Buying a bass

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of learning bass. I'm really into the Paul McCartney melodic style of playing, so I would get a Rickenbacker, but I don't have $3,000. Does anyone know a good bass for this style? I've been looking at Hofners.

Well, I started with it 3 months ago and I only had 300€ max. (imagine who far is from me that bass...) and I bought a pack for 260 euros... which includes everything you need. I bought a ESP ltd b-10.

I don't know if that fits the sound you are looking for, but there are some other packs (Ibañez, Silverstone...)

And well you should ask in the place where you want to buy it... However, wait to get the answer of a more expert voice because as I've said I started 3 months ago and I really don't know much about it...:)

Why have you decided for the bass btw?

Like she ^ said! ESP is good to start with!

I started on a Richwoord Jazz bass, with a combo amp but was I can't exactly remember what the price was.

Probably around the 300 in total:)

It depends on what styles you like? Jazz basses can be used for everything.

Precision basses are more rock basses(like Guy Berryman uses) And jazz more for jazz/rock/blues/hardrock as Adam Clayton uses.

But the ex-bassist of Metallica(hardrock/metal), Jason Newsted, uses jazzbasses, and not 'metal' basses.

The best option for you: Go to the store and just try totaly different basses and buy the one you like, and what fits you the best.
