Briggens, this is a great post and I admire your honesty. I agree with you. I am a huge fan of Coldplay, ever since Parachutes. But I don't like every little single thing about the band or what they have done. And while I think that Coldplay is the greatest band ever, I feel if they need to do more to earn more respect.

 

I listen to a ton of bands, and my opinion is that it is rather unhealthy to only listen to one band, or just a few. I also think that it is unhealthy to only listen to one type of genre. Regardless, I still think that Coldplay is #1.

 

I am one of the people on here that hopes that in the end Coldplay will be a well respected band and not only remembered for fangirls or anything like that. True, there are fangirls on here that are pretty cool and can have an intelligent conversation about the band, but some others don't. I can be fangirl-ish at times but usually I'm not.

 

 

Oh, and I don't really argue with people who say they don't like Coldplay. Unless they use the whole "their gay" thing.

 

Anyway, once again this is a great post!

My Coldplay-fangirlism has gone down quite a bit since I joined this site, mainly because the people on here suggested different bands for me to listen to (Mew, Radiohead, Snow Patrol, etc.) and I ended up loving a lot of the suggestions :nice: I think it's good to have an open mind about music in general.

Awesome post. I agree with all of this. Coldplay is my favorite band, and VLVODAAHF is my favorite album, but I still completely agree. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. Who cares which album you like best? And who cares whether you'd prefer to obsess over Chris or Thom or Bono or none of the above? No one should care. You made really great points here. I hope everyone will take them to heart.

YEAH, This is a really good post , I agree, I think there's not much to add to this , but it is true, actually a couple of weeks ago Richard Hughes from Keane said something really interesting:

he said too that is ok if you don't like everything the bands do or that it is ok too if you like everything your fav bands do , the thing is that we as music lovers start to like or not like the songs (which , I thing is the main attractive thing about bands, not just how handsome they are, I am not saying is bad to thing maybe they are sexy or something, I mean it's just a plus isn't it?) just because we like them not just because they are from certaing bands or certain genres, our just beacuse the bans or artist is famous at the moment, we should be close-minded for a reason you have said: Because they are so meny good bands, good recors and good songs around there!!!, thanks to this forum I started to listen to more artists, like Radiohead, Blur , MGMT, Mew and others and that's why this forum is awesome than others BECAUSE WE HAVE DIVERSITY,and there's a lot of people in here that are respectful and others who aren't so please do a favour to all of us included you people: Coldplay is not everything nor is Radiohead nor is U2!!!! Coldplay are the best band ever. ALL of their songs are amazing. A rush of blood is the best album of all time and forever. Impossible to beat. They are the best live band in the universe (even though not all bands in the universe can be witnessed coldplay win by default due to sheer brilliance).

Viva is their weakest album but still better than any other bands best material.

 

Radiohead are amazing but compared with coldplay are like a lightbulb to the sun. U2 are a candle. Snow patrol are a lit match.

 

Chris martin is a musical genius. The Viva demos are better than anything ever by anyone ever.

If you could read you would see the point of this isn't to hide your Coldplay love. In fact people agreeing are for the most part big Coldplay fans, have made that pretty clear, and aren't ashamed of it.

But when I stay in this forum long enough, it makes me realise that I was being really narrowminded by liking nearly everything that Coldplay does.

And believe it or not, those users who are very critical about Coldplay helped me to realise that.

And after that, I started to listen to other awesome musicians out there and realised that I've been missing a lot by narrowing my interest only on Coldplay.

Plus, the users that bashes Coldplay are normally the ones who love Coldplay as much as we do, and the way they do it is by being critical to their music. After all, their music is all that matters.

 

So sometimes, we do need people who bash Coldplay to knock some sense into our heads like they did to me.

Yes I can read and i get what you are saying. I agree with what you said about not connecting with the songs on viva and that it's ok not to like everything by coldplay but i take issue with what you said about it being unhealthy to listen to just one band... As i said before i dont listen to just one band but there are no rules when it comes to music. Im sure people that only listen to coldplay have heard other music in their lifetimes but if they dont like it...then they dont like it...its unfair to label them "unhealthy" because of your particular views.

 

Also I agree that people should be more tolerant of other peoples musical tastes and should never insult someone over it...that should really go without saying. This should also apply both ways to the people that love coldplay just a bit too much.
