One of Sweden's biggest popartist, Darin, has done a cover of Viva La Vida.

He came 2nd on Swedish Idol for a couple of years ago and preformed with the song at the opening of Idol 2009 last friday.

I have a weakness - or rather I A D O R E this song by Coldplay. And it is always difficult to do a cover version of a song as good and popular as this one.

 

So even though I liked some passages of Darin's version, I must admit that I much prefer the original version by Coldplay.

 

And now I am going to hear Pet Shop Boys' version of Viva la Vida as I have not heard that one before. :)

Now I have also heard Pet Shop Boys' cover version of Viva la Vida. I must admit that I didn't like it.

 

When I heard Darin's version for the 3rd time, I felt a little sick. And I did not like Pet Shop Boys' version.

really? i thought the pet shop boys one was cool, not as good as coldplays version but still good,

thats not as good a video as the original one i saw too

I like both. But if I hear the one from Darin, I really nead the VLV of Coldplay after it.

So, I like the PSB more.

No disrespect to people liking Darin's cover, but I hate it. It's just all wrong and blah, too pop-y. And I don't like him at all. It's a swedish thing, neither you love him or you rather jump off a cliff than to listen to his music.

Nothing can beat the original Viva la Vida. Sorry and no offense to both artists, but I didn't like their covers at all.

VIVA LA VIDA COVER DEBUTS AT NO. 5 IN SWEDISH SINGLE CHARTS

 

I am listening to the Swedish Sales- and Download list and can inform you

that the presenter has just played DARIN's cover of VIVA LA VIDA debuting at position no. 5.

 

Darin participated in the Swedish "Idols" a couple of years ago and then ended up no. 2. Last week he performed with Viva la Vida at this year's "Idols" - with success! But I will ALWAYS prefer the original one by Coldplay. I am not tired of the original, but felt a bit sick when hearing Darin's version for the third time - too pop-y somehow!

I like parts of Darin's version, and dislikes part of it as being too sweet / smooth - superficial like "here we go".

 

But my emotions are mixed as I do find it cool that a Coldplay song is back on the chart - but I MISSED THE ORIGINAL.

 

Coldplay peaked at no. 5 with Viva la Vida one year ago, but stayed in the charts for a very long time (½ year or so).

I have to agree with you, it's nowhere near the original though .

I found this VLV cover on youtube which seems to be very appreciated and I must admit that guy is not bad either :o .

But well, once again it has nothing to do with the original ...

Darin's is pretty okay. It's not bad on its own, but it doesn't fit the lyrics or capture the mood of the original, which was what I like best about VLV. If Darin had written the melody himself and paired it with sappy lyrics, it'd be a catchy pop song! :smug:

I don't like it,

but i like the fact it's not a exact karaoke copy of it.

Darin's VLV cover no. 1 for third week in Sweden

 

I learned that Darin's cover of Viva la Vida is no. 1 for the third week in a row on the Swedish single chart (sales and download chart).

I heard his version for the first time when he debuted with it on Idol. Like somebody already wrote here, it doesn't capture the feeling at all. That's why I usually don't listen to covers of my favourite artists/groups songs =/ No, I don't like it (and why does everybody cover Viva La Vida? -_-)
