My Official Stance on Coldplay

Well... I couldn't think of anything else. Bah.

Really

because here you bash the other team's players and call the umpires maggots (in AFL at least) but then again usually some of the fans are a bit buzzed

Presumably not if you're standing or sitting among the fans of the "other team", though, as that would be nothing short of "suicidal".:dozey:

You're allowed constructive criticism of Coldplay but in all seriousness when you just start making snide remarks against the band on here Briggins then you're not going to convince anyone.

Well at least he shouldn't then be "surprised" if he attracts negative comments, anyway.;)

I'm not really sure what you're pointing at.

In my opinion just posting "yawn" in the middle of a thread is a snide remark.

Briggins makes some very pertinent points.

True, there's nothing in the rules to say you have to be a Coldplay "fan" to be a member of Coldplaying or that you even have to like their music in any way whatsoever.

However, anyone who does frequent this forum should at the same time appreciate that Coldplay are the reason the board exists at all and that the vast majority of those posting here are going to be fans of the band.

This should therefore be taken into account and respected at all times.

It's natural that Coldplaying is going to attract hardcore fans of the band and "fangirls", and it's also to be expected some of them are likely to take offence and react if the band are being "attacked" for any reason.

To use a football analogy, if you are a Liverpool fan, for example, there is nothing that says you can't sit among the Man U fans when Liverpool play at Old Trafford.

However, if you did so, it would be advisable that you avoided saying or doing anything to provoke "the natives" unnecessarily.

Same goes for Coldplaying.;)

Finally some common sense, i had forgotten this was a coldplay fan website! anymore of i love you briggins and i was gonna throw up

My Official Stance on Coldplay

Hello Coldplayers, I am making this post after some of the conversations I’ve been involved with over the past few days. There are a few things I would like to state on my stance on Coldplay, and there are also a few things that I would like to tell some people on here.

I became a Coldplay fan in 2003 after A Rush of Blood to the Head. It was the Live 2003 show that sucked me in. They were showing it on CBC one night when I was extremely sick, so I watched it, recorded it, and loved it. When I was healthy enough to go to the store, I bought it. When X&Y came out, me and about 10 other students skipped out on grade 11 physics to go buy X&Y (or whatever other albums came out that day). It was an exciting experience. I was pretty obsessed with Coldplay in high school in the sense that I bought all their albums, downloaded all their b-sides, instrumental albums, acoustic songs, made dvds of live shows, music videos, acoustic sessions, etc. They were never my favourite band, but they were pretty special to me. After X&Y I just started to lose interest. By the time Viva came out Coldplay had moved down my favourite bands list quite a bit. Viva disappointed me. I don’t think its a horrible album or anything, I just never connected with it. It seemed like they were trying to hard to be awesome but losing the elements that made them awesome. I was glad they didn’t put out a safe album full of Clocks and the Scientist, but still wish I could have connected with the songs more.

I have definitely expressed my dissatisfaction on this website. I also have taken many opportunities to state that Radiohead are my favourite band and I prefer them to Coldplay for sure. I’ve also had many conversations with Coldplayers regarding Bono and U2. The two incidents in particular are when he called Chris Martin a ******, and in the World of Music section the thread regarding U2 having to pull out of Glastonbury. In all of these heated discussions, I was overwhelmed by the closed mindedness of a lot of people on this forum. People have made multiple personal attacks on both Bono and Thom Yorke and find it necessary to try to prove that Coldplay are bigger than U2 or that they are better than Radiohead. It has brought out the ugly side of many people. I’ve also been personally targeted by name callers and people who think they can intimidate me by insulting me. Unfortunately it did not work as they have left the forum and I have not.

So my point is, I’m not a Coldplay hater. And I think its pathetic that so many people on here get so up in arms as soon as anything criticizing Coldplay is said. It is not healthy to just listen to one band, or a small handful of bands and ignore all the wonderful music out there. There is more to life than Coldplay. And also it is OKAY to not like something by Coldplay. Its OKAY to say that you loved Parachutes but thought Viva wasn’t that good. You don’t have to go bonkers trying to convince people that Viva is a masterpiece and you’re wrong. You’re entitled to your own opinion. If everybody loved everything that Coldplay made and nobody criticized them, how would they be challenged to evolve as artists?

And another key point I would like to make: you don’t have to be the world’s biggest Coldplay fan to be part of this forum. People’s likes and dislikes change over time. When people join this site, chances are they do so because they like Coldplay. Sometimes people lose interest in things, including Coldplay. But they stay on the board because they have made friends, or like to chat in the lounge. Or in my case I am still here primarily to discuss other bands in the World of Music. Why don’t I just go join a U2 forum, or Radiohead forum? Well because I like talking about those bands with the people on this forum. They are my friends, so why would I want to leave?

I think people need to learn to respect other people’s opinions. Sure you may think Coldplay are the biggest band in the world, but there is no use in trying to tell me that or try to convince me of that. And so what, you don’t like Radiohead? Well that is no excuse to insult Thom Yorke and make fun of his lazy eye (the result of surgery as a child). If somebody thinks Coldplay is boring, well that is okay too.

Just try to keep a cool head, don’t jump to conclusions, don’t make things personal, and if you’re an overzealous Coldplay fangirl or fanboy get a life or figure out there is more to life than Coldplay.

Good post, and I'm the same as you in pretty much every way. Radiohead is definitely my favorite today, but Coldplay was at some point.

MY stance -

Coldplay are the best band ever. ALL of their songs are amazing. A rush of blood is the best album of all time and forever. Impossible to beat. They are the best live band in the universe (even though not all bands in the universe can be witnessed coldplay win by default due to sheer brilliance).

Viva is their weakest album but still better than any other bands best material.

Radiohead are amazing but compared with coldplay are like a lightbulb to the sun. U2 are a candle. Snow patrol are a lit match.

Chris martin is a musical genius. The Viva demos are better than anything ever by anyone ever.

i lol'd

what is all this fangirl bullshit?? and how is it "unhealthy" to listen to only coldplay? thats nonsense. you cant help it if one band is all you like. For the record i listen to lots of diverse music but i dont think there are any rules with regards to who you listen to. Music is an individual thing so nobody should feel ashamed for liking every coldplay song.

Also i think alot of people on here are agreeing with briggins to pretend they are not obsessed with coldplay. just be honest with yourselves, you clearly are. and so am I.

i lol'd again

^I don't even know who you are but you seem to hate me already.

I dont hate you, that would be ridiculous. I just dont know what you expect from a "coldplay" fan site. i wouldnt go onto a radiohead fan site and say, "hey radiohead are...ok but coldplay are sooo much better" this website is really for coldplay fans to discuss their admiration of coldplay. that being said i think its good to talk about other bands but the whole radiohead/u2 vs coldplay is really tiresome, i have to put up with it on youtube all the time and its annoying that its even on a coldplay fansite.

Ive been listening to alot of radiohead recently and they are very mediocre.....SEE ITS ANNOYING!, that was a joke, i have been listening to them a hell of a lot, hail to the thief is increadible
