Viva Cassette?

Featured Replies

Yes, they still make cassetes.

No, that isn't official.

(Probably.)

I think it is official though. I've got their first 3 albums on cassette and they all come from indonesia or Malaysia because they still have a lot of cassette decks over there.

My cassettes look official, the inlay and such aren't that easy to duplicate.

HOLY CRAP! Do they still make cassettes?

We have high quality 180g vinyl discs, CDs, SACDs, Gold CDs, DVD-A and they are still making CASSETTES?!?!?

Actually, it seems to be official. Malasya really uses cassetes (yet it's hard to believe, since a CD-R is around R$ 0,75 [uS$ 0,30])

it's possible that it's official. says there in print on the front that it's only for sale in Indonesia (the bit that says "HANYA UNTUK DIJUAL DI INDONESIA") anyway, aside from the declaration that it's an "Indonesia Cassette".

most developed parts/cities in Indonesia & Malaysia have long moved on to music CDs already, but some particularly those staying in rural regions still stick to the cassette format since they are much cheaper & no need to shell out for a "brand new" player. problem with these cassettes is that the film strip are very likely to go mouldy with time tho.

Yeah i got Rush of blood to head cassete from Indonesia too.. so i think its something official, in there is written "launch by EMI Indonesia" so.. i guess is oficial hehe pretty cool, i love it! :)

yes it's official. i promise; ive been collecting coldplay for over 7 years now; sorting through the fakes is a full time job. aside from Parachutes single cassingles in the EU, we havent seen much in the way of the releases on cassette, but Parachutes was definitely distributed on cassette in the EU. Cassette releases are still very true for several Asian countries. Malaysia, Indonesia, and even Singapore. Even AROBTTH was released on cassette in Japan at some point; I own a promotional issue of the cassette (very real).

The value of obtaining one is to be seen, i guess. Cassettes wont stick around like vinyl, but were more predominant that eight track tapes. Hell, even some old reel-to-reel tapes fetch nice prices on eBay...but cassettes were around a lot longer than reel-to-reels too.
