Princess of China Acoustic chords

Featured Replies

So, come here to ask the chords of the Grammys show :D

I guess the chords is the basically the same i say on the book but transcribred to capo on 5, no? I meand Am, C, Dm, G ... goes to Em, G, Am, D...

When i played it today i use

Verse

Em (0,2,2,0,0,0)

G (3,2,0,0,3(0),0)

Am (x,0,0,2,2,1,0)

D (3,0,0,2,3,0)

and chorus

G

C (0,3,2,0,1,0)

You stole my star.... is Am, D, Em, G...

They dont play the You really hurt me but i use Am, D, Em, Em* (3,2,2,0,0,0)

And i say again that i dont look to the chris chords i just transpose the chords i use to play to capo on 5... and it sounds good with this, more acoustic feeling! :D

So if someone know what he played tell me cause i'm too lazy to figure out! lol

Thank you so much for this! I was looking all day for a good tab!:D

Thanks but i dont know if this is the way chris play it... :D

And sorry for the english, is a litlle bad...

I'd say he plays Em, G, Am, Am and then Em, G, Am, Am for the first two verses.

Then the bridge or whatever where he adds some sounds, I don't have all of them but for the Em it's on the 4th and 2th fret of the B-string. (try it out, you will hear what I mean)

He then plays some variations of the chords, I couldn't figure them out yet.

(all capo related)

This part seems pretty hard to play. I was thinking of a different tuning (tried it out in an Open Em), it works and is easier to play but definetely not the way Chris plays it.

Edit: After hearing it a second time with much better quality, I'm pretty sure that;

He plays these chords like this during the chorus,you-stole-my-star-part and the part between the two verses:

G 3,5,5,4,3,0

C 3,3,2,0,1,0

D 5,5,4,0,3,0

The variations he plays during the second verse are probably something like this:

Em 0,7,9,0,8,0

G 3,5,0,0,5,5

C 5,3,5,0,5,0 (though the two above are not the real ones Chris plays, this one is)

I made an account so I could contribute what I've found.

The way he played it at the Grammys last night was something like this,

Capo 7

First chord, F/Dm (1, 0, 0, 2, 3, 1)

Second chord I'm not as certain about. It appears that he moves his thumb off the fretboard for this chord, but it sounds to be and F (1, 0, 3, 2, 1, x). The way he has his hands positioned, it doesn't look as if he's playing the high F. I don't hear it, so I think he has it muted.

The third I'm not certain of either, but I believe it's a F/Bbsus2 (1, 1, 3, 3, 1, x). He frets both the F and the Bb with his thumb for this chord.

The chords when Rihanna come in are "the same", but they have different voicings. It looks like he goes up somewhere around the fourth fret, but I can't be certain. The fact that they hardly show the front of the guitar after Rihanna comes in makes it much more difficult to discern. Hopefully I can get back to you all on the rest, if someone doesn't before me.

Actually, that first chord appears to be incorrect, at least the second time he plays it. His index finger definitely isn't on the first fret like I thought. My guess now is F/Dm (1, 0, 0, 2, 3, x). I dunno, the chords are easy enough, but the voicings is where it gets complicated.

First of all: Welcome aboard the coldplaying-family! :)

If you watch [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPjR-sg1Fl0]this video[/ame] with 720p, you will see that the capo is on the 5th fret, as dm120 mentioned earlier. I'm also sure his chords aren't wrong, but I'm sure they're not complete.

Well, I feel like an idiot. No wonder I was so confused. I looked at his hand and looked an awful lot like the D minor shape. And the fact that he appeared to be fretting with his thumb... I just built everything off of that. And I couldn't really see the frets on the video I watched. Anyway, I think finding the chords that he uses for Rihanna's section might be quite a bit easier to figure out now.

Heylo guys! The chords are right (although there are some variations) but i'm pretty sure this isn't in standard tuning. Doesn't sound like it to me. Try EADGBD with capo on 5 and leave the first string (D string) open when playing the G and D chords. I'll post a cover by the end of this week :D

Assuming sheryar is correct about the tuning (and I believe he is), the second chord in the "Stole my star" section appears to be a A/Dadd11 (5, 5, 4, 0, 3, 0)

Also, it's hard to tell from the video, but my guess for Rihanna's section right now is Em7add11 (0, 5, 7, 0, 6, 0), Em11 (0, 5, 7, 0, 7, 0), and E/Cadd9 (0, 3, 5, 0, 5, 0). The last chord could also be E/Cmaj9 (0, 3, 5, 4, 5, 0). I think he just lifts his pinky off to let the B sound for a couple of seconds though. I can't really watch the video right now, but I should be on the right track with these. Someone can mess around with it and see what they think.

Yes, sheryar is right about the tunning.... it sounds good...

But Swiffy22, you're right about the (5,5,4,0,3,0) but the other chords doesn't sound good to me i dont know...

but we are closer :D

and with this tunning we can mess with the e String on the Em to make the riff sound... we can hammer on 2 fret ... (0,2,2,0,0,2) it sounds good i guess

I agree, the EADGBD tuning sounds better to me, too. Thanks sheryar90!

Swiffy22: I think he plays the C-chord like this: C 5,3,5,0,5,0 (I have no idea what this chord is called, but it sounds right to me and it also looks right to me)

At least, I got the complete thing until the Rihanna part including the interludes between the chords. (I think it's pretty hard to play but it sounds good to me)

Drop d?

Hello all, so is the tunning to this song a drop d on the 6th string or the bass string? Also what i really want to know is the part after Chris finish singing he does this thing witch sounds like the melody of the intro part or "oh" on his guitar.

i found out what the notes are (on stander tunning Capo 5) EA, G,A,G, CE, D,E,D A, D,E,G, FA, but i couldnt figuer out a bass note that could go with it......

With standart tuning and without capo, I play like this

Verse

Am7___x02013

C5_____x32013

Dsus4___x00213

Dsus4___x00213

chorus

C5____x32013

C5____x32013

Fadd9__xx3213

Fadd9__xx3213

Bridge

Dsus4_xx0233,

G_____320033,

Am7___x02213,

C5_____X32013

dsus4___xx0233

Fadd9___xx3210

For the Verse:

I dont know but I just swapped the first Dsus4 with x03213 and played the next one :uhoh:

It sounds right to me then just playing straight Dsus4 but this sounds promising :nice:

In case anyone wasn't sure, it's DEFINITELY EADGBd / capo 5th. I'm working on a comprehensive tab for this song though....SOON.

Princess of China Acoustic with capo 5th

With tuning EADGBD and capo 5th
