Reasons Why David Cameron Should Be Prime Minister

Featured Replies

Not the words of me I must stress but of that from a Facebook page. Makes for an interesting read.

Reasons why David Cameron should be the Prime Minister:

1) The Labour Party has been in power for around thirteen years and has become complacent and reactionary. The input of new blood into the government would bring fresh ideas as well as bring the Labour government to account for its failures. An example of a fantastic Conservative idea is the suggestion to allow the public to table bills in Parliament, if backed by one million petition signatories.

2) He isn't deluded by the idea that Britain can perpetually incur a massive budget deficit without any consequences. Opponents point to a legacy of 'Tory Cuts', but what they fail to mention is that those cuts were made essential by the Labour Party's ridiculous public spending. They are living in a dream world.

3) According to our opponents David Cameron's descent from aristocracy is a bad thing. Of course, this is just prejudice and should be completely abhorrent to all rational people.

4) David is a fan of The Smiths. Need I say more?

5) He projects a confident image and is an excellent communicator. This is in stark contrast to our current Prime Minister, who struggles to get his message across and is often socially awkward.

6) Just look at the reasons put forward on our opposing group's page. Mostly slanderous hate-mongering and prejudice. This is in itself a reason to support Mr Cameron.

7) He has had the best education available in the world, attending Eton and then Oxford University where he achieved 1st class honours in Philosophy, Politics & Economics...surely as appropriate subjects as there can be for a potential Prime Minister. While some may sneer at this 'privileged' background, that is simply inverted snobbery and should be considered as ridiculous as looking down on anyone simply because of their background rather than what they have to offer.

8) By voting for Cameron/Tories, you not only get David Cameron [obviously] but a heavy weight cabinet behind him : Ken Clarke, William Hague, Liam Fox, George Osborne, Michael Gove, Chris Grayling, Oliver Letwin, Francis Maude, Theresa May, Sayeeda Warsi and David Willetts to name a few! Take a look for yourselves at the embarassment that is the only realistic alternative : http://www.labour.org.uk/cabinet

9) Labour's HUGE spending increases (funded by increased taxes) have been used so inefficiently the gap between rich and poor in the UK is the widest since records began despite Labour claiming to look out for the poorer members of society.

10) The EU rebate of £3billion which Thatcher achieved was inexplicably given up by the current Labour government, meaning the UK now pays ~£12billion/year to the EU. The UK receives ~£6billion in EU spending meaning the UK's economic loss/year has doubled under Labour.

11) Gordon Brown managed to sell over 400tons of gold bullion (over half the country's reserves) at the lowest price gold had been for over 2 decades. In the 5yrs following the sell off, gold tripled in price...

12) Vote Tory/Cameron and you'll get Conservative policies, rather than Conservative policies stolen by the opposing parties.

13) The Conservatives listen to what the public want and put it into action believing in personal freedom rather than state nanny-ing. Brown's Labour could not care less what you the public think, only how long they can stay in power.

Remember the 2007 snap election that never happened because Brown/Labour were spiralling down in the polls?! Brown was never elected as PM and despite opinion polls showing the lowest confidence for a PM ever recorded, he still refuses to hold a general election despite the public and his own party making every effort possible to get the inept Brown out of office.

He has selfishly stayed on as PM for the longest period legally allowed while dragging the country (and the Labour Party even!) down with his incompetence.

The public did not ask/want ID cards; Labour went on regardless at great expense to us, the taxpayer. Bearing in mind this government's atrocious record with sensitive information, this proposal could also pose a great risk to everyone's security. The Conservatives have said they will not go through with this multi-billion pound waste of money.

The public wanted UK residency rights for Gurkhas; Labour did everything in their power to prevent this while Cameron was at the forefront of the campaign to secure the rights they so richly deserved.

The public wanted a say on the EU constitution; the Labour Party lied about giving the public their vote. The Conservatives promised to give the vote but it is sadly too late now as Labour's lies have meant the revised/rebranded version of the EU constitution is now legally in place.

Tony Blair said he'd serve a full third term when he was elected...more lies. Instead, the unelected Gordon Brown stepped in who refuses to allow the public to vote on a matter as serious as the leader of the country until he is forced to by law.

14) The country's economy is in absolute meltdown with Labour spending ~£200,000,000,000 of taxpayer money on things EXCLUDING financial interventions since 2007. Labour have increased national debt since 2001, LONG before any recession hit which has led to Labour having amassed so much debt that the UK now pays ~£35,000,000,000/year on interest payments alone (almost exactly the same as what we spend on Defence).

The Conservatives have a proven track record of sorting out public finances quickly and efficiently while still maintaining or improving frontline services. They do this by cutting out the unnecessary waste that seems to be part and parcel of every Labour administration and by drastically improving economic income. Just look at Boris Johnson's efforts in London or take Thatcher in 1979. Despite inheriting 'The Winter of Discontent' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_of_discontent) from Labour and the ensuing recession, Thatcher took the economy from £197,000,000,000 in 1979 to £561,000,000,000 in 1990. Despite the Labour caused recession which the Conservatives had to deal with (sound familiar!) national debt as % of GDP fell from 44% - 27% while at no point reverting to Labour's 44% which she inherited.

15) The banking crisis was caused by excessive bank lending. The excessive bank lending spiralled out of control under a Labour government with UK bank lending almost quadrupling between 2000-2008 to almost 4x the entire UK GDP :

http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/5584018/labours-free-for-all.thtml

The UK is the second largest banking sector in the entire world so claiming we are victims (rather than majorly significant contributors) is false, especially in light of the out of control growth shown between 2000-2008.

Conclusion : The Labour government failed to reign in UK banks' ridiculous expansion rate despite two different PMs and 7yrs in which to do it. Labour had every chance to do this but did nothing, happy in the fact that fictional profits were funding their wasteful spending (borrowing in reality as UK debt has increased since 2001, LONG before any financial interventions).

As for what the Conservatives would do? Refer to point 14) for what they've done historically or refer to :

http://www.conservatives.com/Policy.aspx

...for their plans with the current mammoth debt.

16) In March 2010 alone, Gordon brown misled the public on 3 separate occasions receiving stern warnings from the official departments concerned. These could be passed off as genuine errors were it not for the fact they happen so often and always to the benefit of Gordon Brown.

1. Misleading the public on... immigration

Gordon Brown was caught out misleading the public on immigration statistics. In a podcast, Gordon Brown argued that net inward migration has been going down for each of the last three years. To do this he used two different sets of statistics that should not be directly compared without caveats.

Now the independent UK Statistics Authority has reprimanded the Prime Minister by ruling that these statistics were not comparable, and warned him "not to mislead the public during the approaching general election campaign".

2. Misleading the public on... defence spending

Just eleven days earlier, Gordon Brown was forced to admit that he had misled Parliament and the Chilcot Inquiry about defence spending, whom he had told that the defence budget had increased every year under Labour.

But just days after the Chilcot Inquiry he was forced to admit that he was wrong. However, even his apology to the House of Commons was misleading: the defence budget was not cut "in one or two years" but on four separate occasions: in 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2007.

3. Misleading the public on... Labour’s policing pledge

Earlier the month, Gordon Brown claimed that people could expect their neighbourhood policing team to spend eighty per cent of their time on the beat. And a recent taxpayer-funded government advertising campaign pledged the same.

But the Advertising Standards Authority banned this pledge for being misleading. The pledge did not apply to all 140,000 police officers in England and Wales, only to the 13,500 neighbourhood constables and 16,000 community support officers who work in neighbourhood policing teams.

Ideally a conservative should recognize that the problem lies at the feet of Mervyn King, Britain's central bank president. If the UK were to peg the Pound to a certain weight of gold, even if that amount of gold is very tiny, it would instantly cause demand for the pound to skyrocket, as it will be the only major world-currency that isn't fiat. The British debt problem would no longer exist, the British peoples' purchasing power would increase dramatically, and as a result the quality-of-life for the average Briton would go up as well.

And best of all, it would reign in future spending-sprees by Labor if (and when) that party calls the shots again.

^ You would not if you lived in the UK!

It's a big mess but it looks like there will be a coalition with the Conservatives and Lib Dems!

It won't last long, though! They have such different policies on things such as Immigration!

The only people whom don't want the cuts is some of the overpaid and underworked public sector workers, whom would be out a job, and the work-shy.

What they should do is sort out the boundaries again, this time have a MP per a certain number of people, say for every 100K they have 1 MP, true some cities and areas will have more than 1 MP where some of the more rural areas will be spread, but if you look at the map large patches are blue with a tiny dot of red in

I find it shocking some of those figures though. I contemplated voting Labour a few weeks ago but as election got nearer I got more confident of David Cameron. I am disgusted at the fact that the bank lending figures have quadrupled under Labour considering this country is the 2nd largest banking sector in the world. I am ashamed. This country isn't a victim of the economic crisis. It was a prime culprit. I am also shocked to learn we pay the EU 4 times as much as we used to under the last Conservative administration. It's disgusting and has almost put me off the Labour Party altogether.
