I miss swimming SO much.

Featured Replies

I quit because I was sick of the competition. I was so sick of taking about 3 hours out of my day to train to beat a bunch of girls who were bigger and stronger than me and had actual athletic talent at a piddling race. I thought I had better things to do with my time (I do, but not enough discipline anymore to do them :/).

But now I MISS SWIMMING SO MUCH. I miss the activity, not so much the competition. But I even miss that a little bit. No it isn't worth 3 hours of my day... but... agh I just miss everything about it. I miss jumping into a freezing pool on a chilly morning and screeching. I miss doing butterfly. I miss going like 30 seconds without breathing. I miss it SO much. I miss doing butterfly kicks after doing flip turns. I miss streamlining. I miss it I miss it I miss it. I miss doing breaststroke, which I had REALLY good technique at. I miss sprinting. I miss doing long distances and wanting to die after a few minutes. I miss the post-exercise happy feeling I got after an average workout. I miss cramming like a pound of pasta into my mouth after practice. I miss stretching before practice with our crazy-flexible Russian coach. I MISS IT SO MUCH. :bigcry: But I don't want to go back to my old swim team, for the aforementioned reasons I listed about competition. BUT I MISS IT :bigcry: SO MUCH :bigcry:

I guess I will swim for my school still. My dad said last year that next year he would never drive me to school team swim practices, so I don't know if he really will or not. :/ If he won't I may go back to my old team.

Y'all can comfort me now :nice:

You failed as a swimmer Sara. Just suck it up and get on with your life.

Okay I'm joking. I really think you should do the whole swimming thing again. Especially that from the sound of it, you're quite good at it.

Plus swimming's a lot of fun :nice:

If you enjoyed it that much then it's probably worth it!

I can empathise with you though, I've been riding horses my entire life, and just this year I've had to give it up completely for my studies. And I miss it like crazy, not just the riding, but the horses themselves (of course) and the whole lifestyle that comes with it :bigcry: :bigcry:

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL

I understand, Sara. My junior year, due to everything else that was going on in my life, I was forced to give up my piano lessons. I didn't miss the way my teacher picked at how I used the wrong fingerings on the keys, but I missed playing and performing for other people. I still play piano because I love it, but I'm not as serious as I used to be.

Can't you just swim for fun? That's nice too, I think.

Yeah that's basically what I want to do, I want to swim for exercise. But I miss the discipline of always doing it at a certain time, etc.

Plus I would have to get a pool membership...

Maybe your parents want to pay for that! You can say you want to keep fit. And find somebody who wants to join you, then you must go otherwise the other one must go alone.

If you have a swimming pool which does "lane" swimming where you have to swim going up and down the pool it's better than normal swimming because you get less idiots standing in the middle of the pool

Er... I know that...

I feel the same way about playing violin. Except I didn't exactly quit; my parents couldn't afford to pay for lessons anymore.
