Canteen/Cafeteria food ...

Featured Replies

The school my kids go to used to have a pretty awful menu - chicken nuggets and microwave heated mini pizzas and lasagne, etc.

So last year a group of parents (including myself) decided to run it. We made everything from scratch, and had healthier options. We had sausages in a bread roll, but we would cook up about 7 different vegetables, puree it and take it to a butcher where they would mix that into the sausage mix. The kids loved them - and they didn't even know they were getting vegetables! :sneaky:

Same with the pizzas we made. Pita bread with a pureed vegetable base and then the toppings. We also put heaps more salads in the burgers, sandwiches and wraps.

And we got rid of all the lollies and chocolates. Because we're mean.

A lot of teachers even ordered the food because it was better than it had ever been. Unfortunately we just couldn't get enough people to volunteer for just the 2 days a week that it was open, so it's leased out again. Not a fan of the food they have now. :dozey:

I pretty much love my school canteen's food. Loads of local food here, of course, and what a variety (local food = variety). This year's menu has been awesome. I hope they don't change the caretakers!

my cafeteria food since grade school... not that bad.

Not the most delicious stuff I've ever had but it's quite eatable.

i love our cafeteria food when i was still in school. i am kind of missing it now. :wacky:

I've only eaten at my university's cafeteria once, and that was because I wanted to have lunch with my "big bro." I paid way more than what I should have to eat there. It wasn't bad, and I could eat as much as I wanted, but it's not nearly as good as what I eat at home.

On a side note, the raspberry ambrosia was one of the most legit things I had eaten in recent times.

I'm not eating at my school cafeteria that often, cause now I can go out at lunchtime and go lunch somewhere out with my friends. But the food there is extremely good for a school cafeteria. It was spaghetti bolognese today  sooo good!
