The Official SAT Thread: How do you study for SAT?

Featured Replies

Exactly :D. These days, the SATs tend to be one of the least significant things colleges look at when submitted along with grades and extracurriculars and all that.

So are you suggesting they're old SAT??

Especially cause I thought I'd do really shit on my English, I'm still wondering if they made some sort of mistake.

Only if you wrote anything like that in your test!!:P

It is in dictionary. :P

And I still got full scholarships for college :P

"It" - or shit??:P

It is the pronoun. Shit is the subject. :P

See... I'm on top of my English game.

Most of you didn't study at all :stunned:

IMO, the critical reading part is the hardest. I always messed it up. :bigcry:

No shit!!:P

Don't worry about the test so much Rudy, it's pretty basic. Just eat beforehand, wear comfortable clothes, and get plenty of rest the night before. It's just hard because it's so long and tiring and toward the end it gets hard to focus. If you prepare well and get ready you will do as good as you can. You can't do better than that. This test is designed to measure your ability to learn, not your ability to cram SAT books the week before.

I have a question now. I never heard about SATs before joining this board. If I, for example, want to go to an American college one day, do I need to take them? And when?

You don't have to take them. Some colleges make it a requirement, some don't. There is also the ACT's, a similar test you could take. You take them whenever you can (early enough that you can get your scores before applying to colleges).

Thanks Nick. :D

Some of my friends told me that SAT is only required if you want to apply for any Ivy League colleges. Is it true?

That's probably a generalization. It's probably true that all Ivy League schools require you to take them (and to get a ridiculously high score ). But it all depends on the school. Some non-Ivy Leaguers will require it, some won't.

Oh. What's the average score eh? Is it really hard to get 1800?

Thanks. So it depends on the college?

And I actually don't know where I could take them. Perhaps I should do some research.

Average scores are a lot lower, remember how many people get very low scores. Anything above 1700 I think is considered 'above average', like a B type grade.

Tons of info and sign-ups and practice tests here:

that's basically the site for SATs.

so an SAT is to get into college?

it is a test that is designed to measure your ability to learn. you take it and most colleges use it along with your grades and extra-curriculars as means of selecting applicants.

oh, sounds not very fun :\

It's a 5 hour test with short breaks where you basically have to bubble in answers testing everything you should know after 3 years of high school. It is not fun. But you do feel accomplished after it's over.

accomplishment is a good feeling.

I don't really have much to say on this topic.

I guess it's like a really hard exam.
