.and even if it were shouldnt you respect someone elses opinion without telling them to "get a life"...to that i say, 14,500 posts? you first

:bigcry:

Nice post by the way, Briggs.

I like how rationally written your post is Briggins.

Honestly, I used to be one of those that likes Coldplay to the bones.

But when I stay in this forum long enough, it makes me realise that I was being really narrowminded by liking nearly everything that Coldplay does.

And believe it or not, those users who are very critical about Coldplay helped me to realise that.

And after that, I started to listen to other awesome musicians out there and realised that I've been missing a lot by narrowing my interest only on Coldplay.

Plus, the users that bashes Coldplay are normally the ones who love Coldplay as much as we do, and the way they do it is by being critical to their music. After all, their music is all that matters.

So sometimes, we do need people who bash Coldplay to knock some sense into our heads like they once did to me.

I agree. The most critical people are the best to listen to, as long as they don't go over the top.

You know, Briggins, while it probably both feels good to get this off your chest and it's probably good for people to read a well-thought-out piece on this part of the forum, I actually think it's really unfortunate that you even had to write this thing in the first place. For coherent thinkers and people who don't have their opinions so far up their asses that it powers their bodies, many of us were probably able to figure out your opinion about Coldplay even without reading this piece. I understand wanting to "clear your name" or whatnot, but for people who rarely step outside the sexy picture threads, I'm not sure how effective this will be. I hope for your sake that this has done some good, however.

As for you and I, hey - we disagree about Coldplay, but we agree about Radiohead or Metric or Arcade Fire or whatever, so we aren't ever completely at odds ends. (Heck, I don't think we've ever really had a big dispute about Coldplay, either. Then again, I'm not a prick about someone insulting my favorite band, possibly because I'm so dang used to it.)

It looked like you put a lot of thought into that, and mostly everything you said was right. When I first started going on this forum, all i listened to was Coldplay. Nothing else. And now I have a huge variety of musical taste thanks to everyone's suggestions :) That's why I love this forum.

I wonder if every fan forum has to go through this.

I wonder if every fan forum has to go through this.

the mgmt forum didnt.... but that forum is rather quiet

I kinda wish someone would have knocked some sense into me before, because maybe I would like Coldplay a lot now instead of having them overplayed because they were the only band I listened to all day every day for like a year. :\

In a way I think all this insulting and such should stay out of the Coldplay section and in all the other sections, but I also think since this is a section for Coldplay, we should all be able to talk about Coldplay honestly.

I wonder if every fan forum has to go through this.

surely they go through this, normally fans of an artist tend to listen to similar bands, support bands, similar genre. i mean here is not usual to find a metal fan, or a jazz fan, right?

and even with that there are fights involving different bands that ones like or dislike, which is so stupid in my opinion. if there's a band i don't like i don't waste my time trying to convince the fans on the board that they are wrong and much less i go insulting them, which sadly here happen at times.

btw well post briggs.

i think is normal as i think you said, that our likes change, most us joined in our teens, in high school time and people that age tend to get obsessed with something easily, as we grow we change our likes and preferences, but it won't mean we love or hate something 100% as when we were teens.

when the last two albums came out i remember i always said to any huge fan or huge hater of it, well you have another 3 albums to listen to, but say you hate or love the band for 1 album of 4,... :uhoh:

There's music other than coldplay? :shocked2::stunned::thinking:

BTW, I have an informal essay I need to hand in for english, can I use this rant? It's good enough to get me an A.

yawn

I have always listened to lots of different bands, so that's not an issue for me.

However, if people want to listen to Coldplay 24/7 I don't have a problem with that. Yes I like pretty much everything Coldplay have released, yes at times I'm a fangirl but I don't have a problem with people having different opinions to mine.

This is a forum for people to discuss all things Coldplay amongst other things, with discussions will come disagreements. I do hate it when it turns into people arguing though when they think their and only their opinion can be right. The world is a big place, open your mind a bit people ;)

Good post Briggins!

dear briggs,

i love you.

always, darce.

but seriously, your post pretty much said everything i've been wanting to say. it's wonderful to find a band like coldplay that you can "fall in love with," but it's even better to experience new artists everyday, and really see what other music has to offer.

I think that they have become too commercial and care more about the show rather than the music.

apart from my totally agreement to both posts, yours and briggins, this is my opinion too.

i still love to check out what they (coldplay) are brooding out next. this is why i come here every day and read that one or the other thread. but when a thread gets rude i stop reading because i (agree to briggins).

another thing that hit my eyes: when it comes about gwyneth and marriage good/marriage bad i noticed that the gossip writers are always right when mr. and mrs. martin/paltrow were spotted together in love and they always can go to hell when they are planning to divorce.

is it just me or why is that so?

I wonder if every fan forum has to go through this.

It's as if the board has a menstrual period at times

Smooth and ok... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT, apologies/aftermath actions, smooth and ok.... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT etc

Nice anallogy Emma.

Oh and for the record, the World of Music section is excellent for anyone wanting to find new music. People there are like the best kind.

briggins you are the most awesome person i know! i agree with all of this. and because of you i have listened to a lot of new music.

Coldplay are admittedly infected by too much fangirlism thanks to the song Viva La Vida.

Radiohead are infected by too much pretentiousness and the fact that if people don't like them their fans will start saying that you're not intelligent enough to like them.

U2 - perfect. They've done all the tricks in the box. More exciting than Coldplay and more diverse than Radiohead.

Briggins makes some very pertinent points.

True, there's nothing in the rules to say you have to be a Coldplay "fan" to be a member of Coldplaying or that you even have to like their music in any way whatsoever.

However, anyone who does frequent this forum should at the same time appreciate that Coldplay are the reason the board exists at all and that the vast majority of those posting here are going to be fans of the band.

This should therefore be taken into account and respected at all times.

It's natural that Coldplaying is going to attract hardcore fans of the band and "fangirls", and it's also to be expected some of them are likely to take offence and react if the band are being "attacked" for any reason.

To use a football analogy, if you are a Liverpool fan, for example, there is nothing that says you can't sit among the Man U fans when Liverpool play at Old Trafford.

However, if you did so, it would be advisable that you avoided saying or doing anything to provoke "the natives" unnecessarily.

Same goes for Coldplaying.;)

Well... I couldn't think of anything else. Bah.

Really

because here you bash the other team's players and call the umpires maggots (in AFL at least) but then again usually some of the fans are a bit buzzed

You're allowed constructive criticism of Coldplay but in all seriousness when you just start making snide remarks against the band on here Briggins then you're not going to convince anyone.
