What is your opinion of people who DON'T like Led Zeppelin?

Featured Replies

Yes maybe 'talentless' was harsh, they were/are great musicians, but I still think they had no creativity.

But listening to them makes them sound talentless, why are there so many mistakes on guitar/drums/bass on album recorded songs? It sounds like it was recorded in a fucking garage.

I think they were creative in being able to come up with many famous guitar riffs (though they have been known to borrow or be influenced by others) and as I said having a unique chemistry together especially when playing live.

well I do admit that Page was a very sloppy guitar player. I mean honestly I'd rather him play a more meaningful or soulful solo like say Gilmour or Clapton, but I still think he was great.

I think honestly that was the kind of sound they were going for at least initially. Get a grungy, dirty, bluesy feel to them. at least that's how I see it

There are a few signature riffs but really, most of the riffs or arpeggios Jimmy Page uses are throwaways, like Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, very basic arpeggio followed by very basic distorted riff.

Calm down Reillo :surprised:

Even tho I dislike them, it doesn't mean that they are shit. Maybe it's just because that's the way you see it. I respect your opinion, and as many people would (and should) But you could do the same for those who actually like them.

It's like your stating as a fact that they are shit.

._.

I think you misunderstood my posts, I was stating that I actually DONT like Led Zeppelin. Chya what's a guy gotta do.

Exactly D: I said "respect those who actually do like them" so, you don't.

I don't know why you always need to debate with these random slightly ignorant people lulz, like that guy that likes Avril Lavigne, where did he come from? And this guy.. I've never seen him.

Anyways, no matter what these people will never admit they're wrong.

I think that because blues has a sloppy tinge to it, that's probably why Page sounds sloppy. Because that's how he wanted it.

But I'm definitely not an expert.

/don't listen to me

It's too bad, I'm listening to you.

Can't you just feeeel the listening?

Haha I was kidding in my previous post, just outlining how many times I've said I don't like them.

And wtf? Mike's not slightly ignorant and he posts here all the time, and we're not even having a heated debate (As far as I'm concerned). I don't see how I was being disrespectful towards anyone, and I don't want anyone to 'admit they're wrong' because they aren't, it's opinions.

I thought I'd highlight that Page is well renowned for making some classic riffs, and I think because of this people tend to think that he churned them out for fun when from 90% of the songs I've heard there's nothing special. But maybe Mike disagrees and thinks they do have lots of classic riffs, I don't know which ones, but fine, we'll leave it at that.

As for the HBK Avril loving guy (Honestly wut?! ur psts cnfzin) I think I actually laughed it off at first but he specifically PMed me politely for me to post my thoughts- haha I'm not making that up, I've reposted some of his increasingly angrier PM's that he continued to make to me. For me I just imagine people like that go through their day acting absolutely stupid and deluded but they don't have anyone to point out how retarded they are being, it's interesting to see if a person can accept this. But generally if I see something I disagree with I'll usually let it be known, or 'sticking my nose where it doesn't belong' as people often say when they don't have a clue how to justify themselves.

Oh, okay.

No, I'm not talking about Mike the ignorant slut, I mean the other Navegador guy.

Well, in this post your making it all polite, you did just say a couple of harsh things that you took back. And maybe you see it as a NICEHAPPYSUNNY debate, others seem offended.

You just need to know who to poke, because you do make good points, but some people might not consider it, and they'll just swallow it as "THIS IS SHIT AND FINAL"

yaknowwattaayemeeen.

All this thread does is get non-Led Zeppelin related songs stuck in my head. :|

OPINIONS ARE IMMUNITY TO BEING TOLD YOU'RE WRONG; PAPER, ROCK, AND SCISSORS THEY ALL HAVE THEIR PROS AND CONS11111111111

/totally relevant and stuff

I can see how people would like Led Zeppelin, but yeah.

Well, in this post your making it all polite, you did just say a couple of harsh things that you took back. And maybe you see it as a NICEHAPPYSUNNY debate, others seem offended.

You have no idea how frustrating this is but often I get PM's from people telling me to go easy on someone and stop being harsh or rude, and then I simply ask where exactly I was harsh or rude, and I never get a response. The only remotely harsh thing I said was something along the lines of 'Zeppelin are fucking useless' or whatever, I never got personal on anyone and I would like to know what 'harsh things' I said. As I've said I get this regularly and it's really annoying as firstly I haven't done anything, and secondly it appears people can't express their clear and direct opinions without it being assumed there's some form of animosity or getting personal. If I worded every opinion with the words "to be honest..." or "but that's just my opinion :nice:" maybe this wouldn't happen but those things are implied anyway so whats the point.

The only thing I took back was that I said they are talentless, harsh against the band but I didn't say people are idiots for liking them- that would be harsh, so I don't see why people should be getting offended over me criticizing some band or what the link is there.

Haha the irony is that we were on topic 100% and the only person who seemed offended is you, I can't see a comment from anyone else who seems offended but if they are, that's their issue.

NOTE: I'm NOT angry with you, to be honest that's just my opinion. :nice:

Eh, I think I'll just go away I'm sort of lazy to get all argumenty D:

Thanks Reilly!

I would have to disagree, in that I do think they do have a whole bunch of classic or catchy riffs. I mean I've found when I've seen people listing the top catchiest or "best" riffs (whatever that even means), that Zeppelin usually holds a lot of those spots.

I would consider the following songs to be their most popular or catchiest riffs (though it pretty much includes most of their songs with riffs): Dazed and Confused (bass), How Many More Times, Whole Lotta Love (bass), Moby Dick, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Bring it on Home (1/2 way into the song), Immigrant Song, Black Dog, The Ocean, Kashmir, Houses of the Holy, The Rover, The Wanton Song, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Fool in the Rain.

This video has a pretty comprehensive top 10 list of songs though I might change a few of them around or take one or two of them out and replace them with ones I've mentioned.

ignorant slut? :bigcry:

Hahaha we're definitely going to have to disagree then, I'm sitting through this entire youtube video like WUT IS THIS I DONT EVEN. Some of it literally doesn't sound like music and this is their best work. Also noticing the drummer being off at different points, I mean I've personally known drummers who I've never heard make a mistake on the most complicated of songs, and this guys in one of the 'greatest bands ever'? I just don't believe the mistakes are intentional, that's crazy and suggesting that is kinda revealing a massive bias towards wanting to like a band. Gritty recording to get a dirty, grimey sound, yes, fine, but making mistakes when playing live? Really?

On the plus side I do like some of the bass parts, every cloud...

haha. well I think a lot of them are great riffs. I think the reason why they were considered huge for their riffs is because I guess in terms of the time that they were around it was a pretty big thing going on and something that people latched onto easily.

I don't really hear the drums being too off much, then again I'm probably so used to those recordings anyway. I still think that he's a great drummer, some of the fills that he's done live are great, and he has been considered to be one of the best rock drummers.

He is a really great bass player. Definitely one of the most solid members of the band.

If you want to hear a great song w/ his bass playing check out The Lemon Song

excellent bass playing, especially that little bend at 5:16

Are there any songs that you like by them, or not really?

D'aw Mike I'm a lost cause, I thought the bass in that song was a bit of a mess, even before the section at 1:30 hit, from there its like :wtf: It sounds like he's hitting random notes, and he may as well be as it would sound just as good, and the timing overall is just fucked.

And no haha, I don't like one single Zeppelin song. I think I dump on them so much because the only people I've known who care enough about rock music to have an opinion on Zeppelin think they ARE music, you're stupid for disliking them, go and fuck off and listen to Britney Spears LOL. I suppose blaming the band for their fans isn't fair, but on the other hand the music is just as pretentious.

I don't mean YOU as a fan Mike, but you probably know the type of fan I mean, the hippie type who just wants to roll a joint and chill out with this real music the rest of world is too stupid to understand (Despite Zeppelin having a huge fanbase).

haha oh well... I mean of course you're entitled to your opinion and I greatly respect your opinion especially them indepth and detailed comments as to why you don't like them, rather than just tossing them to the side for no real reason.

I do know the kind of people you are talking about in the sense that they are ignorant in not understanding other peoples opinions on a band and putting such a band on a pedestal. I also am not a fan of those kind of people as well, though I must admit for certain bands I may act somewhat the same, such as The Beatles. I guess for me perhaps what I want to try to get across is that you (not you specifically but people in general) may not like a given artist, but at the same time you can't knock how big of an influence they may have had on music. At the same time people shouldn't knock others for not liking an artist.

I would have to though disagree with you in that you don't think they are music. I think that they were a very important band for their time and a bunch of really talented musicians. I think they started their career off great, but as time progressed really lost a lot of what made them initially great (you can tell that all the members except maybe John Paul Jones really deteriorated in their talent over the years). I think they were a great attempt at bringing the blues to more of a mainstream audience, but I can definitely see how you or anyone else might consider them or some songs to be over the top.

I can relate to you in terms of fans and how they can kind of ruin the music which is terrible. For example I'm from a really indie town that is obsessed with Animal Collective. Now I enjoy the band, but however going to one of their concerts and seeing them infest my town I don't like the band nearly as much because I associate their pretentiousness with the band, which of course isn't right but at times is tough to escape.

Is that the only band from that era you have such strong opinions against, or are other bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Beach Boys, etc. up there as well?

i feel so proud being part of the 10% of children and teenagers who know what real music is.

If your one of the ones that did not like this song kill your self

TheCylrin

@TheCylrin They don't need to kill themselves. They're already living in misery, and that's the best thing for them if they don't like this.

Don't you just wanna punch all these people?

Yes I can't knock their influence but I don't think I have, but apart from Jeff Buckley I hate most bands they've influenced and I hate 99% of metal, so there's really not much they have done for me personally.

And of all the respected influential rock groups, they are the only one who I can't understand how they even got off the ground. I really do think that if Zeppelin weren't famous and 90% of people who are their fanbase were given a CD by, lets say a work colleague, saying this is their band, the reaction when listening would be along the lines of "Singer has a good voice but what the hell?" and you'd avoid them at work forever.

That awkward little analogy is the best way I can put it, so I'll shutup and stop Zeppelin-bashing at last. :wacky:

hahaha I have a colleague who is an ignorant Led Zeppelin kinda music fan and an ignorant Beatles fan....and I love getting into discussions with him since I don't give a damn about his taste....

yeah I do want to punch those people. I mean it's just sheer ignorance and elitism to think that your music tastes are superior to others. No need to knock someone for not liking an artist. I find it really annoying. Another thing that I also find really annoying how people will say "I'm a HUGE fan of Led Zeplin or Led Zepplin"... I mean for god sake if you really liked the band at least spell their name right

I can understand. I mean I'm similar in the sense that I don't really like metal at all. I mean honestly I'm not really even much of a fan anymore of the band. I still like their songs, but I sort of find that a lot of the older "Classic Rock" bands really don't do much for me anymore (with the exception of like The Beatles, Floyd, and The Doors).

This is quite funny... right now I'm watching the '100 Greatest Artists' show on VH1 (guess who is number 3 on the list), and there was a video clip of people in a record store, and they showed the divider that separates the artists albums... and the record store had it spelled Led Zepplin. The record store got it wrong?!? How does that happen?

Yeah... I can get thinking The Edge is better because his guitar sound is to be fair somewhat unique but Marr and Greenwood? trololo

:laugh3:

The funniest thing I ever read.

I can see people liking U2 and disliking The Smiths and Jonny Radiohead, but to say that the latter don't have any unique guitar sounds and U2 do?

BAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA

I didn't bother with the rest of the thread after this.
