OK. He probably won't mind if I do this, so I'm going to review Bryce's tape here as I listen to it. Bryce, I'm also going to listen to the extras.

Here we go.

1. "You"-Gold Panda

Interesting beginning. This is a hugely electronic track, and it experiments with a variation of noises. That fast bit was pretty cool. As I'm halfway through the track now, I'm going to assume that there's not going to be any singing with this. I kinda expected them to show up when the song started, but I suppose it's OK they aren't there. It felt like there was something missing, but it was a good track. It's an interesting way to open. I might look more into this.

2. "Springboarder"-Parades

This is more low-key than the previous track; it's electronic as well, but it's not nearly as upbeat. It's a nice contrast, actually. This song gets better as it goes along; it keeps adding things to grab my attention. I like this one better than the previous.

3. "Lemonade"-Braids

Mmmmm, Braids. I like this album quite a bit. Nice track choice; it's one of my favorites. I don't have much more to say about this one.

4. "Induco"-Midnight Juggernauts

This serves as an interlude of sorts. I like this a lot. It's just a wall of synthy sound. If their longer tracks sound like this, too, then I want more.

5. "Inchworm"-Battles

This one moves more. It has a nice beat, too. OMG, IT USES SLEIGH BELLS. I only bring this up because they're very tastefullly used. This is catchy. Doo doo dooooo, doo doo doo doo doo dooooo. This is goooood. I want more Battles.

6. "Strange Nostalgia for the Future"-Cut Copy

Yaaaaay. :D Cut Copy are legit. This is one of my favorites from "Zonoscope." That beginning bit has a lot to do with it, I think. Nice choice again.

7. "Teenage Crime"-Adrian Lux

Just from the beginning, it sounds more like a dance track than anything else I've heard at this point. Then again, I don't know a lot about that sort of thing, so I wouldn't take my word for it. It kinda just went to a drum beat, which gets annoying after listening to it for a while. Never mind, it just fixed itself. ...Wait, is Adrian Lux a woman? :inquisitive: The singer sounds like one. Given a lot of this tape hasn't had vocals on it, these are quite welcome. MMMMM. It just went into this wall of lushness. That goes on for a while, then goes softer. Now there are handclaps, and it goes back. I like this track a lot. I'll definitely look more into this.

8. "Kill Your Co-Workers"-Flying Lotus

Nice beat at the beginning. It comes in with these cute little synthy things, then adds more beats. This song sounds very busy. I don't mind; in cases like this, that works just fine. It has just the right amount of things going on, and it changes just at the right time to keep my attention on the song. I'm like, "Oh, I like this. Wait, what's that? I like that bit." You know, my mind is keeping occupied. I appreciate this addition rather much.

9. "I Mind"-James Blake

I. Love. Him. For real. His album is so chill. He's around my age, too. (He's around a year older than me, I think.)

10. "Davy Crockett"-Fang Island

Woosh-a-woosh-a-woosh. It kinda starts out like that. It's gone on for about a minute now, and I'm wondering if it's gonna go anywhere. Thankfully, it does; it has synthetic strings (or something that sounds like it) now. "Oooh-oooh-ahhh-ohhhhhhh." That's an example of how the vocals pretty much go. That is, until the guitars come in. YEAH, GUITARS, WOOOOO. :wacky: It seems that this song can be easily separated into different sections. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm not so sure if it was right to end the tape this way, but it's a nice listen nevertheless.

Extra 1

Strings! Joy. :D Ummmmm. These vocals...they're not my thing. Wait...I hear "too many flesh suppers." Ohhh. This is Los Campesinos! My dislike of this track makes sense now. I remember the track title from the WoM awards for B-sides. I'm not really into that band. Sorry. :\

Extra 2

This starts with Cs on a piano, then evolves into a moving line. It continues to build with an addition of strings and a chord progression. As far as I can tell, this is just a cute little instrumental piece. Oh, now it adds a drumset. This is simple, yet pretty. It's so lovely. Would this happen to be Yann Tiersen? It sounds like something he would write, based on what I've heard people say about his music. (I've never actually taken a good listen to the guy.)

Extra 3

This one has piano, too. I love piano tracks. I feel like I should know who this is, but I don't. :( The singer sounds like Win Butler to me, but he's more gritty than Win would be. I like this song. I can't help but feel like I've heard this song before...

Extra 4

MOAR PIANO. Yes plx! This has drumset and guitar, too. I think I've realized this is yet another instrumental number. This is chill. I could use more stuff like this. I wish I had more to say about it, but the song kinda doesn't have a lot that I can talk about.

Extra 5

Drumset, then...trumpets? Nice! :D It has some snazzy guitar thing in it, too. Male and female vocals, too. The female vocals are quite clear. The male vocals are nice. They actually fit together nicely. I like the part where the girl and the guy are exchanging vocals, like a call and response sort of thing. I caught a bit lyrically about happiness or something. That's a novel idea. The song kinda has a bit of a cute factor.

Here's what I've gathered from the tape. Bryce, you've given me some more stuff to look into, particularly music with an electronic influence. I don't think I listen to as much of that as I should. I think overall, I liked the extras more than the tape itself, but that's mostly because, as I've mentioned before, I'm a sucker for piano music, and that's more of my cup of tea. The tape was definitely quite good. I think the middle of the tape was the best part. Thank you for making such a lovely tape.

Question: Does anyone know what in the world .ogg files are? I've opened Navegador's tape to review it for him, but I noticed the tracks were in this format, and I have no idea how to play them.

OGG is a container that usually is used with Vorbis codec. It's way more efficient than any MP3 codec avaliable. Install THIS and you'll be able to run Vorbis-encoded audio.

Biffy Clyro - Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies

I remember this :surprised:

^ :-D yep I only just realised that I put this on your mixtape :-P love it so much <3 <3

Apologies if somebody else already reviewed the tape given to me, I know I have taken ages.

OK, so throughout the mixtape I noticed that I enjoyed quite a lot of the music. It was catchy, happy and quite edgy in places.

Track 1 - Animal Collective: I find these hit and miss, but this is one of the ones I prefer. I especially like the bit after the long middle repetitive bit. Long song but a good start :)

Track 2 - Liking the music, but I can't get over the voice unfortunately. I don't like the effects on the vocals. As I said though, music is nice, with a little reggae beat in places.

Track 3 - Nice intro, and I prefer the vocals. Can't think of what it reminds me of. Not my usual genre but it's fine in the background.

Track 4 - More vocoder haha. Nice pop song, but just can't hack those vocals. The music gets very good when it kicks in.

Track 5 - Interesting music. Nicely varied, some good layers. Vocals remind me of Kele Okerele, but a tad more desperate in his voice.

Track 6 - I'm guessing it's Mew. I could be wrong. It takes all the things I don't like about Sigur Ros and runs with it, so I don't like them. Sorry :(

Track 7 - Another nice indie pop song.

Track 8 - And again. Upbeat, good music for a playlist. In the verses the vocals are quite distinctive, but in the chorus they become a bit more generic with the progression of melody in his voice.

Track 9 - Sounds Scottish! I like the line 'Swim until you can't see land'. The music is quite uplifting in places, like at the end.

Track 10 - Sounds a little Beirut with the music. The vocals aren't a million miles off either. I don't think it's them though. Nice break down and introduction of strings.

Track 11 - Simplistic but effective music. Edgy vocals, but sounds like a young boy.

Track 12 - Interesting start. The most interesting song so far. I like it. Just something missing in the vocals slightly, or maybe not missing, but something in there.

Track 13 - The Vaccines. Like a toned down National. Don't do it for me, but definitely not a bad song. The 'come on, come on' gives it a sing-a-long feel, which makes me cringe. Other than that, it seriously isn't a bad song. Just doesn't do much for me.

Track 14 - Fleet Foxes. Good band. Feels like the playlist is coming full circle as they remind me of an British Animal Collective (even though they are American :laugh3:)

Track 15 - Folky finish. Nice song. Doesn't grab me by the heart, but quite pretty. I like the guitar on it.

Overall a very well thought out playlist, nicely ordered (loving the fact it was all one track, so it was easy to listen to as a playlist, and then the recap at the end was a stroke of genius) and flowed well. I thought a lot of the music was very good, and for quite poppy sounding music (for the genres) it's good to see they the bands are thinking about what they are producing and not just throwing out generic musical backing tracks like they have done in the past. There weren't many vocals I could connect to though, unfortunately, although i know a lot of other people will be able to, and that's probably just my stubborness at not being able to overcome certain things haha.

Thanks for doing this, and I apologise again for the lateness of my reply. Overall a 7 out of ten, but I think for a lot of people it would reach a 9 :)

Track 9 - Sounds Scottish! I like the line 'Swim until you can't see land'. The music is quite uplifting in places, like at the end.

Frightened Rabbit! :wacky:

Greg, that's my mixtape but I won't post the tracklisting now because I want to wait for other 2 reviewers to post their reviews first.

I'll try to have mine up some time tomorrow, if possible.

Well then. Time to listen to tapes that I've already downloaded. For those of you who are doing that, you should take a listen to Sofia's tape. (sofia dadou) It's rather fabulous.

 :wacky:

Thanks

Actually, I remembered just now that I can use Audacity to export the .ogg files to mp3 format. Thank you so much for your help, though!

Haha, you're welcome. :nice:

Actually, I remembered just now that I can use Audacity to export the .ogg files to mp3 format. Thank you so much for your help, though!

In this case there will be further loss. I recommend installing the DirectShow filter from that site, it's way easier than importing each file into Audacity and exporting them to MP3 (but it's obviously your choice).

By the time I read your comment, I had already done it. :shame: Oh well.

Oh, and Rudy. I listened to the review snippet of your tape, and I know just from that that I know quite a bit of the content of your tape already. You have some nice choices on there.

Update Time.

Navegador, I listened to about half of yours, and I'm not sure if it was like it when I got it or when I converted the files, but a couple of the tracks glitched. I'm sorry. :\ I'll look at them and see what the deal is.

Rudy, I've also listened to the first third of yours (or something like that), and it sounds good. I did get irritated, however, when I accidentally pressed the wrong button and was forced to reselect the track and fast-forward through everything. (I was listening on my mp3 player, not on iTunes where I can just click on times.) As it was past 1 in the morning, I got really impatient. I'll come back to yours as well.

I just found out that it could be that irritating after I submitted the tape to Kelsie

Sowwy :disappointed:

Apologies if somebody else already reviewed the tape given to me, I know I have taken ages.

Track 1 - Animal Collective: I find these hit and miss, but this is one of the ones I prefer. I especially like the bit after the long middle repetitive bit. Long song but a good start :)

Brothersport by Animal Collective.

Track 2 - Liking the music, but I can't get over the voice unfortunately. I don't like the effects on the vocals. As I said though, music is nice, with a little reggae beat in places.

This is Can You Discover by Discovery. Discovery consists of Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles. If you don't like the vocal effects you might try the original version of this track called Can You Tell, performed by Ra Ra Riot.

Track 3 - Nice intro, and I prefer the vocals. Can't think of what it reminds me of. Not my usual genre but it's fine in the background.

I'm Going Down by Vampire Weekend.

Track 4 - More vocoder haha. Nice pop song, but just can't hack those vocals. The music gets very good when it kicks in.

Hahaha, this is Eat That Up, It's Good For You by Two Door Cinema Club.

Track 5 - Interesting music. Nicely varied, some good layers. Vocals remind me of Kele Okerele, but a tad more desperate in his voice.

lol desperate I think I get what you mean  One Night In October by Little Comets.

Track 6 - I'm guessing it's Mew. I could be wrong. It takes all the things I don't like about Sigur Ros and runs with it, so I don't like them. Sorry :(

It's not Mew, and you're right this is Animal Arithmetic by Jonsi - the frontman of Sigur Ros.

Track 7 - Another nice indie pop song.

Too Dramatic by Ra Ra Riot.

Track 8 - And again. Upbeat, good music for a playlist. In the verses the vocals are quite distinctive, but in the chorus they become a bit more generic with the progression of melody in his voice.

Give It All Back by Noah and the Whale.

Track 9 - Sounds Scottish! I like the line 'Swim until you can't see land'. The music is quite uplifting in places, like at the end.

Indeed :cheesy: They're indeed Scottish! And you got the title right, this is Swim Until You Can't See The Land by Frightened Rabbit.

Track 10 - Sounds a little Beirut with the music. The vocals aren't a million miles off either. I don't think it's them though. Nice break down and introduction of strings.

The folky tune of Beirut is there, but it's not Zach Condon. This is The Walls Are Coming Down by Fanfarlo.

Track 11 - Simplistic but effective music. Edgy vocals, but sounds like a young boy.

 Paper Aeroplane by Angus & Julia Stone.

Track 12 - Interesting start. The most interesting song so far. I like it. Just something missing in the vocals slightly, or maybe not missing, but something in there.

I actually randomly selected this song :P

This is Not a Robot, But a Ghost by Andrew Bird.

Track 13 - The Vaccines. Like a toned down National. Don't do it for me, but definitely not a bad song. The 'come on, come on' gives it a sing-a-long feel, which makes me cringe. Other than that, it seriously isn't a bad song. Just doesn't do much for me.

Wetsuit - The Vaccines.

Track 14 - Fleet Foxes. Good band. Feels like the playlist is coming full circle as they remind me of an British Animal Collective (even though they are American :laugh3:)

Animal Collective? Yeah, you're right, this is Battery Kinzie by Fleet Foxes, taken from their latest album Helplessness Blues.

Track 15 - Folky finish. Nice song. Doesn't grab me by the heart, but quite pretty. I like the guitar on it.

Derwen****er Stones by Robin Pecknold - the frontman of Fleet Foxes.

I knew it! Like a few other reviewers, I was totally blank when I was told that I got Braddock as my partner. Hence I just make a mix that actually explains about my music preference, not one that might seem appealing to you :p

About the mix, good to know that you loved it to be in a track. Some people don't really like it, Violet for example. :P

The mixtape actually has 2 themes - the first half has this electronic-catchy-upbeat mood, and it gradually shifted to a more folky tune.

Thanks for reviewing. Your lateness is forgiven. :P

Cheers Rudy!

I'll be looking into quite a few of these.

I have no problem in listening to other peoples music tastes and it's sometimes good to go completely different to what a person normally likes, rather than just teaching them about the genres they already have an interest in.

Haha! Sorry if I didn't put it up to your expectation. But I'm glad that you don't hate it :P

lol look how they censor the 'Derwent water Stones'

I'm glad you posted this. It turns out that I knew all but three of these already, and I would've ruined it for Greg.
