🪐 Coldplay: Music of the Spheres 🪐 | Out Now! | Discussion
First off, Ive been on this forum since pre- X&Y release, but have been a lurker for the past couple album cycles and don't post much these days. But Ive followed the boys from the very beginning. So, its been a treat to say that Ive grown with them musically and in life. I always wished they'd had gone the full alternative/rock route, as their earlier stuff indicated that they would be pretty damn good at it! Look, I love Buckland's guitar, I think he's a subtle genius, and wish they would fully unleash him, i.e. One I Love(2003 Live). But Ive come to accept that they just aren't going to do that. Buckland's genius is still there, but just like the rest of the band, they compliment each other perfectly, which makes them who they are, Coldplay. Every time they release an album, I get a little scared, for lack of a better word, that they may go full blown cringe worthy pop. But ive learn to grow with them and accept that, in the end, they never steer you wrong. They know what they're doing. Even if it is pop. I love most of their pop stuff. Because at the end of the day, they create with a purpose. And I know it means something to them, being how much of a perfectionist they are. So while this little 15 second snippet seems super poppy, I have no doubt that it will be Coldplay to it's very core. Heck, this may be the poppiest thing on the album. Let's not judge the entire album or song on 15 seconds. At this point in the game, they know what they're doing. I trust them! Bring Higher Power and the album on!

Up With The Birds & Champion Of The World.
This was eluded to in another thread somewhere by another poster, but I feel like COTW is a continuation of some sorts to UWTB. I could be reaching here but I think for me the lyric,"Might have to go where they don't know my name. Float all over the world just to see her again" from UWTB and the lyric."I wandered the whole wide world, but baby you're the best." from COTW seem to be interconnected. Even if they aren't, for me, the songs feel connected through those set of lyrics. What do you guys think?

Everyday Life Leak Discussion [SPOILERS INSIDE]
The first part, the piano part of Bani Adam was played in 2010. Chris plays it at the very end of Trouble in the video below. I always loved the little snippet of it and wondered if we would ever hear it again

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Who cares about how it performs as single? Cause you know who doesn't? Coldplay. They chose to release this song now because it obviously is special to them. Think people are missing the essence of the song for what it is. As for the song not having a big ending, they have done that plenty of times. Have you forgotten that they don't like repeating themselves? Sticking to the same formula with song structures gets boring after a while. Everyday Life is beautiful. I love it!

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Yea, I personally don't think they would do that either. In fact, I would be kind of disappointed if they did. Besides, they are always talking about trying something new and not repeating themselves. Plus, I would like to think that they wouldn't hype this up only to drop new versions of old songs.
-
LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Don't know if anyone has said this or not, but after hearing the 15 second teaser and hearing those strings, someone on the Facebook post said that maybe the album could be an album of reworkings of different Coldplay tracks from their past albums. Maybe the reworked songs will be the youtube videos that the thumbnails were changed to black and white and have the symbol on them? Maybe orchestra reworkings of old songs.

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Looking like another era is about to begin! Been here since the pre X&Y rumors and release. Gotta say, this never gets old! I've always wanted the band to do something "experimental". I really just want them to expand their creative wings and really be free to try anything! Super excited though! Time to sit back and enjoy this ride!

U.F.O
I've always thought that the placement of UFO on the track listing after Major Minus adds something more to UFO. Major Minus feels like this battle with the "bad guy". It has crunchy guitars and is very atmospheric. It's a very intense song actually. Then UFO comes in right after and sweeps you away blissfully. Its like the calm after the storm. The battle is over and now there is this sense of relief and reflection on where to go now, what might the next step be? It's a break in the journey. It's a moment to catch your breath and reflect. This is one of my favorite songs because of the melody, lyrics, and message. To look for the good in any situation. "Bullets fly, split the sky. But thats alright, sometimes sunlight comes steaming through the holes" Its all about how you choose to see things. Its all about perspective. I simply love this song.

What Is Your Favorite Vocal Melody?
One of the reasons I was drawn to Coldplay way back when, was for how melodic their music is. Chris has a way with creating melodies. Whether it's his playing them on an instrument or singing them. Often I would find myself humming lyrics to certain songs and then realizing how amazing the vocal melody actually is. Chris is really great at coming up with vocal melodies and I believe he is one of the best to ever do it! Sometimes its easy to forget the vocal melody, as you just concentrate on the lyrics that are being sung. But if you try to take away the actual lyrics and hear the vocal melody and how Chris pairs it, I think it brings another level of appreciation to the song and to Chris gift. So I ask you, what are some of your favorite vocal melodies from a Coldplay song? Some of mine are: Fix You - I love how he pairs the last rhyming word to the verse with the next verse. Something Just Like This - I really love the pre-chorus vocal melody. I honestly think its one of his best. The lyrics just flow greatly with the melody. Us Against The World - Also one of my favorites. I think in this instance, the lyrics bring out the vocal melody really lovely! Those are just a few.

A L I E N S
This is Coldplay! It's different then anything they have released in a long time! Dare I say all the way back to the Viva era? You can hear Eno's influence all over this song. Honestly, I wish they would go back to working with Eno fully, for their next LP at least. He pushes the band musically in ways that no one can, not even themselves. As I said before, I loved that Will was using different time signatures during the Viva era. This being an Eno produced song, seems to have that effect. I like it. This is the direction I would love to see them go in next. Or at least explore more different types of sounds. I truly feel like they have done their pop thing, and they've done it good. But now it may be time for them to go down a different road, one of exploration. Great track!

All I Can Think About Is You
Sometimes, I'm amazed at how Jonny and Will's playing keeps getting washed out and pushed back in the production on certain songs. Especially when Jonny has a great guitar on the song or when Will is smashing the drums! This has been my one consistent critique of the boys for a while. I can barely hear Will's drumming on the last part of the song, and thats a shame because he is killing it, especially in the live videos I've seen. The sound of the drums aren't as powerful as they are live. I really hope they start working with someone who will push the guitars and drums to the front of the production. Or at least someone who can mix the instruments on the production better so they don't get lost in the production.

Hypnotised - first song off Kaleidoscope
Look, I've been a fan since the very beginning. I've seen this band grow and progress. I might not have always liked the direction they took sometimes on certain songs or albums, but I embrace the fact that they don't like to repeat themselves. One thing I have learned from them is progression, not just in music, but you can apply it to life as well. I fell in love with them because music was presented to me in a way I have never heard before. I heard the most beautiful melodies I had ever heard. I found Coldplay at the right time my life. There was one song that I automatically felt an instant connection to the first time I heard it, and that was The Scientist. I just was able to fully relate to it at that time in my life and felt like it was sent to me for a reason, and thats the beauty of music, thats how it can make you feel, as if that one song was written for just you. Hypnotised it simply beautiful. It's Coldplay. Just the boys playing together. Chris' piano playing, Jonny's classic guitar sounds, Will's drumming marching along, and Guy subtly making the song complete. For only the second time, I have instantly felt a strong connection to a song on the first listen. The melodies are so beautiful I really can't explain it, I almost nearly cried tears of joy, that's how moved I was when listening to this. I have always felt that Chris is one of the greatest melodist ever. If you take the time to just pay attention to a lot of his vocal melodies, they are truly amazing. I really love the vocal melody in Hypnotised. Maybe it's because of where I am at in my life right now, going through a transition, I can relate to the lyrics and it makes it that much more special to me. Im not here to criticize Chris lyrics or what not, what's the point? This is a beautiful song and I wouldn't be doing it justice if I was critiquing things I honestly have no idea about. I would be doing myself an injustice, because this song is simply beautiful and I will enjoy it!

[2016-07-16] MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
I had a feeling this was going to happen for the US Stadium tour with the change of stage layout. For a second I thought maybe they would have two different set ups for the US dates and the rest of the tour dates over seas. But I guess not. The current stage layout doesn't really seem unique. Its pretty much the same as the Mylo stadium tour. What happened to the mock up we saw in the behind the scenes Super Bowl videos? That stage set up looked pretty cool. Just wish they would have changed it up a bit with the layout.

[2016-06-26] Coldplay Headline Glastonbury 2016
Seems like that keyboard has been giving them problems as of late. So this is a stupid question, how does an electric keyboard(it is electric, yes?) go out of tune? Im not very familiar with how they work.

[2016-04-03] Estadio Nacional, Santiago, Chile
Army of One still sounded ok. It seemed like Chris was concentrating or more concision of his singing performance this time with Army of One. But he still sounds a bit off. Maybe its the mix of the song they are doing. I think they should give the studio version a go, at least one time to see how it goes.

[2016-03-31] Estadio Único De La Plata, La Plata, Argentina
Just from watching the videos, it looks like some of the new songs like, HFTW and Army of One, dont translate well live. Either that or Chris just sounds so off when he sings them. I feel like their trying to do too much with some of the songs like that Paradise climax remix thing, what was that? Chris not even playing the organ on Fix You and just walking around? Really? I feel like the setlist doesn't mesh well either. I love In My Place live and think it would fit better as the second song as it did in the Mylo Tour. And how can you not play The Scientist? Doesn't matter if its been on the setlist since forever, people come to hear that song and its a classic and they should know that. I kind of dont know what they are thinking right now. Do I dare say that they have gotten too big for their own good? But I will say that it was the first show and hopefully they will work all this out.

Coldplay World Tour 2016 - 2017 Discussion
It says,"XYLO ON or XYLO OFF" next to the songs. Im guessing those are for the Xylobands.

[2016-02-07] Coldplay headlining Super Bowl 2016 - Confirmed
I've watched it a couple times and have grown to like it a bit more. At first I wasn't too happy with it the overall performance. I was excited and nervous that Coldplay was performing though. I even had butterflies right before the show started. Ive seen them 8 times live and know what a great live band they are, so for them to finally get the chance to display this on such a grand stage I thought was well deserving. I personally think that they got picked for the wrong Super Bowl. I do think they put on a good show though. It's just that going into it Im sure they knew that since it was the 50th, that they were going to have to do some things that would appease the NFL, like doing a little montage of past performances and share the stage with Beyonce and Bruno. I also think it shows how unselfish Coldplay are, that even though they are the headliners, they were willing to share THEIR moment with those artist and pay tribute to performances from the past. If it were a different Super Bowl, I would have liked the performance to be at night for one, use the xylobands, and have them play 3 full songs. Coldplay's medley felt too rushed and I felt didn't transition too well. If you really didn't know the songs, you almost had to ask yourself, what song are they playing? They were just too short and I've never liked medleys anyways. I would have liked to at least see ASFOS played in place of Paradise. I thought Bruno and Beyonce were good too. But I think we all knew they were going to overshadow Coldplay or people were going to talk about them more than Coldplay. I read a comment earlier about how their outfits didn't fit. I agree to a point. And I'm not being superficial or anything but I think that the color palette and the theme or it all, with them wearing their black outfits, it just didn't fit the color palette and almost felt like they were doing their own thing. I thought they were suppose to be telling a story, but it felt like Bruno and Beyonce were trying to tell their own. I did like the Clocks/Fix You/Up&Up mash up though. It was a really great message and finale. Could have done without the montage but it was going to happen. I felt a sense of satisfaction that these artist were singing lyrics to a Up&Up, a song that Chris wrote. And Beyonce is kind of getting on my nerves a little bit. How do you promote your new world tour right after when you aren't even the headliner? It should have been a Coldplay commercial if anything, but then again they boys aren't like that. She also releases her new single a couple days before and then performs it and knows that people are going to go crazy about her afterwards. I just think she just comes off as being selfish about the whole thing. And then with the story in the RS article about her rejecting one of Chris songs, saying its awful! Get outta here! What nerve! But I do think Coldplay will still benefit from the sales and number from playing the Super Bowl. I do think from a promotional stand point why wouldn't you release a new single a month before and AHFOD right before the Super Bowl and announce the world tour after? I think that would have been the logical thing to do, that is of course they were really worried about numbers and getting to number 1. But maybe they aren't. Overall after a couple more watches of the show, I do think it was a solid show. And I am very proud of Coldplay. Ive been with them since the very beginning and to see them get where they are now, makes me immensely happy because I know they are happy. And no matter what anyone says about them(which I dont care) I will always voice my appreciation for Coldplay! Cant wait to see them live when they come back to Levi Stadium!

[2016 Feb] Chris Martin gets personal - Rolling Stone cover story
Great insightful interview. I always like to read Chris interviews from magazines, it seems like the reporters always spend a good amount of time with him to get genuine facts. On a side note: how cool would it be to have the job of interviewing Chris and hang out with him for a few days? I also find Chris very inspirational. The way he lives his life nowadays is something we can all try to emulate or at least try too. He even admits that some days he wakes up feeling down. But I think if we just look for things to be grateful for and happy about then things look a bit brighter. He has definitely grown a lot from his early days and I think everyone can see how much more confident he is today, also something that we can learn to do. It also shows just how much we dont know about him. About being really depressed and down after the end of the relationship with Gwen and how it effected him. I felt when they did do interviews for Ghost Stories, you could tell that Jonny, Guy, and Will were very protective of him and were there for him during that tough time. I also felt that you could hear it in the music, like they were marching along with him and there for him supporting him during the though time in his life. Guys bass playing on Ghost Stories gives me that sense, like, we're hear marching along with you friend. It definitely made them even closer. Loved the interview though! Seems like he gets around too without being noticed.

[2016-02-07] Coldplay headlining Super Bowl 2016 - Confirmed
After feeling a tad nervous about the performance and the whole scale of it all, I am now pretty excited for the performance and band. I think it started after seeing the latest bts pepsi video. I have full confidence in Coldplay that they will exceed expectations and then some! I truly believe a lot of casual and non coldplay fans will be blown away or surprised! Cant wait!

[2016-09-03] Levi’s Stadium, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
After having no success online most of the morning I used the phone app was much more successful. I was trying to get 4 tickets but switched to two tickets to see if that would make a difference. I ended up getting two tickets for Sec: FLD 3. After that I tried one more time to get 4 tickets and to my surprised I was successful in doing so. I got the same section but the 4 tickets together, which I was hoping for in the first place. Im going to sell the other two tickets to get my some money back. I can't wait! This will be my 8th time seeing the band and my first in a stadium environment! Super excited now!

[2016-02-07] Coldplay headlining Super Bowl 2016 - Confirmed
Is anyone a bit nervous for the band? I am a little to be honest. Just because I know how many millions of people tune in to watch the game and halftime show. They're saying the number of people viewing the halftime show this year will break last years record. Plus, given the fact how many people like to voice their dislike for the band. I usually get nervous for their live television performances anyways, but this is the Super Bowl. But while Im a little nervous, Im also very confident in the band at this point in their careers in pulling this off. I also know what a great live band they are and what great performers they are. I believe many people will be surprised by them. Im just wondering how the setlist is going to go and really how its all going to look like! I can't wait!
