Your mistake was asking a Coldplay forum.

Whilst there are plenty of people around who like some cool stuff, eats niche has it's own select group of followers within the forum. If you stray too far away from middle of the road the majority won't follow you.

I love them. They were my first concert. I always liked their acoustic stuff the best. My best friend in jr high was a massive Zeppelin fan. We stole her mom's car and went "on tour" with them. The 70's.....good times. ;)

I've never tried to get into them, I mean I've heard Stairway to Heaven (which bored me... I don't see how it's so popular) but little else. I don't like the kind of band Led Zeppelin is in general, it's basically just like "LOL I PRETTY GOOD AT MAKING LOUD NOISES ON GUITAR AND SINGING LOUD LOL ROCK!" -- I don't like most music from that time period, actually. I like The Beatles and then I basically skip over a whole two decades.

 

(Except for Queen. which I totally just got into a few days ago basically. mind still = totally blown by everything. tee hee.)

 

edit: Oh yeah. I've listened to a few Grateful Dead concerts and they're actually really good... but the Deadheads are disgusting and I've never really tried beyond that to get into them (haven't downloaded anything). I'm pretty sure I would kind of pretty much like them if I did though.

That song ranks pretty low on the Zeppelin scale to me. I don't think that's very representitive of the rest of their work.

Immigrant Song is brilliant, though.

But "Ten Years Gone" is epic and everyone should agree.

Ditto. TYG is the best Zep song ever.

 

The likes of The Edge, Jonny Marr, Jonny Greenwood et are better guitarists in my opinion because they give meaning to their guitar work.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Marr is a far technically gifted guitarist than most out there and Greenwood is clearly influenced by him as is The Edge as he admitted himself. Yeah I'd much rather have Jimmy Page murdering a finely composed song with a technically gifted but non sensicle guitar solo more than anything.

I love Ten Years Gone. In fact it might be my favorite Led Zeppelin song, which is strange because it's not a very well known song by theirs.

 

Other favs include: No Quarter, Going to California, Since I've Been Loving You, When The Levee Breaks, Bron-Yr-Aur.

LZ aren't even the kind of music we (In the Lounge/World of Music) listen to in general, maybe some, but to say "HOW CAN ANYBODY DISLIKE LED ZEPPELIN?" Yah, no.

And I think I've heard Ten Years Gone before, and like every Zeppelin song, it just sounds so fucking manufactured, not by a record label or men in suits, but by the band themselves, it would be overly complimentary to say they developed a formulae for good rock song writing, but they didn't, it's not even good. Zeppelin sound like an x amount of other rock groups from that time but for some reason they were lucky enough to stand out. That song in particular sounds exactly like a piss poor Grunge band making an attempt at making a soft smooth acoustic based song as some filler for their album, yet I regularly see this mentioned as one of their greatest hits, it's awful.

 

As many Led Zeppelin fans as there are, and as many arguments as I've seen people make towards how great they are, I've never seen one argument that backs this opinion up with analysing the music. Just like this thread, it's always "ZEP R LEGEND- END OF". It correlates with people who simply type Zeppelin lyrics and leave a comment like "-Speechless" or "Simply breathtaking" yes uhm, why exactly? Most of the lyrics are 2 dimensional spew.

Marr is gifted, sure, but not truly original in style... more tasteful, definitely, but so's everyone. And Jonny Greenwood is a nice guy but he's not up there in the list of top guitarists at all.

Well you can't really be underrated if you're a band like the Beatles... hahaha.

 

I like them quite a bit but even I think they're horrifically overrated by a lot of people. :shrug:

It could be used about anyone, because really any music or art is essentially manufactured, but the term applied to music takes on a different connotation. What I'm saying is, this is a group of talentless people with little or no creativity who blatantly made formulaic rock with no heart or soul, to blag success. I don't hate them for that or anything, they did the best they could do with their limited talent, but I don't understand why anyone could enjoy listening to this terrible music. I think most people love Zeppelin because of their legendary status or the hype they built when they first came out.

 

Coldplay are indeed another band who use a template for writing music, it's not from the heart, it's meaningless dribble, and most annoyingly it's created with intent to look like they know what they're doing. They don't.

 

Forced creativity can be brilliant, who doesn't love Burt Bacharach? But that's genius and talent, seeing people appreciate forced creativity as if it's incredible kinda pisses me off.

I don't see how on earth you can call a band like Led Zeppelin a group of "talentless people with little or no creativity". They are in my opinion one of the most talented bands ever. From Jimmy page to John Paul Jones to John Bonham and even Robert Plant vocally (well at least say the first 3-4 albums), they were an amazing musicians with great chemistry when playing music together.

 

Yeah you may not like them or think their lyrics are shit, or feel the music is terrible but you cannot deny their huge importance within the music world or how much talent as musicians they had. Like I personally am not a fan of Jimi Hendrix's music, but he still was an incredible musician. I think they were able to really bring more blues to a mainstream audience, but also help pave the way to making music heavier. For better or for worse it was a band like Zeppelin that directly influenced the emergence of metal music. Yes their music isn't metal but the whole image that is associated with them is always seen within metal.
