Rudy needs ideas for his music class presentation

Featured Replies

I need some suggestions about what can I do for my 10-minute presentation.

The choices are:

  1. Playing any instrument/s
  2. Singing
  3. Related musical skills (e.g. dance)
  4. Oral presentation
    • Music in general
    • Favorite singer/band/composer
    • Anything related to music

Combination of these choices are allowed.

I'm planning to play guitar but I only can play basic chords like A, Am, C, D, Dm, E, Em, F, G and a few others. :|

And I need recommendations for my oral presentation topic. :|

you could try to base it with geography?

i remember when in high school i had to do a similar thing with Classic Culture subject, i had to find songs from the ones i know that are related in some way with ancient Athens/Greece or Rome/Roman Empire... i ended finding a good 3, i read the lyrics, played the song in a radio and explaining the connections, most mines were related to war, democracy and wine.

you could also pick a country and presentate the flok/traditional music, show the evolution or something.

if you say the subject is related with Geography thing... it would make sense.

This presentation basically has nothing to do with geography at all :P

But your idea is quite good :surprised:

well if presentation subject is mainly free as you showed here, i'd do that, or the pick a country or the geography thing.

or i would show the influence that music does in society.

good luck with it rudy, tell us how it goes.

*gigglesnort*

I would probably be up there the whole class going on and on. :|

I now feel like writing an essay on him for fun, what is wrong with me. :|

I still have plenty of time to prepare, it'll probably will be conducted in April.

But I really find your idea interesting. I think it would attract my lecturer's interest too. Thanks Ari

Lol. :|

Hey actually I had this idea to talk about indie rock, but it'd be really cheesy :wreck:

I even had an idea to talk about Coldplay and play some of their songs on guitar. :|

What about modern folk rock? :cheesy: I could talk about Beirut, Fleet Foxes and Fanfarlo for 10 minutes, but I am sure my classmates will be like :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

I was just about to suggest that actually. :P

DO EHT

your oral presentation can be about anything?

since I have the impression you are mainly interested in "popular" music (not classical, or music theory or whatever) you should choose this topic, because it can be so much fun working on something you have a lot of interest in.

it must be hard to choose something to talk about though since it can be about anything and there is so so much to talk about when it comes to music.

choosing your favourite bands from a specific genre could be a good idea.....your class mates might be like :blank::blank::blank:, but on the other hand there could be some who are interested in learning something new....and even if there is nobody who is interested you shouldn't give a damn haha...

I try to think of some other things you could talk about and let you know

It can be about anything.

Option 1: Talking about classical/theories. This would be a good idea, but it could be too technical and I might have difficulties when I do the research about it and probably my presentation will be so dull.

Option 2: Talking about favorite bands/music that I like. This would be advantageous for me, but again, people would go :|:|:| But at least I like it, and I would probably have the eagerness when I deliver my presentation.

But so far I think I'd go with option 2, because there are three or four music major students in my class, and they should have known about classicals and theories.

Alright, let me know if you have some other ideas. Thanks Julia :lips:

ok rudy, you have pretty 3 months ahead to prepare it well. ;)

*joins his class to see his Beirut + Fleet Foxes + Fanfarlo presentation *

:bomb:

you should definitely go for option 2 then.

I hate to talk about stuff I actually have no clue about ...I have done that far too often at school (and at uni eventhough I chose the subject I studied myself:facepalm:)

Can you carry a tune?

If those were my options I would pick a favourite band, butcher a song, and then give a brief overview of the band and their genre's history.

So with Fleet Foxes I would talk a little about the band and their style, a little about them recording their album, a little about their peers, like Beirut and Bon Iver and their place in the American indie scene, a little bit about the history of American folk music- like the old fashioned folk, how it developed into the blues and then rock, how folk resurged in the 60's and how the indie scene picked it up again- and I would play a song of theirs or two.

If you keep all your sub-topics brief, the range of material and the pace that you switch from thing to thing will fill up the 10 minutes without you ever droning on long enough to make people bored.

Fanfarlo

yessssssssssss

Pick a topic you like (geography or whatever), pick a key to play it in and play around with different chords. /such a help

If I were you I'd do an interpretive dance just saying~~
