Best albums of the year ...plead for 2003-2007

Featured Replies

I really wish music was good as it was during the UK post punk /1980s revival some seven years ago (2003-2007)...we had it all then, from franz ferdiand to snow patrol...everything seemed so fresh.

Now it seems blah blah blah. I know that I may not be looking in the right places but could someone please name a few or make a list of some great bands and music coming out this year? 2009 counts too, I suppose.

Somebody please spin my perspective and prove to me that this is a worthy year in music so far...

2010? :stunned: Are you kidding me? It's one of the best musical years in recent time! (or at least since '08) Take a peek at the 2010 Albums Worth Listening To thread. :awesome:

My favs of this year:

Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me

Broken Bells - Broken Bells

Frightened Rabbit - The Winter Of Mixed Drinks

The Pineapple Thief - Somebody Here Is Missing

Though, I'm more Indie/Psychedlia so they might not be to your taste :P

2006 has got to have been my favourite year of recent times but this year is shaping up to be great :)

MGMT- Congratulations

Vampire Weekend- Contra

The Drums- The Drums

The Courteeners- Falcon

...are some of my faves of this year :)

Plastic Beach.

+1

Forgot that one! I only started listening to it the other day but it is AMAAAAAAAAZING!

Teen Dream - Beach House

High Violet - The National

Total Life Forever - Foals

Odd Blood - Yeasayer

Have most of those listed. Many are good, some are not. None of them are great.

I've grown to become a big music snob, I guess. That doesn't mean the suggestions should stop.

Innerspeaker - Tame Impala

Swim - Caribou

Go - Jonsi

edit: Also, it hasn't come out yet, but the Arcade Fire album is going to blow everybody out of the water. Calling it now.

How could you not think any if not all of the albums that have been posted are not great?

^Cos he/she has his/her own opinion?

Exactly.

And hey, that doesn't mean I don't respect the bands mentioned either!

I'll never know why people suddenly become combative when it comes to taste in music.

Hey, you may have misunderstood me. I wasn't challenging your opinion or anything like that. It was just a rhertorical question expressing how great I think this year in music has been

i think you'll find that people on here, paticularly in 'world of music' tend to be quite passionate and somewhat protective of this era of music. most us are here are between 13 and 25 so this is truly "our" generation so its a little personal to us so naturally we feel a little threatened when people bad mouth it. i havent been around the music scene for too long so im not sure how previous generations of music were received but it sometimes feels as though this era cops alot more flack than it deserves.

I never "bad mouthed" it.

Defensive is the right word, not threathened.

None of that matters with this specfic posting anyway. I assumed too quickly. Fin.

The UK music scene hasn't excited me since that period you are talking about.

But since that time there have been some great and exciting things coming out of Canada and the United Sates.

do you honestly believe franz ferdinand and snow patrol were fresh?

franz ferdinand had an edge to them but after five or six listens there's nothing particularly special about them.

and the best bits of 2003-07 was not the post punk revival. it was freak folk and things like antony and the johnsons, radiohead and portishead.
