Who the flip are Trista and Ryan....

...and why the feck are they EVERYWHERE??

I keep reading about Trista and Ryan and they're getting married or something...I dunno...I think it's something American

Ryan Adams has a gf, but I don't think they're going to marry, and I dunno her name.

the Idiocy that's 'reality TV', has spawned these new-fangled 'celebs'.

either Trista is the 'The Bachelorette' or the Ryan dude is the centerpiece of the show 'The Bachelor', and apparently one chose the other on the show by giving a fecking red rose (the ceremony is SOOOO unreal!) and now they're getting married.

The American tv network that carries the show (ABC) is gonna give the couple a wedding tagged at $1 million and another $1 million to the couple in cash.

So basically, all the papparazzi and low life and media are talking about this thing.

It's news served to the lowest common denominator.

It's also the reason by Ozzy Osborned breaking bones while monkeying around makes the nightly news.

It's the reason why 500 photographers and cameramen spent hours trying to get something from the recent Michael Jackson sorry-ass drama.

And it's the reason why in America, most people still think that Saddam *did* have "nukular" weapons! and that Saddam had connections with the 9/11 terrorists.

The media lulls you into following such stupid stories that you don't even think of actual news going on in the world....

Trista and Ryan were two people that were on the show, "The Bachelor" and "The Bacherlotte" they are getting married. THe show was stupid as hell, not worry about it.

And it is an American thing.

Oh  Thanks. I was annoyed at not knowing...and now I do, I wish I didn't. What rubbish!

funny thing is: i didn't even watch a single episode of that reality show, The Bachelor...or The Bachelorette.

And I am not even into the celeb gossip thingy.

And still I know a little about it....shows you that you can't even get away from it!! It's EVERYWHERE!

but nobody ever talks about AIDS in Africa

or any such news

yeah...i wish and hope that this thread doesn't turn into something too popular! it'd freak me out to see people in here going gaga over this thing! lmao

yeah, news coverage these days is almost entirely worthless. there's such a huge gap between things what we actually want to see and what we're shown. the fact that ozzy osbourne getting thrown off an ATV is bigger news than our military killing 6 children in afghanistan makes me sick, and it reflects poorly on american culture in general, even though i'm sure that, given the chance, just about every person in the country would gladly replace pointless coverage of michael jackson or kobe bryant or joe millionaire with something that actually qualifies as news.

meanwhile our government wants to deregulate media ownership laws even more, so that even fewer corporations will own ever more media outlets, and we'll have even less of an alternative to watching their bullshit than we do now.

anyway, i'm not sure if that has anything to do with this at all, but it frustrates me to no end.

Whoa!! I'm glad to see someone in here paying attention to this issue!! That's so cool!

Hey looks like you could benefit by watching news on PBS..."The News Hour with Jim Lehrer"...it's actual news, not celeb trash!

and Bill Moyers and others have done several shows on the media ownership issue already.

I too think it's bad that ClearChannel Communications owns 1600 radio stations. I've already noticed how the DJs and other radio folks aren't local anymore....they sit in some other city and one DJ's voice and program gets heard in 50 cities....

and it's up to ClearChannel if they want to promote some artist or not. And the artist better be willing to do extra shows or charge more bucks for their show... 'cuz ClearChannel also has its finger in artist-management companies...so if Coldplay for example don't want to play ball with ClearChannel, ClearChannel can pull the plug on Coldplay's music at all its radio stations....and since that's what drives the CD sales and popularity....Coldplay can end up being just another band....

it's too much power in too few hands

yeah, i don't even bother with commercial radio or television anymore (except for the simpsons), and i won't go to gigs at clear channel owned or sponsored venues (although i have to admit i made an exception for radiohead in august). that works out fine because most of the time there's nothing going on at those places (or on those radio stations) that i want to see or hear anyway, and here in philadelphia we actually have a great independent promotor who's willing to take on clear channel and is actually doing a great job of it, bringing in big name bands to play shows at better venues for less money.

as far as news, i actually do take in some pbs news every now and then if i get a chance, and i mostly gather things off of various websites when i'm sitting here doing nothing.

 yeah my primary source is web sites. And I NEVER EVER go to CNN web site anymore...it's been years since I went on CNN or other web sites. I just use direct wire services like AP, AFP, et al.

it's cool that Philly's got independent stations and promoters.

me being in texas...we don't get that luxury. The Alternative Rock radio station is owned by ClearChannel. So are stations that play Mix and Top 40. They also own the 24-hour news radio station on the AM dial. , as well as a few other popular talk-radio stations on AM.

I couldnt agree with you more. Whenever something strange like the Michael Jackon thing happens, or whenever the media blows up about things like Ozzy Osbourne being addicted to pills, It tells me that the media is in a slump and is trying to make money by making a big deal out of something... but meh... I really couldnt give a crap about this whole Trista and Ryan thing. They'll be divorced when the sex gets bad, and live off the money they split, pursuing their careers as... famous people... One thing that bothers me are people who make a living being famous because they're rich, like the freaking Hilton sisters. I've had enough of Reality shows. Why dont people focus on their own lives for a change? Now MTV is basically RealityTV, because they have *counts* fifteen reality shows, unless I forgot a few. Lemme check: Real World, Road Rules, RW/RR Challenge, Made, that new camp show with that really feminine guy, Tough Enough, Surfer Girls, Sorority Life, Fraternity Life, dismissed, tail daters, room raiders, Cribs, Diary, True Life... yep fifteen...

Some arent as bad as others, like True Life, which states the reality of certain things that people go through. Other than that, the rest are useless and shown way too much. The only thing I can think of that keeps MTV "Music Television" is the background music in these reality shows, which is always some Missy Elliot song. Ok, that was fun. I'm done :)

you don't have any universities or anything around? i guess that's just an alternative i'm used to having, since there are about a hundred colleges within 30 miles of here, and most of them have better radio stations than clear channel could offer. :P

there must be an NPR affiliate out there or something...

Ok, that was fun. I'm done

this is the first thread that i'm seeing people contributing in paragraphs! rather than one-liners!

liked your observation about the reality shows on MTV.

RealityTV?? I don't think so!

SURREALITY TV? yep...that's the actual description!

thats what I was going to say, but it slipped my mind when I started thinking of all the reality shows... The thing with those reality shows is that they're not even real! There's always some (high) percentage of fabrication and some form of guidelines that they give the "characters," telling them to act a certain way or telling them what to do. What would be the purpose of writers if the show was entirely real? It'd be like saying that "All My Children" was a documentary... Hah, if you think that these posts are long, you should have seen the religion thread from back in May...

ah....religion.

young people had things to talk about on religion? i would've thought that crowd in here wouldn't care as much about religion, know what i mean?

but it's cool. it takes an effort to read and to write that long...but it's more interesting nonetheless

I always tell people "never be afraid to write a novel" because I enjoy reading long entries/emails...

Most everyone believed in different things, but we all were respectful of eachother's beliefs. Its hard to have a thread on religion and NOT see any debates... but its possible, here at Coldplaying.com!

Yeah, I thought the wedding was corny. It seemed more like a football game with the way they had that anouncer guy and the interview people geeze. It was such a waste of 2 hours!
