42 tuning

Featured Replies

Like some people say it's in FFFFFF.

But after watching some video's I see Jonny playing things in drop D tuning.

He's exactly playing things like I am in Drop D.

But also sometimes I see him playing in FFFFFF or something else.

WTF, what is he realy doing? Sometimes changes with the tuning? :stunned:

i dont think tuning matters much as long as you get the right sound. drop d would work fine.

well, do you have a vid with jonny playing drop d? i've only seen him ffffff (nissan live, later with jools holland, live at the bbc, other stuff)

I don't know the exact tuning there, but it's not FFFFFF..

that was what i meant with jools holland... it IS ffffff

tune your guitar ffffff and you'll see it is

No, I play the chords like he is doing in the video, but in FFFFFF it sounds different.

what do you need the FFFFFF or drop D for?

Even standard sound ok or what's the special thing

in the guitar you want to achieve?

it's easy to play 3 or 4 times the same note, or the notes in different octaves , just by putting your finger down on one fret... you can play a lot faster with ffffff and it gives you an extraordinary sound you couldn't get by drop d or standard tuning...

but just looking at what jonny plays live and using that on a guitar tuned to FFFFFF it doesnt sound right. im sure im not the only one who has tried before.

That's exactly why I started this thread.

Sometimes it sounds like he's playing in FFFFFF..

But he's playing chords that sounds shit in FFFFFF...:confused:

um, he isn't ? i can't see him doing chords... he's only using one flat finger in one fret... (not all strings at a time, but some...)

Is it 6 times the same note??? I don't get this tuning, could you please tell me the exact name of the Fs?

Thanks :)

just an f ! well, the nearest f obviously!

from the e string, tune up to f;

a down to f;

d whatever you like, i prefer up;

g down;

h/b down;

e up;

it's always an f, only in different octaves!

Not to state the obvious, but it's going to "sound shit" with just the tuning and no and/or wrong effects. He uses a micro POG to get the sound for the middle section, and it's very tricky to get that type of sound without some type of octive generating effect. I suspect this may be a large part of your quest to get the right tone.

You don't have to tune it in only F.

It's even not the best way to get the best sound from it.

Thank you for the answers as for now :)

Could someone be so nice to tab 42 out in FFFFFF tuning? I've only found tabs for standard tuning and I failed to play it by ear :/

Thanks in advance for your help!

I only have a video where I play it in DADGBB but uploading failed :uhoh:

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 2 months later...

Yuppppp

wow, what a weird tuning!

but you also have to use a pitch shifter to play it?!

i give up trying to learn it the right way! =P
