You really have to learn Hyper Music. I don't care if you hate Muse with a burning passion, it's an excellent bass piece.

And then of course Time Is Running Out has a pretty good bassline too, but it is dwarfed by Hyper Music. :wacky:

Can't remember that much now..some of my favourites are "Timebomb" by The Whitest Boy Alive & Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups

I don't know why but I've always loved the bassline in Ob La Di Ob La Da.

Also New Years Day by U2.

^Yep, the bassline on New Year's Day is amazing.

I can't believe nobody posted "Money" yet! It's perhaps the most famous bassline ever.

I'll probably put a bunch in a separate post but the first one that comes to mind (ignore the clothes/hair/video) is:

Jay Ferguson - Thunder Island

I'll think of more later. Those are just some that popped in my head.

I'm going to leave you with these...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvSOquDOfVo]Jaco Pastorius Solo[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8j4RS7FyQs]Victor & Regi Wooten Battle[/ame]

Ohhh, Jaco :mellow:

I can't even include him in a list of "basslines", though, he didn't even write basslines, just fucking awesome parts/solos. Not much of it was close to repetitive enough to be a "bassline", or at least not a bassline on the same level as what we normally refer to in pop (ie riffs/grooves)

edit: I could also indulge in my love of 70's porn music right now but perhaps I shan't :P

I was trying to find a decent-sounding youtube video for

Billy Squier - Everybody Wants You

but I came across this instead and I started laughing uncontrollably :|

All the times I've listened to Haiti, I've never even noticed it has a genuine bassline played on an actual bass... >.> I think I always assumed it was a keyboard cuz it sounds like one in the beginning?

And I've listened to Haiti a LOT. I'm embarrassed now :sad:

WARNING: this is my Radiohead post
