If Spock had copper-based blood, and his mother was a human:

Featured Replies

And human mothers, when incubating a fetus, literally share blood with it...

how the fuck does he have copper-based blood. :blank: This is really bothering me.

Of course you could go all GENETICAL INGENERING CAN DO EVERYTHING IN THE FUTURE INNIT on me but that isn't a satisfying answer.

Oh, uh, just kidding, I did some actual research and I'm totally wrong.

...yeah... :embarassed:

ALEXA TO THE RESCUE :awesome:

Okay, well I has another question, copper-based blood is blue or at most sort of bluey-green... why would Vulcans have green blood anyway. :blank:

I'm pretty sure Lady Gargoyle's mother must have been an extra-terrestrial. It would certainly explain everything.

Because it's copper based? :uhoh:

Random! :awesome:

I was going to say maybe because when copper is in the humidity for so long it turns green (I think :uhoh:) but the blood's not outside their bodies...

Random! :awesome:

As she looks like an alien, I don't think it is......................... :P

I dunno about the blood color.

I'd say mutated hemoglobin.

Besides, humans are able to process copper.

But hemoglobin is iron-based, and apparently there's shit saying that his is copper-based, and that Vulcan blood is lyk omgfuckinggreen and his blood is omgfuckingnotquiteasgreenbutyeait'sdefinitelygreen... but... you know... copper-based blood is blue...

590_crash_blood.jpg See?

Stupid Star Trek... why don't they just explain everything with ITZ BASICLY MAGIC if they're going to be so unscientific. :snobby:

Like I said, could be a mutation. If he was half human he wouldn't be able to have that much concentration of copper in his blood.

Or, since he's half and half, during the egg segmentation there could've been some genetic mixing were the codification for pigmentation cells and proteins were mixed so hemoglobin's iron and the copper mixed somehow and made him what he is :awesome:

Well yeah probably, but regular Vulcan blood is green too.

Actually his blood is LOTZ less green than regular Vulcan blood... so you are probably on to something there. Perhaps he has sort of a dual iron/copper blood transport system... but why would the genetic engineers on Vulcan do that? Why not just stick with one... so the issue of getting blood transfusions if he were sick wouldn't involve making a fucking blood cocktail whenever he scraped his knee or whatever.

On top of this... copper is SHIT for transporting oxygen, there's a reason only horseshoe crabs and octopi have it... so how would a full humanoid creature with strength reputed to be three times that of a human's evolve? Unless there's something funky in the Vulcan atmosphere that would make iron-based blood somehow ineffective (Lots of carbon dioxide?)... in that case, how would any offworlders survive on Vulcan, and how would any Vulcans survive with non-Vulcan ship's life support systems?

Jesus I am never going to join a Star Trek forum, I would die.

Copper must have some biomedical benefit, but I ignore it. I know that it's in the organism, and relation to W's disease, I'll try to see in my biochem book.

But yes, could be because of some "adaptation" process.
