Eh, I don't bother to remember everything in a thread. But they were pressured by the activists methinks so I kinda got a bit of it right.

Welcome, fellow Swedish person :inquisitive:

Don't they have dog in China also?

I also like the Killers :D Also Arcade Fire, Elbow, A.A. Bondy, Bob Dylan, some Radiohead. I like lots of other musicians but these are the ones I mainly listen to. Everybody I know thinks they're crap, but what do they know?

The Chinese government is now on the verge of introducing its first law against animal abuse and permanently removing both animals from the menu.

The first draft of the law, aiming to protect animals from being hurt and killed in a cruel manner, will be raised for legislation in April.

Uh, this was news to me =O

anyway, it's a BIG country. It'll take time to make the changes, and even more time before the message gets out. And then another 2 years before everyone is following it.

Google & Puff the magic dragon..

Only some pictures.. it's really strange.

I think that Google threatened to pull out of China even before the attack, beacuse they want internet to be open for everybody etc. But Google leaving China is actually good for the chinese govt, because then it will only be domestic webpages used for searching and they can keep a even better control then they do now. Don't really know what's going on between the U.S and China though ^^ Some say that it's only because the U.S is now feeling threatened by China, because they are growing and getting so rich now. I just don't know what to believe

That may be the case - Google's motto is to "do only good", which may not translate well into China's "communist" way of thinking. As the one interview I saw about internet freedom in China went, one young lady said "I think people are too free now." Hmm!:stunned: But most other Chinese people felt China should be more free, so at least the loyalists aren't quite as powerful as they used to be..

China's browser - what's it's name again - I recall the dog print beneath the name.. ? Anyhow, no doubt there will be the ever watchful Big Brother if Google does pull out, but then time may come when things open up again. What's your sense of it??

The U.S. needs China to keep buying bonds!:laugh3: So, I don't know if some of it is just political posturing, or the result of the economic slow-down (where countries get protectionistic during economic recessions.)? I don't know either - but it's unlikely anything really drastic will happen - we're too co-dependent on things - even computer chips, and China needs our corn chips:P.

Keep us abreast of it, and keep breathing fresh air!

Yeah many chinese people really think that they are free now, at least compared with how it used to be. Even though they're not capable of saying anything in the media it's still a lot better than it used to be. But you're correct, the number of people who are unhappy with the govt is growing more and more.

The name of the chinese webpage you're looking for is Baidu ^^

Yeah I don't really now either. But I think it's very possible that the U.S is feeling that it's status quo is jepoardised. Don't know really how this google-argument is going to help them with that though

This is asian reporter Tricia Takanawa, back to you, Tom ^^

Well, I suppose all things are relative! But I'm sure as people get more accustomed to the freedoms they have, they will want more. Or at least one can hope so!!

That's it - thanks! Baidu. Adieu Baidu.

Our status-quo is jeopardized, so we get huffy, eh!:laugh3: Well, let's just have an economic spitting match, and see who wins! Daffy or Marvin - I'm sure there will be an outcome!:P

But it's also major companies here who feel suddenly "threatened"- Boeing is worried about the new Chinese jets, and software companies, etc.

Google is feeling like their software have been pirated by China's government, and given the censorship, it's something the company isn't happy about. And it gives an ominous feel to anyone else doing business with software in China as well..

Tricia Takanawa - isn't that the reporter on the China news I see on satellite TV? Anyhow, nice to chat!

Yes it is. Met a man from Taiwan, and he feel so limited when he comes to mainland China, but his chinese friends still think they are very free ^^ everything comes down to what you're accustomed to

I see... well, we from the countries of the west only have ourselves to blame since we so bad want to invest in the expanding chinese market. If not every company would move their business here we wouldn't have this problem ^^ btw, I heard that Volvo has sold out to chinese owners =O that's the most swedish of the swedish thing there is haha

How true - all things are in relation to what we are familiar with..

That's right - I want the Chinese cabbage and chicken from the market too!:P Well, any thing that looks like it's growing fast attracts investors like flies.. markets solve everything - they tell me here on this site!:laugh3:

Volvo?:stunned: I'm really surprised! To Chinese owners??:stunned: What happens in Sweden to the plants there? Will the lunch counters start serving stir-fry chicken with peanuts and rice? Fortune cookies instead of retirement benefits?:laugh3: Where does this all end? Please don't tell me they're buying out Whole Foods Market!

Well as I said, I've heard that Volvo sold out, I'm not 100% sure they have.

And what will happen with the swedish plants, if that's the case, no idea haha. My boss was joking about the idea of chinese bosses coming here and starting to argue with the union hahah oh, it would be a mess..

HAHA fortune cookies :laugh3:

no but seriously, I'm guessing they'll move the production to China, step by step. I've already seen one Volvo factory here in Suzhou where I live. When we passed it I was like :shocked2:

Swedish Fortune Cookies

HAHA fortune cookies :laugh3: There's a fortune in each one!:):P

Will they move the Swedish workers along with it too?:inquisitive: Will it help if they bolt themselves to the machines?

Sounds like Volvo is going the route of everyone else, which is maybe not a good thing - just a brand, albeit still a great philosophy behind it.

One good thing - Chinese people will be getting a really safe car then!:laugh3: But what will the Swedish people drive now? Maybe borrow some reindeer from up north? What will there be for employment in Sweden?? Will Volvo keep it's heavy machinery division in Sweden? (one too many questions maybe...)

I think if you could just get them to mix the fortune cookie dough with some Swedish pancake mix - maybe that would be a better combination? (and less likely to separate once baked in an oven..)

The swedish workes will probably not go to china. As a boss, who would you rather hire? A person who demands at least 3,100 USD/month and expects social security or someone who'd go with 670 USD? ^^

nah but I really don't know much about this, from my side it's mostly speculation.

About the fortune cookie; I've never ever seen one in China. Ever.

Quite disapointing actually ^^

The swedish workes will probably not go to china. As a boss, who would you rather hire? Well, I might be able to speak Swedish if I were a Swedish boss, but Chinese? Cantonese? Mandarin? Lovely foods, but I would be hard pressed to speak their language!:laugh3: (and what can compare to Swedish dishes anyway?:chef:) Besides, if the workers remain bolted firmly into place-:builder2:-, they certainly won't be running off to somewhere else in China! Where would the Swedish workers go anyhow? I have seen them in the LEGO set, and once you snap them into place, they're there for the long haul!:P

But true - they might want wages and benefits, even though the quality of craftsmanship is superior, and they know how everything works..

A person who demands at least 3,100 USD/month and expects social security or someone who'd go with 670 USD? ^^

But the 3100 U.S.D. worker knows how to do things right (at least I'd hope so!), and the worker who walks on @ $670 U.S.D. is perhaps less ready for the tasks at hand.. but yes, the temptation of saving a bundle on worker costs is tremendous - it really is a huge part of the company's overall costs, I know..

nah but I really don't know much about this, from my side it's mostly speculation.

If the next Volvo you purchase has a sticking gas pedal, you'll miss those Swedish workers!!:laugh3:;)

Hmm! Perhaps a thing of the past - or maybe they just bake them for us Westerners? Yes, that is disappointing! But Hey, there's an export we can send them! - "authentic Chinese fortune cookies" - contents may be from one or more of the following countries: Brasil, Japan, Sweden, England, U.S.A., or the Marianas Islands. :P

What do they serve for desert?

What do they serve for desert?

Haha they don't =O if you're still hungry after the meal you ask for some rice, that's pretty much it (at least in the places I've been, it's a big country and I'm sure the custom varies)
