that actually happens right here on this forum too :(

Yeah, why can't i talk about my silly bsb fangirl years without being picked on??

Wow. It makes me really sad to read all of this, particularly the part about how it's "uncool to like Coldplay in the UK." That explains the "Worst Album" nomination at this year's NME's for "Viva La Vida." It didn't make sense at all at the time, and really, it still doesn't, but it kinda does.

I honestly don't see why people think that there's something horribly wrong with Coldplay. They're not out of tune or anything severe. :( And people getting beat up for it? That's frickin' ridiculous. Most of the people I talk to about Coldplay actually like them a lot, so I guess this whole negative thing just baffles me.

Oh my gosh, I'm glad I didn't get made fun of for MY first boy-band favorites, the Bay City Rollers...that might have scarred me for life...

(now I've really aged myself)

nah! not at all  erm well, actually........

I've never received any abuse because i like coldplay, but most of my friends absolutely hate coldplay, although for my birthday they did buy a coldplay cake for me!!

But they are the best friends ever! =]

really! I heard someone got really close to them at a fab after partayyy

A lot of people here know about Coldplay, mostly because of VLV.

Now here's my little story...

When I heard Violet Hill last summer I didn't like it. To be honest, I REALLY didn't like it and thought who the heck are Coldplay?! :embarassed: But, you know, I was acting really immature about kinds of music back then. Then, VLV made me think a bit and realise that both songs are great. And well later I heard Lost! (which became my fav song and still is), Lovers In Japan, and Homecoming by Kanye West and Chris Martin. I just fell in love. Never before any band made me want to found out more about them, so I did and I still am discovering something new about Coldplay every day. They are the first band whose EVERY song, that I heard, I liked.

So I thought, oh man I was stupid! Prejudice is a horrible thing. I have learned my lesson, and it's all thanks to Coldplay. My musical taste has totally changed and I like some musicians that only some of my friends listen to.

I am proud to say that I like Coldplay if somebody asks. I only got a few negative comments but I just ignore those. I just live and let everybody else live too, and like what they want. :) It's just sometimes that it makes me angry when somebody says really bad stuff, but I almost never hear something like that.

There is a music rivalry here also. It's usually between our Serbian music (but a very specific kind that I really dislike, I'm saying this because there's good stuff too, but I don't listen to that music either...) and "worldwide" rock, metal and alternative. Fans of those two "music directions" don't really conflict or fight as well as I know, but a rivalry exists for sure. For example most of the metal music fans can't stand the fans of Serbian music, and contrary.

Well I know you're not going to be picked on by me! I like(d) them also! :)

Well I finished high school just about a year ago, so let me tell you why people here in UK diss Coldplay. Well, there are several reasons for it. First, the fact that I live in Manchester, which is probably the most dangerous and violent city in Europe, and therefore, nearly the whole school is usually populated by 15 year olds who swear at each other as a hobby and mostly listen to 50 cent or lil’ wayne rapping about guns and killing people!!! So hating Coldplay is sort of expected!!!

The second reason is the fact that Coldplay aren’t cool here. Why you might think?! Because they are too successful, very polite middle-class boys and aren’t exactly your ordinary rock stars who do drugs and spend a lot of their time drinking or harassing others!! The third reason is that in this country people have a habit of hating others who are generally very successful. Whether its your next door neighbour, a rock band/star or even members of your own family and friends!! Its as if you need to have a negative factor and cant prove to be too good, or much better than others.

There are of course other reason for hating them; for instance, I asked one of my mates why he hated them, and he replied saying “because if you go to their gig people don’t throw bear bottles at each other and no one gets into a fight”!!!! He said they are “too boring and too polite”!!!! (typical mancunian guy obviously!!!)

You’d never really feel and know how and why people hate them here until you actually come and live within the society! But I was never ever ashamed or embarrassed by liking Coldplay, and never will be, and I also make sure everyone who I encounter with knows I absolutely love and adore them and that they have to respect them, or else they get their heads smashed in!! I always try to respect people’s opinions and admirations, and therefore I expect the same treatment. That’s the way it should be! So from now on don’t be scared or embarrassed of what you like or you don’t. Show people you are the one who sets the rules not them ;) (being a big guy obviously helps!:D)
