakthrough act from the shortlists. The best British single is finally decided on the night by a live telephone vote.

The Brits Academy, made up of 1,000 invited music industry insiders and critics, decide on the remaining eight awards.

The Brit awards take place on February 18 at London's Earls Court and will be broadcast live on ITV1. They will see the Pet Shop Boys pick up an award for their outstanding contribution to music.

Fearne Cotton?

Urgh!

When will producers realise that other presenters are available... I can't stand her

Ha. Rather her than Chung!

Eat a sandwich and get off my TV.

Once again, I bow to the wisdom of the mods!

I'd forgotten all about her, she makes me so :veryangry2:

So when Coldplay will be nominated for maybe one or more awards and they even win one (or more) they could even show up. :)

The concert in Osaka is on Febr. 15th and the next show is on Feb. 27th in Perth.

The Brits are on the 18th and ... *drum roll* ... the Echo Awards (next to the Grammy's and the Brits meant to be the third important music award show) will take place on February 21st in Berlin/Germany and if they win something there as well it would be great if they show up before leaving to Australia.

And I would be really surprised if Coldplay won't be nominated for the Echos (nominees/categories are not yet revealed).

I keep you updated on the Echo-front :)

U2 to play this year's BRIT Awards...

"More of the line-up is set to be announced soon, with the likes of Coldplay among those rumoured to be playing."

I saw on The Sunday Night Project that James Corden is presenting... should be good (and it's not Fearne Cotton - she was making a fool of herself at The Golden Globes last night)

^She is terrible isn'nt she, stick her with Raggie Yates, and you get the couple from HELL!!!

Good luck to Coldplay, they deserve it :)

Fearne Cotton... :inquisitive: I wish she had a mute button

the sure do! it will be their year again in 2009!
