Better Ways with Silicon

Cool!

Must be interesting being hoisted onto a pier like that! Here, we have shallow lakes, but usually the water deepens quick enough to launch boats..

I'll try and drum up an image somewhere..

Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in. Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in...

Just because it was such a beautiful sunny day and I had a cup of tea on the balcony for the first time this year :)

Oh wow! That really is picturesque!!! :)

Still, I must keep my nose to the grindstone here..:builder2: (too much scenery - it's just so tempting to wander off!:escaping:)

Silicon - Purity can be less than chip-grade, which could lower costs in time. I like the panels that are being used as shades over porticoes. (time to drum up (or sand down) a picture...)

Yeah I'd like to see a picture!:)

Yeah, they're pretty & pretty cool, me thinks as well.. Somewhere there's an awning/portico made using transparent solar cells.. Home Power had it as a cover too - if I can get the image...

That'd be great!

Let's all GO GREEN!:D

I've seen them, they look fantastic!!.... shame we can't post those pics on here :\

Someday, YES! Today, I just want to get the garden in.:) They're great for places where that design works, but I think for my situation, I would be better off getting ordinary panels, and installing them on the edge of the field (not enough sun hits the house). Do you plan on putting any up, Carla??

There are more stars in the universe than sand covering all the world's beaches, and the ultimate source of all this sand is the supernovae condensed matter that formed the Earth and the other planets.. So in a roundabout way, silicon is a product of nuclear fusion, and the sun is a reactor.. But an interesting thought - silicon solar cells are very responsive in the infra-red. Would they work well as a direct method of converting heat into electricity?

Among silicon's other uses is for steel alloys - sold as ferro-silicon, and useful for making tougher metal, and rust-resistant alloys.

Ah my very own elemental spam thread!! YAY!:)

Silicon is the predominant element in most glasses, so we see the world looking through silicon, is a manner of thinking. If the yanomami will be listened to, it's still possible to make the changes, and keep the living systems in tact, for everyone's sake.
