New computer = New iTunes library

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of getting a new laptop after my last one was stolen. This obviously means a new iTunes library. Will I have to go down the whole process of having to download all my cd's onto it once again or can I just plug in my current iPod touch and will it just transfer all the songs onto the new empty library? I know that when I buy songs from the iPod app on my iTunes and then plugged it in my old laptop it would ask if I want to transfer songs that aren't currently on the library. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Not sure if this is really the same kind of situation, but I'll tell you what happened to me a few months ago.

My iTunes library/account was on my home pc. My husband then bought an iPad and starting syncing his iPad to it for his own iTunes and things got all jacked up. So I decided to just use my work computer for that purpose. I downloaded iTunes on my work computer, and I wanted to do just what you want to do... put my iTunes library from my iPod onto the iTunes I now had on my work PC. I COULD NOT GET IT TO DO WHAT I WANTED. It says you can sync it with up to 5 computers, but no matter which syncing option I chose, the end result is that pretty much everything got wiped out when I re-synced it (except for the songs I purchased from iTunes, of course).

Hopefully someone will have some good advice for you so you don't have to go through the same.

you can download the songs from your ipod.

If you use the program senuti (it's itunes backwards) you can download the songs from your ipod

You can't do it with iTunes. It's for copyright protection, because technically it's illegal to do so (I don't remember the specifics).

Technically under UK copyright law by copying the mp3 files onto the iPod your breaking the law. As there isn't any fair-use written into the old outdated laws.

As for iTunes, once you've managed to get the tracks back from the iPod, buy yourself an external hard-drive and do a back-up of your music/video/picture files onto it, that way you have an easy to access back-up in case the hard-drive breaks or the computer gets stolen

i believe that ipod could transfer songs or even more than that like photos and stuff onto the itunes itself.. and it worked so well.. :)

hope this helps.
