International Baccalaureate (?)

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone of you studies International Baccalaureate (IB) or the IB MYP (Middle Years Programme) ? :)

If yes, how are your Extended Essays or Personal Projects? How are you guys dealing with CAS and TOK? Let's share our experiences! :)

I study Engineering, sorry

wat

heh...yea, i guess its understandable for insiders only :D

Anyway...IB is a huge chain of schools all over the world with about a million of students, which delivers the same high-quality education just anywhere you go...

You can check out more at http://ibo.org/ :)

me, we don't do anything for TOK, I don't know what the fuck to do for CAS and god knows I'm not starting my EE before this summer

IB is a total bitch, seriously the hardest thing I've ever done. so hardcore. Although all of it is easy except for my English teacher, because I love my English teacher and all but he's batshit insane with the amount of work he gives us

Yeah everyone has to do 150 hours of CAS. I think since nobody ever knows what the hell to do or how to do it everyone just bullshits them 3 days before they're due.

I'm looking into doing my EE in math but I don't know what exactly to like, do it on. at all. ... >.>

Lots of abbreviations ITT

With a name like International Baccalaureate you know there's gonna be a bunch of abbreviations. :P

My high school didn't have IB, but I got a letter from another school "encouraging me to transfer so that I could take part in the IB program". But I didn't go.

My school had AP though. I'm not sure how different the two are.

I've just finished my IB... my school has IB MYP, but then has the regular education system for seniors. So, after getting the IB worked out, I have to do something else now :\

Most of the stuff you're talking about I don't remember doing... the PP I did - I wrote a short story that was pretty crap.

They're pretty different. You know how AP is kind of hard? IB is like somebody violently nailed 187634 testicles to the AP program to give it massive balls, gave it a physiological addiction to caffiene, gave it a very strong liberal internationalist flavor, added a bunch of pretentiousness as well as to be fair way more depth, and simply laughed in the face of multiple-choice tests where you can memorize a bunch of shallow facts and get by and replaced them with pages-long essays that must be written on demand with depth and understanding and amazing eloquence in order to even pass. Also it teaches you to be elitist (like I am being in this whole paragraph) but usually one who at least knows a bit about what they're talking about but also to "respect other thought methods" ie listen to other elitist people who kind of know what they're doing so it's basically exactly like university-based academia.

I'm basing my comparison off 2 AP classes I actually took as an underclassman b t dubs, plus I have a good impression of what AP is like besides that. So I'm not just pulling this out of my ass fyi.

I am not in full IB, but yes I do take some IB classes ( 4 out of 6 of my classes are IB, those being Visual Art, Anthropology, LA, and Math studies.)

Out of curiosity, what made you guys to make the decision to take full IB? I know people who take it for horrible reasons- because they think it makes them look elite, because they want to impress people, or for some twisted reason they think that it is the only way to get accepted to colleges.

And @ hotdensestate, I couldn't agree more with your response to that other poster. IB pisses me off, mostly because of the people in the classes. They think they know everything, they get extremely offended easily, they go WAY to in depth with some things...

And people I know act like there is something horribly wrong with me. According to them, if you are not in full IB, you aren't good enough. Period. I just don't get why these people made the decision to make their lives a living hell, and they blame it on others when the reality is that it's their damn fault. Anyway, that's how it is where I live... sorry for the complaint lol.

Because, as I live in Slovakia, it gives me an opportunity to study in English, and also it's the only way to get accepted to high-rated foreign universities... it's far more difficult when you apply from a regular Slovak school....

Nothing concerning elitism.... not many people over here know IB

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding whether to choose IB next year or not :disappointed:

I want to study IB, because well..it's all in english, but then again, I feel like it's going to be too much english for me. Like, english at home and school? I'm not going to be able to speak norwegian as much as I used to :dozey: And I have this fear that I will somehow forget how to speak norwegian because of that.... even though I've lived here my whole life ( - 5 years )
