need help buying vinyl in london

Featured Replies

My mom is going to london this thursday.

I want her to buy me vinyl. I need a place where

they have originals of the beatles, smiths, clash,

dylan, jeff buckley. Also modern ones such as

coldplay, radiohead, and nirvana. Also can anyone tell

me the prices of vinyl such as beatles. and of coldplay.

i dont want re-issues of the ones from the 80's and before.

thank you!!!

Depends which part of London your mum is going to

Vinyl Addiction in Camden is good

sister ray records...

there's loads in the side streets behind oxford street...not sure about what you're looking for as i only tend to buy rare funk and trip hop kind of stuff on vinyl, but most record shops there have diverse ranges.

I buy vinyl all the time, but I don't even own a record player. I would recommend going online or through EBAY. Someone out there has exactly what you are looking for, you just need to find him/her.

I buy most of my vinyl at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles. It doesn't get much better than in terms of selection.

Also, can someone explain to me the fascination with vinyl records? As mentioned, I don't ever play my records, but I love buying them as a collectors item. What is the sound difference when it comes to vinyl? Perhaps I will have to get a record player because it seems to be a very popular format right now.

People like you make me mad. Whats the point in owning vinyl if you don't listen to them? Go purchase a record player and hear the difference for your self... Also, vinyl has ALWAYS been a popular format have you noticed how they have never stopped making them?

The point is that I collect vinyl. I purchase vinyl records, get the cover autographed, and frame it on my wall. Can't I do that...be a collector? Or do I need to run it by you before I make a purchase?

Since I have all this vinyl sitting around my house, I asked what I thought was a legitimate question. Would anyone care to answer it?

I guess since you buy records to only get autographed then you aren't buying any classics, but the sound quality is far better and there is zero compression. Tha'ts why CDs sound like crap.

Fair enough. But I do think I have some classic albums (i.e. Born In The USA, Who's Next, Pet Sounds, OK Computer, Ten, Unforgettable Fire, Zenyatta Mondatta, etc.), or at least they are "classics" in my opinion.

Everyone always tells me that the sound is "richer" or "warmer." I always wondered what the hell that meant. Thanks for giving me some idea, and I do plan to get a record player someday. But I move so much that I don't even use CDs because they are too bulky. All of my music is on audio files, and the vinyl records are stored at my parent's house (in my old room).

Get American Beauty by the Grateful Dead on mono vinyl, that will be a good example of the sound I am talking about.

^ ok....next time I go to Amoeba Records, I will pull it from the shelf and go over to their record player. Thanks for the info.

And I now understand what you mean by "classics." Yeah, I don't care how much it is worth, and don't collect rare vinyl, I just like the artwork.

The odds of the store having that particular album is probably pretty slim... But good luck it took me three years to find a copy I could actually afford.
