Why is it the thing to do to dislike Coldplay?

With the new album being released and countless reviews streaming in,you cant help but read all the reviews. Some good and some bad. After reading some negative reviews I couldnt help but ask myself the question. Why does it seem like the thing to do to express how much people dislike Coldplay? To me anyways,it seems like a lot of people go out of their way to let it be known how much they dislike the bands music. They go into great detail sometimes too.I think those critics live for the day Coldplay release a new album.Everyone has their critics I understand, yet everyone is a critic.I for one never understood the relevance of a critic. Not just in music but movies, books, etc. It is basically one persons opinion really.

Im sure Coldplay arent the only band who recieve negative comments. But as a fan you cant help but notice it a little more than usual. As much as you try to ignore those type of people every now and then you cant help but notice the negative comments sometimes. It just made me wonder why really.

If its not the type of music they like, then thats fine. But they seem to go to great lengths to make it known that they dont like their music.Even fellow musicians do the same.So I was just wondering what everyone one else thought. Why do people go out of their way to say they dont like Coldplay?

I listen to Coldplay since 2002. The band's sound is clearly changed since their first album. They are evolving, like all of us. You cant be the same throughout time, your fans will probably be bored, so a change is always vital.

Yes, MX is a different album in every aspect, but still it is brilliant.

Doesnt matter whether it receives bad critics or not. After all, people have different tastes. Numbers will speak (sales, audience in live concerts), not critics.

But don't you know that criticism can be positive/negative or even balanced? Criticism is just someone giving a value judgement. I think you confuse this with the one kind of criticism that is destructive/negative. The problem with criticism is, however, that if there were only positive criticisms, you would miss out on a lot, because a good criticism should be funded/argued/motivated. Balanced or negative criticism that is a good criticism can help for example bands to understand how their fanbase feels about their CD. A praise for a certain song might also mean more if you can compare it to a song that you think is shit, when using good argumentation. But let’s not forget that most of it is still subjective. A song can be shit, because the melody is repeated all over the song without any variation (this part is a fact) and you find this boring and showing a lack of creativity that you would expect from the band (this part is subjective). Basically without critics you wouldn’t know how other people think/feel about the matter.

But I do agree with you that most of the reviews seem to have a lot of negative criticism in it. Maybe it is some kind of fashion to see only all what’s bad in CD’s of well-known bands? Or maybe the MX CD just isn’t liked so much?

I’d advise you – when reading one of these negative criticisms again - to keep in mind what you said already yourself

It is basically one persons opinion really.
