Shiver Bass Tab

(This tab was made by Thom, don't steal this, or your soul is gunna burn in hell!)

Standart Tuning (G, D, A, E)

Pre-riff a.k.a. Intro a.k.a. the part where you only hear chris' acoustic guitar

------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------7------7-----7-7----7-9-------7-----7-7----7-7----7-9---7-6----

----------------------------------------------------------------------7-

Riff played for the first time (cos the bass line is different when jonny plays it for the second time)

----------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------

-7--6------------------------------6-6-6-6----

-------2-----2--4-5----5-5-5--4-------------7- X2

------------------------9-8-----

----6-7----7--7-7-7----------6--

-9------------------------------

--------------------------------

--------------------

--------------------

--------------------

--5---------7------0 <- first verse starts right here

"So i look in your direction, but you pay me no attention, do you?"

Right after this line, you play:

---------------------------------

---------------------------------

---------------------------------

-7-7--7-7-7---7-7---7-7-7--7-7--0

  • Author

when you play the E, chris will start singing again:

"I know you don't listen to me. Cause you say you see straight through me, don't you."

when he sings "don't you", you start playing:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------

-7-7--7-7-7---7-7---7-7-7--7-7----9-7-9--9---9-9-9---9-9--9-9-9--9--2

^This is what you play while chris sings

"Oooh On and on... From the moment I wake, To the moment I sleep."

And then:

-------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------

----------------1--1-2-4--9-----4---------4-4--4---4-4-4--4-2

-2-2-2---2-4-2---------------------2-2-2---------------------

^ "I'll be there by your side, Just you try and stop me.

I'll be waiting in line, Just to see if you care."

----------------------------

----------------------------

-2-2--2--2-2-2----2-2--2--2-

----------------------------

You play this after chris sings "if you care" and before he sings "did she want me to change"

Pre-chorus:

----------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------2-

----------------------------------------------------

-4--4-3----6-7--7-7-3---3-4----4-3---6-7--7-7-9-----

^ "Did she want me to change? Well I change for good.

And I want you to know, But you always get your way."

-----------------------------

-2---------------------------

-----------------------------

-----6----4-----------------0

Chorus will start right after you play the E.

Riff (Kinda different from the first time)

* this is the coolest bass EVER

You start playing when chris sings:

"Don't you Shi-(play here)-ver"

------------------------------------------

--2-1----2-1------------------------------

------2------2-------------------6-6-6---2

-----------------2-4-5----5-5-4-----------

---------------------------------

-2-1-----------------------------

-------------------------6-6-6---

-----2--2-4-5---5-5-4-----------7

------------------------9-8-----

----6-7----7--7-7-7----------6--

-9------------------------------

--------------------------------

After all this, you have verse 2, pre-chorus 2 and riff 3

verse 2 = verse 1, pre-chorus 2 = pre-chorus 1, and and riff 3 = riff 2

And then you have that lil piece which sounds kinda electronic. You know, it comes right before:

"And it's you I see, but you don't see me. And it's you I hear, so loud and clear."

well, on this "electronic part" you play:

----------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------11--9--13--7--7-2

--7---7-7---7---7-7---7-7--7--7---7-7---------------------

----------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------

-2-2----11--9--13--7--7-2---2-2---11--9--13--7--

------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------

And when the drums start, right before chris starts singing, you play:

-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9

--------------------

--------------------

--------------------

And on the verse:

"And it's you I see, but you don't see me.

And it's you I hear, so loud and clear.

I sing it loud and clear. And I'll always be waiting for you,"

You have to play what you played on guitar riffs 2 and 3

And then, on the last verse:

"So I look in your direction, But you pay me no attention,

And you know how much I need you, But you never even see me."

You play this easy line:

--------------------------------------

--------------------------------------

-------2-----------2-----------2------

-0-----------0----------0------------0

Phew... here it is, the shiver bass tab. It was really hard to tab it.

This is one of the coolest coldplay basses, and guy's job isn't easy on this one.

The tab got kinda screwed when i posted it, but if you copy and paste all this on a txt file, it should look ok again.

If it still isn't ok, don't worry, i'll upload this tab to a tab site, and i'll post the link for you guys.

Gaah, i'm tired now. Enjoy the tab! :D

Aaaw that's very nice of you Thom! Even though I don't play bass...hee hee.

But if I did, I'd come straaaaaight to yoou!! :D

:o :o :o OMG!!!!u RoX fake yorke!!!!!!!!! :P

Argh. i can't read tabs. I can read notes, but I don't understand tabs.

?!

i wish i could understand notes

you should start out with an easier tab than shiver

i cant even get that one down

but take this for example:

G-----------------------------

D-2---------------------------

A-----------------------------

E-----6----4-----------------0

all that means is that you play the 2nd fret on the D string (2nd from bottom)

then the 2nd note is the 6th fret on the E string (top one)

on the same string play the 4th fret

and the very last note at the end '0' means that you play it open (no frets just hit the string)

hope that helps (if you wanted to know how to read them that is!)

:D no problem eric. and hey, if you still can't play it... I have this guitar pro file here. It's great, i used it to figure out some parts of the bass line, like the chorus.

I'll see if i can go to msn later, and if i find you online there, i'll send you the guitar pro file. And don't worry, shiver's bass really is the devil.

alright sweet

i copied and pasted it all to a txt file but the pre chorus kinda came out wrong

where does that 2 go it doesnt look right in the tab?

  • Author

oh, you're right eric. my bad. the right way to play it would be like this: (again, you'll have to copy and paste on a txt):

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------2------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-4--4-3----6-7--7-7-3---3-4----4-3---6-7--7-7-9----------------6-------4---------0----

The tempo changes when you get to the 2. like... 2 seconds between each note. and you only play it once, not twice, like the first tab i posted.

well, it should sound ok now. Just tell me if you find more errors.
