Darlene_Ihnfsa
So, since i mentioned to Jady some weeks ago -if i keep listening them after a couple weeks i'll open them a thread-, i'm sure there are more fans of them here. They are a french band formed in 1981, who have released more than 10 studio albums. which one is your fave album or song? I heard about them first time around 3 years ago, through Brian Molko's colab for Pink Water [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCBJTtVt4vQ]YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.[/ame] And kinda followed more since the new album came out, La République des Meteors. I yet have to check more about their 80's stuff. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYJ-AtYMCAE]YouTube - Little Dolls-INDOCHINE live Virgin 17 Session[/ame] If you heard about them and dislike them, you can also try to convince me why they are no good. :P

loudefix
I don't like them too, I just like the song '"l'aventurier". That's a fun song. But I've got a lot of friends that are big fans, I'll never understand why  [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il1S4WP6DlY]YouTube - indochine l'aventurier[/ame]
a-chan
Indochine is actually the only french band that can fill stadiums in here! And their crowd is really diverse, you can find 50's year men looking like bank managers and emo kids next to each others XD! It's quite rare for a french band to have stayed +/- on top for so long. They went to a rough patch in the 90, especally when Stéphane (Nicolas' twin brother) died. They became 'sucessfull' again this past decade with Paradize. I'm not a big fan of them but I grew up listening to them on radio, you can't escape Indochine in here...^^ I like their songs. Never seen them live though, I should one day. Their most 'iconic' songs from the 80's (lot of synthethizers xD I'm not a big fan of this period of their career...) 'L'aventurier' (the adventurer) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il1S4WP6DlY]YouTube - indochine l'aventurier[/ame] 3e sexe (about transexuals, very tolerant song) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKBvsbxdWRE]YouTube - Indochine - 3eme Sexe[/ame] Trois nuits par semaine (3 nights a week...a song about a man making love to his girl 3 times a week) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvnvY0uHNgY]YouTube - Indochine"3 nuits par semaine"[/ame] From their most recent work (you have to watch the clips on YT, the integrated mode is off :/) I love 'j'ai demandé à la lune' (I asked the moon). the lyrics are amazing. Darlene_Ihnfsa
perrine how you saw them if you don't like them? yeah a-chan, i find 'weird' their 80's stuff after knowning the lastest works, sounds so different. having very variated range of fans is pretty cool, imo, specially if they are well all together. :)
a-chan
yeah a-chan, i find 'weird' their 80's stuff after knowning the lastest works, sounds so different. Yeah, but they are a reflect of that time but they manage to evolve for the better like Depeche Mode or A-Ha :) having very variated range of fans is pretty cool, imo, specially if they are well all together. :) I think that Nicolas' emo look (the dude is around 50 I think) is a big part of that 'mixing'. Plus their 'new' sounds is radio frendly so they're played a LOT on every stations hence, a big popular fanbase :) Plus, as I said, they are an iconic band here...there are very few french rock bands and even less successfull ones at this scale! Darlene_Ihnfsa
yeah i noticied that about the look, does he always had that one? i can't avoid to  a bit when i see some old vid of them due to the differences in looks. good that they evolved, thing is if the new fanbase will be as good and keep on liking them as much as the oldies, or not. hopefully coldplay fanbase gets as good with the time. :) so they are pretty known just in France? or in french speaker countries in general? i did some research in spanish and seems there's few, i just found an official board which is so quiet with -40 users there. :\ I doubt they come to play here. about what you said before, i imagine that Stephane's pass away was a big shock for the band, right? As i didn't knew them before at times i wonder how he did influenced the band, forming it and after. btw and i can understand people dislike them, it might be as if someone ask me about some 80's band from here, i probably would say they are old and so overplayed. :uhoh:

As far as I remember, yeah, he always had that look... XD There is even a very famous parody of them by a troup of french comedians where they mock their 80's sound and attitude. The fake song is called 'Isabelle has blue eyes' (parody of 'partenaire particulier) and the lyrics are basically: a girl name Isabelle with blue eyes that bumped her head on a wall cause she walked at night :laugh3: (during the fake ITV, they said that the lyrics are deep and meaningful...and at the end, they say that they create a new song totally different called..'Gwendoline has green eyes'...lol) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7qq71FYT_8]YouTube - 2. Les Inconnus - Isabelle a les Yeux Bleus[/ame] :laugh3: It's never get old and kinda true...XD so they are pretty known just in France? or in french speaker countries in general? No idea... In here, I think you can compare them (in terms of show scale, popularity etc...) to Muse in the UK or A-ha in Norway. Every tour is a big event and they're everywhere on the radio. i did some research in spanish and seems there's few, i just found an official board which is so quiet with -40 users there. :\ I doubt they come to play here. I checked they tour timeline on their website and they never been to Spain :/ Only Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg...and odd places like Perou or Vietnam! about what you said before, i imagine that Stephane's pass away was a big shock for the band, right? As i didn't knew them before at times i wonder how he did influenced the band, forming it and after. I was too young in the 80's so I don't know how he influence the band at the time but their sound changed after his death. But his passing wasn't a big shock cause he was sick for years. btw and i can understand people dislike them, it might be as if someone ask me about some 80's band from here, i probably would say they are old and so overplayed. :uhoh: It funny cause they're not seen as a 'has been' band...on the countrary, listening to 'Indo' (as we say here) is still view as 'cool' and for every generation...which is kinda remarquable for a career that long! Darlene_Ihnfsa
 at the parody  so i get it can get annoying they be so played and so. :\ sadly no surprise about no tour here, i have the feel now France is so unknown in general. i hope they still come play here once. :) well i don't find so odd they play in Vietnam, after all they are named as an asian country. oh i didn't knew he was sick for years, but i do noticied it changed the sound. in fact the album where he was working sounds different the tracks he didn't composed. that is good, not many bands can say so. thanks a lot for the info, soz if i asked way a lot. :uhoh:
a-chan
sadly no surprise about no tour here, i have the feel now France is so unknown in general. Yeah, but I guess you can say the same thing about any 'non-english' language band on their impact worldwide... :dozey: On the other hand, french isn't really a language that's sound good in 'rock' songs...dunno, it's just weird  well i don't find so odd they play in Vietnam, after all they are named as an asian country. +1 and if I remember correctly, they did a DVD for that show... oh i didn't knew he was sick for years, but i do noticied it changed the sound. in fact the album where he was working sounds different the tracks he didn't composed. Yeah, he got Hepatitis. thanks a lot for the info, soz if i asked way a lot. :uhoh: no prob :) but I'm not an expert of them AT ALL...! But as I said before, you can't really escape them even if you want to...lol

But as I said before, you can't really escape them even if you want to...lol there was a time in the 60's, 70's when french music was a bit more known, at least the kind of melodies, what was said chanson and so, but that's it, not much came here after that. :uhoh: i got to know some myself just researching a bit for curiosity cause i don't think France don't produce any music after all. May be you are right, i liked it more in kind of chanson songs than rock music. Yeah the one with Hanoi orchestra, right? awesome concert. thanks for answering even if you don't like them much :)

Erm, yes.. Sirkis' singing was kinda awful, and this has nothing to do with the band but the fans scared me ^^
Darlene_Ihnfsa
i never heard of that one before :embarrassed: that sounded a great lot of bands  too emo-like fans? :uhoh:
*Perrine*
It's not like it's a big big festival though  Yeah, all dressed in black and some of them with Sirkis' hairstyle, found that a bit pathetic^^ Plus it's not like they're all young lol But it's not all about looks, they were kinda disrespectful for the other bands
Darlene_Ihnfsa
not big big and they bring florence? :o wait, were oldies with emo-look? :uhoh: well disrespect, i think it happen in many bands fanbase. :\
